More often than not i get nauseous along the company research path and give up, buying nothing instead and making due with what I've got...

A bonus rule i use in my quest for ethical products: advertisements serve to teach me what products and companies must be avoided. I mentally blacklist all advertisements and derive great joy from the act. I dream of a world with enough people like me in it that the entire advertisement surveillance industry becomes unprofitable.... And perishes.

Don't panic. Information "pedigree" has always been important. Who says something changes everything about how we understand it.

This is more of the same. If its from AI, it will be deemed trash. If you cant tell, then it is AI.

Genuine human content has much more value in most creative cases, and will be advertised in verifiable ways. Anyone who doesn't believe this now will learn in time.

I've been fanboy of technology for decades. All those years of following and writing about it never changed that.

But while I could always appreciate, and often celebrate, the achievements of some of the people who created things, I was never a fan of their industry. Its growth and power came with a massive increase in arrogance and abuse.

If we don't get a handle on this, everything good about tech will be subsumed by the bad.

They are the modern railroad tycoons. And where are trains now? They were once the most exciting technology on earth, they are now a rusty commodity.

The fascination with tech and the rapid pace of innovation is becoming irrelevant and uninteresting. Many if not most are already bored with it and have moved on. Phones are being held longer, people are getting a decade from a laptop. And bit by bit their power will evaporate. AI is their last hail marry and that bubble's about over.

The amount of desktop customizations someone does is inversely correlated to 3 factors:

  1. How much free time someone has.
  2. How many ducks they give.
  3. How un-aligned a chosen distro is with ones tastes.

My advice: pick a distro where their defaults are to your taste. Mint for me is it. i think there are only about 4 settings i tweak before I'm delighted with a fresh Mint box. I wish some other distros would take notes.

    Please someone, put google execs in jail on bribery charges. Paying a settlement for a frivolous lawsuit is not adequate plausible deniability. We know what they are doing. Paying to play.

    Nice. I've been saying this for a few months now. Writing has been on the wall.

    There are a fair few niche functions llms can do to improve worker efficiency. Exactly like VR goggles and bitcoin.

    But to overlook everything LLMs are horrible at is to be either complicit in the scam, or an idiot.

    In one day, Russia has violated the airspace of Estonia with 3 Mig-31 fighter jets in the morning, AND sent two other fighter jets to violate the security zone around a Polish oil rig owned by Petrobaltic in the evening.

    I long for the day, when we have FINALLY had enough of Putin’s games, and take the Turkish approach of simply obliterating the offending aircraft.

    Full force is the only language the Russian dictator understands.

    Estonian Prime Minister: This morning, 3 Russian Mig-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace. NATO fighters responded and the Russian planes were forced to flee. Such violation is totally unacceptable. The Government of Estonia has decided to request NATO Article 4 consultations.

    @Daojoan A few months ago, right wing friend tried to tell me trickle down economics worked.

    I said "It only works in so far as a rich person pisses on your leg and tells you it's trickling. Problem with your parroted words is that the rich already own everything. Your house. Your car. Your kids education. Every credit card swipe pushes money up the pyramid. You lost when your mind accepted this lie, lick up that trickle now please like a good servant."

    That ended our conversation.
