I wish I had #fediverse (#mastodon#pleroma#akkoma#friendica#hubzilla#iceshrimp#snac#lemmy#mbin#kbin#piefed ) #client , I mean like #ELK#lmst#pl-fe #phanpy#tooty#sengi#pinafore#halcyon . That would allow me to sort my subscription feed & browse sorted feed, to see ONLY relevant posts (on topic updates follow-up's?).
Well, the mastodon feature of "LISTS" tries something similiar by allowing to make a sorted list of people\subscription, sorted by your custom category/topic. But it doesn't include #tags. Each #tag must be browsed separately, individually, manually, and there is no feature of list of tags in mastodon.
Lemmy, mbin, kbin, piefed and other #reddit#forum like #activitypub implementations allow you to have topics-threads, but each thread does not replicate very well across multiple servers/instances. Can't be easely crossposted ( by pinging multiple category-bots). And doesn't replicate & easily-searchable as classic mastodon #tags.
Other things I don't like:
twitter like reposts. they make you feel you subscribed not to the original "reposter" friend, but to "reposted content" that you never subscribed for. the #f2f p2p architecture of #scuttlebot (#scuttlebutt) kinda eliminates that, they don't have nor show reposts. you see there only original posts, original content, of friends you follow. Kinda helps to slow down the mind from informational overflow. You can opt out to see posts of friend's friends, if you want more. Tags are also supported there.
threads consist only of information aggretator url sharing in reddit like clones. Without having OP OC like in bbs|AgoraRoad , they just silo you to clickbait to other web sites.

From the Fediverse community feed on Lemmy.ml: submitted by n7gifmdn to fediverse5 points | 1 commentsI’m not sure who is pushing #GlobalSwitchDay probably won’t amount to anything, some of these platforms are certainly not ready a massive migration. The #RedditMigration was rough enough on Lemmy, it actually murdered #Kbin; #loops#PeerTube and #Friendica don’t have nearly enough well-maintained instances to support any sort

Great question! I never shared this story. I can only answer this from my own perspective and NOT on behalf of the entire project or other devs if you can imagine. And you're correct every open-source project can have this similar situation.
I try to make Mbin as decentralized as possible in terms of development, contributors and no single-maintainer. I hopefully advise that by putting time and effort in writing out the C4 specification: https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin/blob/main/C4.md. This means that every contributor can become a maintainer. So even today, I'm not the only maintainer and hopefully I will never be the only maintainer. And this goes as far as full access on the git repo(s) as well as Matrix chats.
Recently, a very dedicated contributor did left Mbin sadly without any announcement. This person is still being missed to this day (I hope he is doing well in RL). So bad things do happen, at the same time I hope we as a project will also attract new developers and contributors (even documentation, translation or picking up a simple UI change can already help a lot and often that is the best way to getting started).
I believe it's important to also take some time off. Like in the recent holiday period I forced myself to take some time off. Even then, I also do feel the pressure sometimes. At the same time; nobody is actually pressuring me. Crazy right?. Nobody is paying me to contribute to Mbin. And nobody expect me to spend time on it daily. So it's important to be aware of this situation and know it's mainly in your own head, sometimes just let it go... But you're right, you do feel a kind of obligation.
I also asked among the contributors if you should accept any form of money or NLnet funding or anything in that regard. Our common conclusion was: NO. Because we are doing it for fun, asking money will only create a situation were you might even feel more obligated.
Luckily the state of Mbin is also getting better and better over time. I'm really glad about that. In the past year we really focused on stability and scalability. Mbin also inherited a lot of issues from /kbin to be honest, and we really did some major overhauls to get the stability we and the server admins want and need (thank you all for this!). I can say that we are now in a good spot at the moment, Hopefully we also stay focused on the quality of the code, so the project will still be alive for years to come. Since nothing is worse then inheriting technical dept on top of a huge pile of issues, that is no fun.
Developing software for the fediverse is in general quite demanding work, no doubt about that. On top of the social media drama that often also happens. So the most important part of each open-source project is the community, the people, the interactions we have. The jokes we sometimes make. I can't thank the community enough and in the end we are all part of the fediverse community, so only we can make it fun and lead by example.
Can I post to a forum on kbin/Lemmy (a sub, "community", "magazine" or whatever name they have), and interact with other posts, using my Mastodon account?
I've tried opening a few kbin/lemmy threads in my Mastodon timeline, but only ever see the first post. (I've only just now started following a few communities, so my instance probably didn't "know" these older threads?)
sunzu
Amoxtli
breadsmasher Haha...you know it's bad when you don't even have the balls to refute any of my points and go straight to "you're a bad faith actor" 😂 You would think that there would be at least some left wing argument about how the minimum wage have affected employment in #Califronia, at least calling companies greedy or something, but nope! You're too lazy for even that.
Are #Lemmy and #Kbin leftists really this sorry? The discourse on here has been way worse than usual.
Just another update: I am aware that the server has been crashing, even after the upgrade (though, when it works, things are loading faster than they were before at least). ...
I'm not sure what happened to kbin[dot]social. It's been down now for what feels like a month.
Has anyone heard whether it's down permanently or what the status is of the main kbin instance? What happens now to the various kbin communities ("magazines") that are now stuck there?
This is pure cartel behavior: Reddit and Google have cut a deal that will freeze out all other search engines from indexing Reddit, where volunteers do essentially all the work.
This should not be legal.
It is VITAL to replace Reddit, and it will take a global village to do it. If we don't, the cartel wins.
And Google should be broken up by Congress, if the antitrust people won't try.
@dangillmor Argh! I stopped using reddit last year, logged out, and now only go there for some search results when I cannot find answers elsewhere.
I started using kbin but development slowed quite a bit, someone worked on an app but it stopped, I now use fedia.io but the "Threadiverse" has got a long way to go to replace the content on reddit.
I just finished the much needed server upgrade! So far, it seems to be running much faster, but let's see how it goes (if you notice any issues at all, please let me know). Just wanted to say thanks to those who stuck around. ...
Totally frustrated - Kbin is dying / dead and nothing's getting better. I was ready to pack it in on Reddit after the blackout and Kbin looked like a nice, non-weird home in the fediverse to go to. A year later, we're in a month-long breakdown with no end in sight. Imgur's cool, but I wanted the non-dystopian version of Reddit.
