I did not realize Australian culture and Danish culture was so different. This article describes a decades long swim wear war in Australia with all kinds of initiatives to make Australians hide their bodies with more clothes in the summer.
Meanwhile in Denmark we can literally lay stark naked on the beach and no one even raises an eyebrow.
I can be angry about rising fascism and also angry about facial recognition built into surveillance glasses at the same time, not only because these things are directly related, but because I contain fucking multitudes and all them are mad all the goddamn time.
Scott Shambaugh here. None of the quotes you attribute to me in the second half of the article are accurate, and do not exist at the source you link. It appears that they themselves are AI hallucinations. The irony here is fantastic.
I never thought — in ANY country — I would ever see a minister of justice or attorney general say, "Yes, those underage girls were trafficked and raped, but have you seen the stock market?"
I cannot wait to see the day they close the cell door behind Pam Bondi.

This is the guy Trump named as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Great going, America.
A social media post from FactPost quoting RFK Jr. saying, “I’m not scared of a germ. I used to snort cocaine off of toilet seats.” The image shows him seated in a podcast studio with a microphone, an American flag backdrop, and shelves behind him.
Meta thinks now is a great time to launch facial recognition surveillance tech in their creepy glasses because EFF will be too distracted by fascism to notice.
My company used to be a scrappy San Francisco tech startup but we were acquired by a large corporation so we had to switch from being Google people to Microsoft people and I'm in the process of creating a training deck in PowerPoint and I am seriously losing my mind with how Microsoft keeps messing up my formatting and how every little thing seems to take 5–10 times as many steps.
For example, I'll try to figure out how to do something that would have taken one click in Google slides and I'll figure it out, but it's like a seventeen step process in PowerPoint, so, when I’m done, I'll ask my husband who has been tortured by Microsoft for much longer if there's an easier way to do that thing and he'll inevitably be like "the way you did it IS the easy way to do it in PowerPoint/Word/whatever."
It's seriously like they clunked together some code and were like "well, it's at least kind of sort of better than a word processor?" and never bothered to improve anything.
I'm giving up on Google. None of the projects I've been working on (spout2pw, obs-pwvideo, libfunnel) are searchable, you get everything except for the actual project sites/repos. I put up a landing page and it briefly ranked and then disappeared.
DuckDuckGo has no issues. I'm switching.
How badly do you have to screw up search to not be able to search for an open source project and get, you know, the actual home page, repository, or documentation for that project at least somewhere in the first page of results? This is not hard...
There are idiots with dangerous machines in charge.
Screenshot of a post by The Tennessee Holler quoting Chris Hayes saying the alleged cartel drone threat in El Paso turned out to be party balloons, with Border Patrol agents using a borrowed experimental space laser. Below is an MSNBC segment showing headlines about cartel drones and the chyron: “TRUMP ADMIN’S ‘CARTEL DRONE’ STORY FALLS APART.”
When my 18 year old was very little, if I ever dropped peas on the floor and said to her oh no I've pea'd on the floor, she would laugh hysterically at this extremely funny joke. However now she just calls me a twat. 👍
I subscribed to Peacock just to watch Olympics coverage, but good lord. The frequency of commercial breaks is downright disgusting. It wasn't this bad for the 2024 Summer Olympics, was it?
I posted this earlier today, but realized it was not a reasonable time for US folks. So here goes: The big #plushtodon is now on sale, 20% off. Only available in the US, shipping locally. There are 87 left and we will likely never make one of this size again. I have some cool new things planned and clearing them out would be a big help. Thanks!
Agreement on a new cross-channel energy connector has stalled as France & the UK cannot agree on costs; the UK wants equal budget sharing for the construction; France thinks the UK should take on the bulk of the cost.
The French position is as for most (but not all) the time the UK is importing electricity generated in France, the benefits are gained by the UK & so the UK should cover the majority of the costs.
I'll leave it for you to decide if that's unreasonable!
This whole "OpenClaw" thing has made me very angry and I wrote a bit about the why. It's not that "it's AI": It is the way that kind of project invalidates decades of work and care in free software. "AI" software isn't just careless, it is actively rejecting responsibility and care.
Ice-cold bouquet
Happy Valentines' day everyone!! Here's a little something for you, featuring my Final Fantasy 14 Warrior of Light Icy :3
This piece was a big struggle, but I learnt a lot painting it. I hope you like it! <3
Final Fantasy 14 Warrior of Light Icypole Baguette (paladin male elezen with silver hair) holds a bouquet of roses and lilies made of ice.
He looks down at the bouquet in his hands with a wistful, mysterious expression in his face, his eyelids partially closed, which could be mistaken for closed eyes when seen from afar.
The background is a dark blue abstract background. Fog emanates from the icy bouquet, and flakes of ice fly around in the wind.
