I really wish the organizers of the Hawai'i counter-demonstrations on Saturday would use the international branding of "No Tyrants!" instead of . If only because, one, we tend to hold our ali'i, our kings and queens, in high regard. And, two, the Hawaiian sovereignty movement, in some cases, desires a restoration of the monarchy that was illegally suppressed and dissolved. "No Kings" was the cry of the colonizers and that should be remembered. A king =/= a tyrant.

Star Trek The Next Generation scene. Ok, so we're on planet in a modern building with windows and walls indoor plants and whatnot there's rock face or boulders through the windows I mentioned previously in this sentence. There are two humans pictured and a lotta fashion stuff happening. One is closer up, one further in the background. In the background is a woman wearing a purple/red kind of shiney dress you'd wear for a nice dinner in the city or maybe to an art gallery to look the part. She seems paranoid & nervous. Up front is a blond male, very pale, with a shimmery shiney opal colored blouse top with an open chest, almost like a partially open bathrobe kind of deal. He's also wearing teal pants with pink trim and a fancy belt and loop around the waist. They both have hands on waist, in a power pose kind of stance. Guy up front looks like he's just come down a runway and stopped at the front to really show off what's going to be in style this year. Closed caption reads, "Some of those among us are suspicious."

@dangillmor Nah, they don't read Revelation either. That book ends by saying the doors to heaven remain open to whoever wants to come in (open borders) and a multi-partner wedding (the Church becomes the Bride of Christ). There's also the part where there is much rejoicing at the downfall of the regime that controls global commerce.

In July 1991, Trump’s Taj Mahal filed for bankruptcy. He could not keep up with debts on two other Atlantic City casinos.

Those two properties declared bankruptcy in 1992.

A 4th property, the Plaza Hotel in New York, declared bankruptcy in 1992.

Trump Hotels & Casinos Resorts filed for bankruptcy again in 2004.

Trump Entertainment Resorts also declared bankruptcy in 2009.

@copter_chief All those bankruptcies… THAT and his divorce from Ivana are the things that meant “Trump” until The Apprentice. As a child, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother (an old-school “yellow dog” Democrat) and when I was at the grocery store with her I’d see the tabloids in the checkout line. Next to Elvis sightings and Batboy were stories about Trump’s finances and his divorce and she would kinda laugh. “Well, Trump is bankrupt again!” He was a joke back then!

Repairing your existing stuff is much, much better for the environment than buying replacements.

    @georgetakei Just a friendly reminder that only a few weeks ago lots of us were celebrating a woman bishop from an LGBTQ-affirming church calling out Trump. We’re hardly a monolith. I’d much prefer that the money my congregation puts in the plate is going to feed the hungry and not going to be used to build bombs.

    Tax the oligarchs please. They have way more money than my people do.

    The term “DEI” is being used as a cover to tear apart much of the federal government. It’s not that this language didn’t exist before, but it’s being weaponized now. Suddenly the cold, impersonal-sounding acronym DEI has replaced “diversity initiatives,” “civil rights,” “equal rights,” “fairness,” and “anti-discrimination” in everyday conversation. I would suggest that one small thing we can do is return to using those actual words. This week's comic:

    @dansup I have to say that I just really paid attention to the logos for Loops and Peertube and I think they’re brilliant. I have no idea if you intended for Loops to reference/riff Peertube’s design language, but it’s very good either way (Peertube evoking federation through the “play” triangle pointing in multiple directions while also itself being a “play” triangle; almost the same sized triangle in the negative space with the looping graphics for Loops).
