So, a little while back, I was looking for some Fedi front-end and somebody recommended to me #Phanpy, and I didn't like it. It felt too minimal for me. Well, I gave it another shot and I am really enjoying it this time around. Hell, it might become my default front-end from now on!
I'm also pleased to report that it works super well with our #GoToSocial instance. So far I haven't found anything that is broken or doesn't work properly.
I still wish it had some options here and there, some simple customization. Like, I don't like the fact that it presents content warning posts with blocked text instead of just letting me open the post and I can't seem to change that. The boost section I still need to get used to, I see the idea, but it just doesn't really click for me so far. And I wish I could change the accent colors.
Another thing that I would like is a pronoun detector. So far, #Moshidon has been the only front-end that I've seen that does that, and it's a full-fledged app, but it is really convenient that it can detect a pronouns field and just display them next to the username.
But otherwise, yeah, I really like it. It feels modern, it's clean, it's quite pretty, and it's really functional. So I think I found my new home for now. :neobun_heart:

Ebbene sì, ho chiuso l'account #Mastodon e mi sono spostato qui.
Ho importato i contatti che seguivo, avvisato i follower (tanti mi hanno seguito di qui, se manca ancora qualcuno mi affido al "caso" che ci farà reincontrare tra i meandri dei questo magico Universo tra boost, amici di amici e così via).
Ho riguardato i post del 2025 e ho ricreato quello che mi interessava ricreare, ho rimesso da parte qualcuno tra i miei segnalibri.
Tutto sommato non sono mai stato attaccato al passato, conservo qualcosa e lascio andare il resto. La scorsa estate ho chiuso Gmail senza salvare una ventina d'anni di email (qualche amicizia se l'è un po' presa quando l'ha saputo... ma per me, se ci sei nel presente, ci sei, che altro serve?).
Comunque sono molto soddisfatto del mio nuovo setup.
Sono riuscito a conservare al 90% le mie abitudini perché normalmente interagirò ancora tramite il mitico #Phanpy, che funziona alla grande anche con #Friendica anche se usa solo una parte delle sue API. Per i post veloci di tutti i giorni, le ricondivisioni e le interazioni è perfetto, snello, ben fatto, e molto, molto elegante.
E per postare immagini è comodissimo (inserire immagini e alt-text nei post da Friendica è parecchio laborioso).
Ho notato, dopo un po', che aveva qualche problema con il login da più dispositivi sulla stessa rete (quando mi loggavo su un nuovo device, l'altro si disconnetteva). Ho risolto utilizzando ben 5 istanze di Phanpy diverse, una per dispositivo! Potenza del software libero e della decentralizzazione! 😁😁😁
(Ho riprovato a usare #Raccoon, ma purtroppo ha ancora troppi problemi, quelli noti mesi fa non sono mai stati risolti e per me è inutilizzabile. Peccato, sarebbe un progetto con tante potenzialità, speriamo che lo sviluppo venga ripreso.)
Ho anche ritoccato un po' l'esperienza utente su Friendica, che userò direttamente se voglio scrivere post formattati, come questo (per esempio abilitando il markdown che mi semplifica un po' la sintassi). È stata un'occasione per studiare un po' meglio alcune delle caratteristiche di questa piattaforma così potente. Anche qui ci sarebbe bisogno di qualche intervento deciso! A partire da un editor di post un po' più moderno e funzionale.
Che dire, in ogni caso ora è tutto meno dispersivo e non avrò bisogno di ricordarmi dove avevo salvato un segnalibro o da che parte avevo un contatto.

That would allow me to sort my subscription feed & browse sorted feed, to see ONLY relevant posts (on topic updates follow-up's?).
Well, the mastodon feature of "LISTS" tries something similiar by allowing to make a sorted list of people\subscription, sorted by your custom category/topic. But it doesn't include #tags. Each #tag must be browsed separately, individually, manually, and there is no feature of list of tags in mastodon.
Lemmy, mbin, kbin, piefed and other #reddit#forum like #activitypub implementations allow you to have topics-threads, but each thread does not replicate very well across multiple servers/instances. Can't be easely crossposted ( by pinging multiple category-bots). And doesn't replicate & easily-searchable as classic mastodon #tags.
Other things I don't like:
twitter like reposts. they make you feel you subscribed not to the original "reposter" friend, but to "reposted content" that you never subscribed for. the #f2f p2p architecture of #scuttlebot (#scuttlebutt) kinda eliminates that, they don't have nor show reposts. you see there only original posts, original content, of friends you follow. Kinda helps to slow down the mind from informational overflow. You can opt out to see posts of friend's friends, if you want more. Tags are also supported there.
threads consist only of information aggretator url sharing in reddit like clones. Without having OP OC like in bbs|AgoraRoad , they just silo you to clickbait to other web sites.
@cheeaun I'm using Phanpy as my main fediverse app on my GrapheneOS phone (saved its shortcut to the Home screen) and I'm super impressed by all the advancements you added.

Trying out different front-ends for #Mastodon… as I'm finding the stock web client, whilst it does everything I want in a UI I'm happy to use, has a shockingly bad memory leak. If I leave it on the home feed for a day or so, by the end of the day the UI tab is consuming >5GB RAM and pushing everything out into swap.
That's bad on my laptop which has 8GB… it's even worse on the tablet with 4GB.
I gave #Elk a try on their hosted instance, looks promising, but when I try to build it on #NodeJS v22 to host it here, the post-install scripts try to feed the NodeJS binary a raw #TypeScript program, and of course it barfs not knowing how to interpret that. Had a look at the Dockerfile for it and the base container, no clues there… so that rules out Elk.
I'm giving #Phanpy a try now. Building it wasn't difficult, however I had to dig a bit down further in the README.md to realise I needed to set some environment variables before calling npm run build (notably PHANPY_WEBSITE="${ABSOLUTE_URL}", or else it won't run when you deploy it).
Not liking the fact that boosting or favouriting is a two-click (three-click for boosts actually) process, but that is my principle gripe for now. Other than that, things seem to be reasonably responsive, so we'll see how this goes. If I can get away from needing to keep top open sorting by resident memory usage and periodically killing the worst offender (which more often than not, is the Mastodon tab)… that's a plus.
Hey fedi, what are your favourite web UIs to interface with the #fediverse. Preferably ones that work with #GoToSocial, but if you don't know if it does, please share anyway.

Jeśli ktoś używa #Phanpy jako nakładki na Mastodona, to chciałem poinformować, że polskie tłumaczenie dopiero w następnej wersji tłumaczenia będzie lepsze i bardziej spójne.
Okazuje się, że zmiany w tłumaczeniach można sprawdzać na wersji deweloperskiej, gdzie są aktualizowane co jakiś czas. Dotąd myślałem, że muszę czekać na wydanie kolejnej wersji oficjalnej, żeby móc podejrzeć jak to wygląda.
W ciągu ostatnich kilku dni wprowadziłem trochę poprawek i uzupełniłem braki, więc zmiany zobaczycie jak tłumaczenie zostanie zaktualizowane.
Polskie tłumaczenie #Phanpy zostało zrobione w 100%, ale kilka rzeczy będzie tam wymagać jeszcze poprawek. Mam więc pytanie, bo wydaje mi się, że w tłumaczeniu GUI należałoby zachować spójność, ale w trakcie prób poprawiania naszły mnie wątpliwości:
ODPOWIADAMY czy KOMENTUJEMY? (piszemy ODPOWIEDŹ czy KOMENTARZ?)
Wchodzę sobie na #Crowdin, żeby potłumaczyć #Phanpy, a tu niespodzianka! W międzyczasie niejaki Misk dokończył pracę i mamy 100%!
To jeszcze nie koniec, bo pewnie sporo trzeba będzie poprawiać (plik źródłowy nie zawsze jest jasny i nie zawsze wiadomo czego dotyczy), ale poprawki to już będzie drobiazg w porównaniu z tym, co już zostało wykonane!

@phanpy hace que las barras superior e inferior se muestren con esos colores en Android 14, utilizándolo como aplicación progresiva (pwa) en Firefox, cuando hasta ahora,vdichas barras, respetaban el tema negro elegido. ¿Algún fallo en la interface, que hace que Android las muestre así,

He probado con otros teléfonos con Android 12 y Android 11 y ocurre lo mismo. 🤔
I mostly use #Phanpy, and keep #Tusky around for notifications and link sharing. I don't do a lot of searching, but do like to link to relevant posts, so I'll definitely check out #Pachli when I get home.

Although I will still keep using #Phanpy as my primary Fediverse client, I ... was about to say that Pachli will replace #Tusky, but it turns out that composing in Pachli is nearly impossible because the compose dialog is entirely underneath the keyboard and not visible, making it very difficult to compose posts and responses like this!

@_elena Also try #Statuzer. It has some advantages over #Phanpy, & some drawbacks, but on balance i've come to like it better. Both are superior to the vanilla Masto web UI IMO. Fwiw.

@aj I know you'll discover this for yourself, but anyway, just fwiw, one bonus of #Statuzer over #Phanpy & vanilla Masto is that it handles #RSS feeds, like #Friendica.
A co tam, zarzucę wędkę i zobaczymy czy coś się złowi z #fedipomoc
Poszukuję rozwiązania następującej kwestii - często wrzucam tu dłuższe wpisy odnośnie nowych zdobyczy np. z #TeamPudełka (czyli fizyczne wydania gier/muzyki/filmów), opatrzone zdjęciami opisywanego obiektu. Problem w tym, że jakkolwiek moja instancja #GoToSocial pozwala mi na wrzucenie większej ilości zdjęć, tak zarówno #Phanpy jak i #Moshidon już mają limit 4 szt. Nawet gdyby nie miały, to z tego co wiem większość klientów #Mastodon nie wyświetli więcej niż ww. limit.
Dlatego pojawił się pomysł żeby wrzucać takie wpisy na coś w formie bloga. #WriteFreely bardzo mi się podoba, głównie za prostotę, ale dodawanie zdjęć wymaga już klasycznego linkowania "z zewnętrz". Wordpress z drugiej strony to w moim przypadku przerost formy nad treścią. Wiem, że jest jeszcze #Pixelfed ale stawianie go tylko pod tym kątem - średnio mi się podoba.
Pytanie więc - jak żyć? I czy znajdzie się coś równie prostego i schludnego jak Writefreely, ale z możliwością łatwego "wyklikania" (tak, wiem że znienawidzone słowo przez niektórych) galerii we wpisie? A może da się to jednak ożenić z GoToSocial? Federacja nie jest nawet wymagana, bo nie mam problemu z linkowaniem na swoim głównym profilu 🤷🏻♂️ Oczywiście cały czas mowa o rozwiązaniach #selfhosted
Z pozytywnych rzeczy, coby nie tylko marudzić - jakiegoś dnia siadłem i zacząłem uzupełniać polskie tłumaczenie #Phanpy zrobiłem tego bardzo niewiele, ale najwyraźniej na tyle dużo, że coś ruszyło i po ostatniej aktualizacji można w końcu wybrać język polski w opcjach. Teraz jest tam totalny misz-masz polsko-angielski, z przewagą tego drugiego, ale jest to jakaś motywacja, żeby od czasu do czasu parę kolejnych haseł przetłumaczyć.
A że cholernie lubię tą nakładkę i używam jej, to tym bardziej będzie mnie wkurzać widok niedokończonej roboty ;-D
