We're doing more testing of 25.10 on our side, but pre-release tests by
@phoronix on Framework Desktop show some great performance gains:

Some of the last reasons to stay on Windows have been gaming related. Both the time from installation to in-game and gaming performance on Bazzite are now actually better than Windows on many games, and living room usability is more seamless too.

21-Way Intel Core / AMD Ryzen Linux Laptop Comparison On Ubuntu 25.04

As part of fresh re-testing of existing laptops on-hand given the recent release of Ubuntu 25.04 and then also recent Linux reviews of some interesting models like the Framework Laptop 13 with AMD Strix Point and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition, I have been running a lot of Linux laptop benchmarks the past few weeks. We’ve re-enabled the ability to modify US pre-orders! We will continue to honor the original pricing for pre-orders placed before the tariff-related price changes took effect on April 9th.

frameworkcomputer OP ,
@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org avatar

However, if you choose to modify your pre-order, your final price may increase depending on the new configuration. This is due to the updated pricing on modules manufactured in China, which face higher tariffs.

frameworkcomputer OP ,
@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org avatar

If you make any changes, be sure to review your updated configuration and pricing carefully before confirming.

We’re opening US pre-orders of Framework Laptop 12 on April 10th at 9am PT. DIY Edition starts at $549 and is available in five colorways: Black, Gray, Lavender, Bubblegum, and Sage. If you prefer not to assemble your laptop, we also have pre-built options in Black, starting at $799. We reserved manufacturing capacity to be able to ship US pre-orders alongside existing pre-order batches, which means first shipments are in June. You can check out the full specs on our website while you wait!

Update: Tariffs on imports from Taiwan to the US have returned to 10% for 90 days. With that, we’ve returned US pricing on items we manufacture in Taiwan back to their original pricing.

frameworkcomputer OP ,
@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org avatar

On these items, we are keeping elevated pricing for now to cover the tariff cost. We’ll continue to monitor this situation and update pricing if needed.

frameworkcomputer OP ,
@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org avatar

Note that our system configuration pricing combines a Taiwan-origin system (the laptop/desktop itself) and China-origin modules (Bezels, Expansion Cards, Framework Laptop 16 Input Modules), so US pricing reflects the elevated module costs due to tariffs.

frameworkcomputer OP ,
@frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org avatar

We’re also working through the launch plan for US pre-orders of Framework Laptop 12, and we’ll share updates on this soon. We’ve reserved manufacturing capacity to be able to ship US pre-orders alongside the existing pre-order batches.
