Today is my wife’s birthday.
It has been a very difficult period for her.
Some people know part of it. Others know another part.
Only she and I know the whole story.

It was a beautiful stroll through the park, watching the wildlife there when this situation came to be. Unplanned, just by pure luck.

so yes even though I'm Italian, all my Apple devices are set to English as the default language. So I speak English to it and it does a good job adding reminders (most of the time... unless I'm using people's names that is)

Is there a "professional" Mastodon client for high end users? I'm mostly looking for a tool that helps me sort notifications. When you get a few popular posts it's very hard to track everything.

What I like about the fediverse is that there could be a completely separate tool just for notifications

I use Ivory, but it doesn’t really help much 🥲

@scottjenson the Mastodon web UI and Ivory now make it easier to parse through all the notifications. Like, I love how Mastodon now has a tab for DMs ("Private Mentions") so that helps a bit.

What would be a total game changer IMHO would be to have a segmentation in notifications... replies from everyone PLUS replies from people you follow (so I'd give priority to them). But I understand that it would add complexity...

No one seems to make the connection to 90s heroin chic skinny also being back in style.

Smoking is self medicating for hungry people.

(No, I do not have an equivalent theory about the huge wide leg pants. They're just cool.)

@maj last year I met with a friend who was in town with her daughter who's at university in the UK.

I was shocked to learn that very few of her peers drink... so binge drinking is basically non-existent... but almost all of them smoke or vape. What in the world?!?

I made sure to tell my child that smoking is bad for you... so even at 4 years of age, she'd be encouraging parents of her peers to "stop smoking" - I'm so proud and I hope things stay on this course in 12-15 years

There is a Mastodon instance that publishes content from its own PeerTube instance. These contents are narrated aloud, likely by an AI, in several languages, and are based on articles that appear online. Today this happened with an article I shared from my blog.

The problem is that there is no attribution to the original author and or the original source site. On the contrary, it gives the impression that the content was produced directly by whoever runs that site or instance.

This is completely detached from the idea of properly sharing information. Taking inspiration is a wonderful thing. Claiming someone else’s work as your own is not.

I contacted the account in question this morning. I have not received any reply, even though other content has been published in the meantime. A short while ago I also contacted the instance administrator.

I will wait until tomorrow morning. If I do not receive a satisfactory response, I will publicly disclose the instance and the related content and block the entire domain. There are additional details that I prefer not to reveal at this time which further worsen the situation.

This is not how we act in the Fediverse.

In the Fediverse we respect one another.
Let us avoid bringing improper practices here. You are free to use my posts as you wish. You can even make money by applying my advice.
Just do not take away my attribution.

I would also be curious to see if they’re posting that content on YouTube. The reporting there could be helpful in dissuading them…

Apparently my Fedi promo video is giving error messages on YouTube (shocker).

So I just logged on YouTube Studio for the first time in months to see what's going on... and found some interesting comments.

I'm not caffeinated enough to deliver zingers but I hope my response was adequate.

On the upside, I also saw a few comments of people who set up new accounts here, so yay.

As for the unplayable problem: no clue. But this is why I LOVE and on my website I'm using the PeerTube embed

A comment by a user that says: "Elena, congratulations on exposing yourself as the villain(cause) of all this. I genuinely hope big tech buys the Fediverse. I love how how everyone, here and big tech are going to lose." My response below: "Joke's on you because the entire point of the Fediverse is that it's made up of thousand of independent servers... it's basically billionaire-proof, nobody can buy it. Sure a billionaire could technically set up their own server but it would take seconds for people to defederate from it. That's what I love about the Fediverse: by the people, for the people, you're in control"

@donamasta some people reported it may be a problem with ad blockers. Even I cannot play it in my browser Vivaldi 🤷‍♀️ now, it would have never been my choice to run ads on it... and I'm so curious what they may be. Of course I'm not touching a penny

I'm also on Vivaldi (with strict "no ads, no trackers" settings) and I use NextDNS.

With NextDNS turned off I still I couldn't play the video, so I thought it might have been something to do with my Vivaldi settings...

…all the work I've been doing to consolidate a single downloaded music library filesystem I can access from my desktop(s) and my phone alike has suddenly got me thinking maybe I need to do that…

…for all of my iCloud photos & videos. And I am suddenly filled with dread as that means downloading/organizing 49,175 photos & 4,076 videos comprising nearly 800GB of data.

@jaredwhite Jared, a quick heads up that in my experience, when you download photos from iCloud, they lose their metadata... the create date is turned into the download date (if it makes sense). I hate it.

I have a ritual where I download the photos of the previous month, pass them through the software Photo Exifer (https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/photo-exifer/id1094567805?mt=12), restore the create date and then rename the files so that they start with YYYY-MM-DD
