GNOME Boxes proves virtualization on Linux doesn’t have to be complicated.
In this video, Learn Linux TV shows how to create Linux VMs, enable 3D acceleration for better performance, use snapshots, redirect USB devices, and more—all without licensing restrictions.

It is useless to build the perfect technological FOSS & private alternative if people aren't culturally and socially predisposed to use it. Think network externalities, peer pressure... but also the influence of capital on people, via marketing and brand associativity.
Don't get me wrong. I'm so very glad places like Mastodon exist. But they are just a foundation. The direct action needs its cultural counterparts. It's Gramscian:
War of Maneuver is the things you do as a direct affront to the system, physical or otherwise (like licensing your projects under the CNPL or GPL, enacting strict anti -trust legislation, incentivizing cooperatives and decommodification).
War of Position is how you reorient and predispose people towards more productive outcomes, especially culturally. This is what we LACK.
Get people on Stoat (former Revolt). Campaign for it if you must. Not because it's perfect, no, not at all. It's the onboarding. It's a temporary solution. It gives people breathing room from the failures of Discord and Telegram, and renews their sense of a better future being possible. The better ecosystem will bake in the oven, until we are ready to bring them over. Plant the seeds of a free Internet one step at a time.
This is the human side of the technological operation... like I said, the War of Position.

Building an independent Europe is a core issue for this Commission.
And independence starts with a strong economy.
That’s why we are using every tool we have to boost Europe’s competitiveness. Only a resilient, innovative, and dynamic European economy can truly guarantee our strategic autonomy.
A graphic on a bright blue background featuring the European Union's yellow stars in the top right and the European Commission logo in the bottom right. The central text reads "Powering Europe’s competitiveness: A foundation for our prosperity," followed by three yellow chevron arrows pointing right.
@EUCommission An independent economy can't run on software belonging to a corpo with misled priorities, from an unstable country which is an unreliable partner and an deficient democracy. 🫤 As long as #Europe is hanging on this hook, there's no real independence. And the money funneled into this liability would be spent so much better to just improve whatever is missing from #FOSS to make it a true, competitive and free alternative for all to benefit from.
The European Union surpassed the United States as the first source of pushes to public Git repositories on GitHub, and that doesn't count the alternatives like Gitlab and Codeberg where I assume there's an even larger fraction of European contributions.
A beautiful, non-destructive, and GPU-accelerated RAW image editor built with performance in mind.
RapidRAW is a modern, high-performance alternative to Adobe Lightroom®. It delivers a simple, beautiful editing experience in a lightweight package (under 20MB) for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Hi, I’m building VeloxOS — a focused Linux distribution based on Manjaro, currently experimenting with COSMIC as the desktop for the first preview (planned Spring 2026).
Performance-focused. Opinionated defaults. Built in public.
Happy to connect with other Linux builders and COSMIC enthusiasts.

The recordings of the matchmaking sessions for the
@EUCommission 's Open Internet Stack open calls are online. There were lots of interesting people giving brief presentations about their current work and plans for the call. The sessions were hosted by
@EC_NGI
If you are interested in applying to IOS but could not make it to the session, the recordings are a great way to find people to build a consortium with.

Apparently my Fedi promo video is giving error messages on YouTube (shocker).
So I just logged on YouTube Studio for the first time in months to see what's going on... and found some interesting comments.
I'm not caffeinated enough to deliver zingers but I hope my response was adequate.
On the upside, I also saw a few comments of people who set up new accounts here, so yay.
As for the unplayable problem: no clue. But this is why I LOVE #PeerTube and on my website I'm using the PeerTube embed
A comment by a user that says: "Elena, congratulations on exposing yourself as the villain(cause) of all this. I genuinely hope big tech buys the Fediverse. I love how how everyone, here and big tech are going to lose." My response below: "Joke's on you because the entire point of the Fediverse is that it's made up of thousand of independent servers... it's basically billionaire-proof, nobody can buy it. Sure a billionaire could technically set up their own server but it would take seconds for people to defederate from it. That's what I love about the Fediverse: by the people, for the people, you're in control"
@_elena#YouTube has become more and more problematic throwing error messages for all sorts of reasons. Most things i watch are there given the sheer amount and variety of content vs. Peertube.
I use #FreeTube and at times have to change #VPN connections in order to watch videos, at times some will only open in a browser.
It's definitely a hot mess. I wish #Peertube were a viable alternative for more than just #foss stuff but alas, it's not even close for most of what people watch/want.
Interesting, the post below is a call for help with creating a federated free open encrypted replacement for Discord!
In case you aren't aware,
@cwebber is one of the co-creators of ActivityPub which is the protocol that the Fediverse runs on.
@spritely is an organisation run by her that works on next generation federated projects.
They are "Open Weights." This means the company allows you to run the model, but you have no right to see how it was made or what data it was trained on.
We need to stop letting companies redefine "Open Source" to mean "available for download." Words have meanings.
If a company claims they are open source but plans to "someday" release the code, or hides the training data, they are a poser. This is "Open Washing." They are co-opting the term to earn the community's goodwill for marketing without actually respecting the four freedoms.
