amazing local greenhouses in winter to roam dreaming my plant (and fountain) dreams
a phone consultation with an octogenarian, asking my opinion on tzimmes recipes they thought they'd make for dinner tonight. May we all be contemplating new (and past) culinary adventures when we're close to ninety ❤️
a large new head of cabbage to cut into and steal a fresh slice
Does anyone have a recommendation for a great “beefsteak” tomato variety? Let’s say I wanna grow one variety this year. I have some Purple Cherokee seeds, which really underperformed last year and I also have some Pineapple Tomato seeds which I did poorly for one reason or another.
A lucky day is a watercolor painting in landscape format painted by artist Karen Kaspar
The watercolor painting is built up of many layers of different bright fresh green tones and shows the abstracted detail of a wildflower meadow with many four-leaf clovers. On one of the clovers sits a red ladybird with black dots. Due to the strong complementary contrast between red and green, this little lucky ladybird is the focus of the picture and attracts attention. The four-leaf clovers and the ladybird are symbols of luck. I wish you that this picture brings a lot of luck and joy into your home.
First signs of spring is a watercolor painting in landscape format by artist Karen Kaspar. It shows white Snowdrop or Galanthus flowers in a spring garden. The background is abstracted in vibrant shades of green and blue.
This is your friendly reminder that if you live in the northern hemisphere it's an ideal time to wipe down your houseplants and give them a feed before that spring sunshine makes it's way through your windows.
With a humming feeder, you get hummingbirds. Then you get the nectar feeders who can't hover, so you add little white caps for their sugar water. Then you get the big nectar feeders whose balance on the twine spills all the sugar water, so your friend adds a brace for the feeder. Then the lizards notice you've provided them a bridge to the feeder.
When the tanager hordes arrive and you spend the entire weekend protecting the humming feeder and the hummingbirds and the sucriers and the orioles and the lizards from them - using a hose - that's when you realise you're in way too deep.
Rainbow sunflower is a watercolor painting in vertical format painted by artist Karen Kaspar. A happy yellow and orange sunflower is growing on a colorful background in vibrant shades of pink, purple and blue.
Pink Rose Close-up is a watercolor painting in portrait format painted by the artist Karen Kaspar. The painting shows the inside of a rose blossom in bright shades of pink and rose. The painting is monochrome in pink and pink shades, interrupted by the white of the paper background. The centre of the blossom is curling up like a spiral. The result is almost an abstract image of a spiral.
Planted a bunch of snow crocus on the north side of the house. But snow crocus only actually open their flowers when the sun shines on them and this part of the garden won't get direct sun for another month. Oops.
Yellow Tulips Triptych left is the left part of my three-part triptych. This consists of three acrylic paintings in portrait format, each with a beautiful tulip blossom painted in bright yellow and orange tones. They shine against an abstract background that suggests a spring garden in fresh green tones. The three parts of the triptych are available both individually in my shop and combined as a complete triptych in horizontal panoramic format.

I have a question for my #gardening friends - I'm using Seedtime.us .. because I'm terrible at planning / dates. Currently, it's had me plant my onion seeds inside for planting .. these are going great in my grow tent!
However .. in a couple weeks it's telling me to direct seed some of the lettuce varieties I've got. I'm in zone 6a .. and we've still got a lot of potentially cold days ahead of us ..
That seems .. odd?!! I'm a novice and learning .. is some lettuce just frost/cold resistant?
