A modal in general is not defined as a dark pattern (not sure why you say that).

And in this case a modal is used to manage a user journey "subtask", which is a request to confirm a potential disruptive action: users may use firerox AI features for long, before deciding to turn them off, deeply changing their experience with the product.

I agree that it could have been done as a full page, but it is fine also as a modal on desktop (not mobile viewport)

It would have been a dark pattern if, just as an example, the "block" button was set as secondary action (in white) and the primary blue action was "cancel".

PS, I don't like this AI move of FF, I actually uninstalled it after years and years because of that.

I've made mistakes in how I've interacted with our community, especially during the recent growth of Pixelfed and Loops.

While I'm proud of what we've built over 7 years, I recognize that my leadership style hasn't always fostered the collaborative spirit we need.

I'm making this public: I'll be better. This means more listening, more collaboration, and less ego.

The future of these projects depends on us working together. Thank you for helping me learn and grow.

We're stronger together ❤️

@dansup letting go is the hardest part, but you are and always will be the dad/leader, with all the respect that it brings. Your nice words say a lot about you, so no worries and embrace the future!

@dansup Hi Dansup, first of all, you are a ⭐ thanks for everything you do!
I have a quick question... I applied to pixelfed.art a couple of days ago, but no answer yet. Shall I wait more or resend the application? Please let me know if there is anything wrong. My username in the application was "skamu". Thanks!!

I've had a lot of people ask how BlueSky compares to Mastodon and the Fediverse. I've tried to make the answer as simple and easy to understand as possible:

🦋 BlueSky is designed to give corporations and wealthy people full control of the network. All of its traffic has to flow through expensive-to-run corporate relays.

:Fediverse: The Fediverse is designed to give ordinary people control of the network. All of its traffic flows directly from one cheap-to-run server to another.

@maple @FediTips ok, but having all the data stored in a single, owned, instance (like BlueSky) would potentially expose users to an unknown future... as it happened with the current "big tech". I rather prefer fix and improve what is not working in the fedivese, which is the real alternative. I wish a future were we always own data, regardless of the app/technology we use

@maple @FediTips Hi Maple, yeah I get your point and I agree that most of the users don't care, and it is really sad.

I am also an "ordinary user" anyway, I am just tired of directly supporting huge corporation with my personal data. I have opened my eyes and I do believe that the rest of "ordinary users" (like us) will do the same in a point.

It will probably take time, but I really believe that the "fediverse approach" will be the future.
