I found out why my vet's office is so backed up lately. The woman who ran the front desk, and hence made the clinic run, got sick and tired of being profiled and pulled over by federal agents on her work commute. She's a white citizen, married to someone with a Latinx last name. So it seems that ICE/CBP are using automatic license plate readers to identify cars with owners with foreign sounding names, and stopping them over and over. She quit her job and now stays at home. #ICEOut

[Repost] Clean YouTube links. When you get a link from YT, it includes an ID tracking back to YOU. It's a "query string" on the end of the URL like this:
...?si=[tracker_ID_here]

This ID allows YouTube (and their owner, Google, and their owner, Alphabet, and ALL of their associates) to track the people who click on the link, and the apps they used, back to you, building a network of none-of-their-business.

Good news: DELETE the "?si=..." part & the link works just fine without the tracking.

What the actual fuck? ICE has been holding three members of the Oglala Sioux tribe in detention since Friday. Tribal members are US citizens by statute.

Homeland Security is refusing to release any information on these tribal members, other than first names, until the tribe enters into an "immigration agreement" with ICE. Again, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

In 1970, 55 years ago today, the Oregon Department of Transportation blew up a whale carcass that had washed up on the beach in Florence. Or at least they tried to blow it up.

They managed to scatter stinking rotting whale flesh quite some distance. Resulting in terror or hilarity depending on where you were standing.

The local TV news coverage is the stuff of legends.

I'll beat this drum a little louder.

Chronically understaffed and overworked air traffic controllers learned at the end of last week what to expect in their paychecks this Thursday: nothing. They are not getting paid for the past month due to the govt shutdown.

On Sunday many air traffic controllers called in sick resulting in 8,700 delayed flights. On Monday an addl 3,370 flights were delayed with 118 flights in or out of the US cancelled.

That's gonna leave a mark.

Have you noticed how out of shape these masked ICE agents are? And that their pants and shoes are totally civilian casual? These are the folks who didn't qualify for military, police, or investigative work. These are the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, the lame Jan 6 mob, and their buddies.

No wonder they wear face masks: we aren't supposed to know who they really are.

In June I went out to the Hanford Site in #Washington---often called the most contaminated place in the Western Hemisphere. It’s also Umatilla, Yakama, Nez Perce and Wanapum ancestral lands.

This site was part of the secretive Manhattan Project during WWII and the Cold War. The world’s first industrial-scale nuclear reactor, called the B Reactor, still stands here. The B Reactor produced the plutonium that went in the bomb code named “Fat Man,” which the US dropped unnecessarily on Nagasaki.
