@eniko My 9 yr old asked i send these.
They said, "Can you give this to the creators? Tell them I'm JJ. No, tell her I'm Jarek. I didn't trace these. I traced the hands tho, I don't really know how to do hands yet. It took me like the total hours and minutes was like one hour and 59 minutes or 58. I have a timer on my wallpaper which helps me know how much time i have drawed. And I hope you have a great day."
A drawing of Kiri, an orange kitsune. She's wearing an orange and brown kimono with white flowers, with her arms behind her head in a casual pose and a sly look at an offscreen object. She's got a pipe in her mouth
According to my Steam review thingie, my most played game this year on Steam was #KitsuneTails!
@eniko Thanks for making such a fun game! #indiegames#steam
screen shot of my steam review, showing Kitsune Tails as my most played game with 22% of my playtime and 27 sessions played
@eniko I've played a decent number of games on Steam this year, but I'm fairly certain #KitsuneTails is 100% responsible for Precision Platformer being in my spider graph.
One time I saw a review of Kitsune Tails where the reviewer talked about how much better than Mario bosses the bosses are, and acknowledged that its hard to make truly excellent bosses in a game where the player must be able to beat every boss even if completely powered down. It's not something most people think about and I think we did a decent job designing interesting boss encounters given those limitations
@eniko Frequently heard tonight:
"oh my god I am so bad at this 😂🤣😂🤣"
"fuck you bitch you stole my shoes!!! nooo my shoes!!"
"aaaaahhhhh aaaaahhhhhh aaaaahh nooooooooooooo"
"oh not ice! I can't even stop on normal blocks!"
"I am so bad at this 😂😂🤣😂"
(I am so glad for the casual gameplay style of forgiving retries)
"oh don't say you're getting her flowers oh no cue the exit... yep... I knew it - she's a crusher!" #kitsunetails
I'm a fan so far. Both the gameplay and the story are fun and the pacing is great. It's not an easy combo to pull off, but Kitsune Tails feels very solid. Excited to play more.
so anyway if you've ever felt like my personal account was a bit much (can't blame you lmao) but you still wanna keep up with my games, now there's
@kitsunegames
Did you know I created the little dust clouds that kick up when you run at ki-speed in Kitsune Tails? I animated a single dust particle as a sprite, then gave it multiple overlapping animations that start on different frames. When the particles get created it picks a random animation so it looks like the dust particles behave randomly when it's just one animation
I've had this idea for a 4-koma for #KitsuneTails since release
Panel 1: Yuzu looking like 🤔 at a tengu in the distance
Panel 2: Yuzu runs towards tengu
Panel 3: Yuzu whaps the tengu with her tail
Panel 4: Yuzu with a 😭 expression being chased past Kiri by angry tengu, Kiri with the angry anime expression shouting at Yuzu "Why did you think that would work!?"
conversion to running Kitsune Tails on top of stock FNA (https://fna-xna.github.io/) is going well. can get in game and everything's mostly working, with minor bugs like broken palette swapping and music loop points
swapping Kitsune Tails' engine from the current framework (SDL2 + OpenGL with FNA for audio and some input) to stock FNA will ensure the longevity of the game and keep it playable for years to come
this is because of FNA's policy of strict XNA backwards compatibility and their emphasis on single assembly portability, which means users should be able to upgrade the underlying SDL2/FNA framework simply by replacing DLLs or SO files with newer versions
Anyone else feel like whenever something breaks the only recourse is to buy the newer, much shittier version of that same thing, because nobody makes anything to the quality standard of the old broken one anymore?
What's your favorite "out of place" enemy in a video game? I find it endlessly amusing that in #KitsuneTails the basic water enemy is literally just a Koi fish
I suppose Birds in literally every NES platformer almost count but it's so common they're now expected...and birds ARE jerks tbh
I just realised that since #KitsuneTails actually has a Linux version, I could try to make a TAS of it…
the idea of TASing this game is ridiculous to me, since there's so much absolutely ridiculous stuff you could do with routing powerups and stuff
I've seen a lot of games that would be fun to make TASes of but they all are Windows-only games or stuff that requires Steam to run and it makes me sad :(
