prides itself with all the measures it takes not only to host great privacy respecting apps but also having a great client that's under the user control. The whole software ecosystem is built to be , with multiple clients, repos and mirrors. This means we don't have visibility into how users chose to connect to our servers, be it directly, via a proxy, via Tor or some VPN.

adds up on top of these, and we'd like to know: How do you feel about IPFS in F-Droid Client?

I really need to look at the current state of alternate phone keyboards again. I gave Fossify another shot last month (since their whole thing is making apps that don't send anything to the cloud), but there's no swiping, and apparently my thumbs are too clumsy (even after all this time) to type on a phone screen without some kind of predictive text and/or hitboxes.

Any recommendations? (Boosts ok)

Does anyone have experience transferring Apps and Data from to a new device?

I have a Samsung, moving to a Pixel and it very predictably only transfers GooglePlay apps.

I've tried the Nearby Device option but it seems to work, then simply doesn't:(

fdroidorg ,
@fdroidorg@floss.social avatar

@lps As said there, you either use some tool to backup APKs (yet no app data) or better yet, use your Android backup workflow to backup both.

F-Droid Nearby is about sharing apps to your Internet-less friends.

/PS: Always choose apps that allow you to import/export your data, never apps that hold it prisoner.

Hello @fdroidorg ,
I'd like to "clean" the repositories I use with the F-Droid app but I can't identify which one I used to install an app, except if it is available on several repositories hence I see the pick list.
Is it possible from an app to know where it comes from? Is it possible to display the apps installed filtered on a specific repository?
Thanks :-)

Due to repeat issues about F-Droid builds failing, Stocks Widget has removed all F-Droid support. You may still obtain it via the Play Store and a debug version from GitHub. https://github.com/premnirmal/StockTicker

As of time of writing, the @fdroidorg deceives its users by flagging the app “This app’s source code is no longer available,” despite the fact the app was outdated on F-Droid for years, fully available on GitHub, and licensed under the GPL.

@trafotin Years? C'mon... We missed a couple of versions in the last 2 months(!!) because the version.properties file was not updated by the developer. It's marked NoSourceSince as the latest code no longer has a flavor version for us to actually build.

I don't trust syncthing-fork anymore.

  1. App ID changed with version 2.x, seemingly for no reason.

  2. catfriend1, the original maintainer has disappeared with no public announcement.

  3. Apparently the Play signing keys were transferred to a Github user with a 5 day old account.

  4. The old repo does redirect to this new user's repo.

It could be benign and another case of FOSS devs "moving on," quietly. But my paranoia prevails.

Google cancels plans to require Android application certification outside of the Play Store

Only a few months ago, Google announced it was going to require that all Android applications - even those installed outside of the Play Store - had to be verified. This led to a massive backlash, and it seems our protests and complaints have had effect:

Google is starting to retreat on its "developer government ID verification" plan, thank goodness.

But the devil will be in the detail, and Google's positioning that wanting to install software on your own device makes you a "power user" is concerning.

The notion that you need to be an "experienced user" to use @fdroidorg , for instance, is nonsense.

But still: keeping up the pressure appears to be working. A little.
