Here's an idea that I was unaware of (which is quite possibly more a self-criticism than any judgment of its visibility)... but nonetheless would be an interesting way of introducing state-funding of political parties in the UK.
I've never seen this (actual) process suggested in the UK, but again that may be my own myopia.
There has been some state funding in the #uk and has been since the 1970s when #shortmoney was introduced. This is provided to support policy research by opposition parties and is proportional to seats won in the previous election - so currently the #conservatives and the #liberaldemocrats are the main recipients.

am absolutely outraged that other
people let it happen to me.

This is how it feels to be a white conservative woman.

I actually love this metaphor because it's a fake target and you've put it there yourself.

Ignoring for the moment how often "Law & Order" #Republicans use copyrighted material without permission...
I'd like to point out the choice of song titles someone in this Administration chose to send a message.
Every time I hear of something like this, I'm reminded of how #Conservatives haughtily declared "The adults are back in charge" after Bill Clinton left office.
It has been a non-stop cavalcade of incompetent teenage fratboys led by pampered man-child Commanders-in-Chief.
The other nasty breakup inside MAGA: Brandon Straka and Scott Presler were best of friends and found stardom in the movement. Now, one is accusing the other of grift and betrayal.

As President Donald Trump’s front man, Musk’s fire first and ask questions later approach to purging the federal workforce has created havoc, jeopardized critical government functions, upended the lives of federal employees, likely incurred large financial liabilities for violating the law, and has been riddled with outright blunders. In short, [Double underlined] DOGE is anything but a department of efficiency. [End double underlined]
At the Department of Agriculture, for example, employees working to respond to the H5NI avian flu outbreak were mistakenly fired, forcing the department to rescind the termination letters. The same thing happened at the National Nuclear Security Administration, the organization responsible for overseeing the U.S. nuclear arsenal, where more than 300 employees were abruptly fired and then called back to work.

Withdrawing ourselves from close ties with the USA will take time, because we are so dependent, our leaders will "play" for a while that the USA is "our ally", they have no choice, but know better.
