Today has been a joyful day as we harvested some bananas from our local farmer's garden. This made us happy as some of the Empty stomachs were about to be filled.

My plants are helping me cope with the horrors of Israeli and american wars on Iran and disgusting hypocrisy of entire world watching and supporting it.

Going to have a lot of chili pepper plants soon, far more than I can handle or need.

I guess a lot of people will get pepper plants for present this summer.

It happened again! I had been using this unopened bag of soil to hold down one of my kids gymnastic bars in the backyard so totally forgot about it. A few months later and here’s another giant “weed” sprouting straight out of it. It’s so strong I can lift the whole bag without it tearing. Kinda proud of it, tbh

DO YOU COMPOST? There's an app for that!

A free and open source app to help pair up people who compost with people who have food waste. You can register as either option to help connect with neighbours, community gardens, or local businesses.

It was lovely weather this afternoon for my brief visit to the allotment. My way was blocked by a sord of mallards (yes, I had to go look it up again 🙂) who had taken occupancy of one of the footbridges. They really were reluctant to give up the spot! 😁

A wide-angle view approaching the final bridge across a pond which I have to cross before getting to my friend's plot. Three (or possibly four?) on the way (I'll be sure to count them next time I go) 🙂
The "sord of mallards" blocking my way. I was sorry to have to disturb them 🙂

Went to walk Mellie and dropped some compost in the bin by the park next door.

To my surprise, someone had cut up a gorgeous plant and dropped it in the compost bin.

Couldn't let it go to waste like that, so picked up a few and brought them home.

Put some in a pot with compost, Coco peat and vermiculite hoping they will root.

Don't know what to do with these remaining 2.

Maybe just shove them in one of the planters and see if it survives.

Today in , bought 8 bags of mulch and 2 bags of compost, watered and fertilized the garlic, planted the green onion stumps I was saving in the fridge, and walked the perimeter of the fence clearing sprouts of ivy, blackberry, and bamboo.

I’m really savoring these days when we can still have our brassicas. Kale and collards are some of my favorite foods. I’m already doing some planning for my summer garden, which is the toughest time to grow in my region. It’s really sad because it’s so hot and would be the perfect time to eat watery lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers but those things just become infested around here after May.

Several years ago a cherry plum (prunus cerasifera) made its home in a brushy area of our yard. I cut it free last year to give it room to grow into a tree, and being a very early species it's already pushing out a nice amount of flowers.

In spring 2023, I stepped outside just minutes after the lawn had been sprayed and saw a beautiful American robin pulling worms from the same grass.
In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. That afternoon, I canceled the lawn service. Since then — and for as long as I own this property-he will be safe in my yard.

Lower pitcher on Nepenthes robcantleyi x maxima BE-3428. This plant got a much-needed soil wash and repot and will hopefully take off shortly; it’s capable of producing some very large pitchers and is a known female.
