After a long dry spell, we finally have some weather moving in. I read that in Jan we had just 18% of the usual rainfall total here. It seems to have rained (too much) pretty much everywhere but here.

I installed a couple more and I think this motor is too high for the tie bar, so I might excavate the foam underneath the motor and see if it works reliably if it's a foam-thickness lower.

I cut out the foam layer, no improvement. I’m starting to suspect the mechanism.

a few small simple jobs today as I'm having trouble finding much time at the moment. Job 1: fitting the tram with the 🧲 couplings I got for 🎄.

A blue grey and yellow liveried High Speed Train power car model is backed towards a blue and grey liveried BR Mark 3 coach on a white table. The magnetic couplings pull the two vehicles together with a click.

FourT4 OP ,
@FourT4@mastodonapp.uk avatar

Job 2: I use the full width of the baseboard, so I'm putting in a cardboard fence to if anything derails it stays on the baseboard and doesn't plunge to the floor. PVA and cardboard in single digit temperatures and a limited number of G clamps to hold it all in position means I'm doing one a day when I can. Only the danger spots get this treatment.

Corner of model railway layout with tracks curving 180 degrees touching all 3 edges of the baseboard. Only one edge currently has a cardboard wall installed, eventually all 3 will have it.

  1. a nice "free from" mince pie at Fort Nelson,

  2. someone was asking about 3D printing exhaust covers for the 1:120 scale HST so I said hi and sent them the model file, pay it forward,

  3. it was nice to go out somewhere. My hurty leg didn't mind the walking so will try some more tomorrow.

I used to open a new face book account each year, then delete it and the associated email address the next year. This year I've done so little other than look at some groups I like that I think my privacy is safe enough for another 12 months with that account.

Well that was nostalgic. Motorway closed, so back roads from Botley to Fort Nelson, my old commute route 25+ years ago. I remember listening to discussion of the Y2K bug on the news while driving these roads.

There's something so funny to me, that we tend to celebrate chefs, who have access to the best food in the world. I mean, if you're serving me A5 beef, truffles, French handmade cheese, and the finest organic veggies available, then you'd have to be a real fuck up to make this bad. And there's nothing wrong with enjoying a meal like this occasionally, but there's something so much more interesting, in people who were given very little and still made something delicious, that has stayed with us. Enslaved people making delicious healthy Potlicker out of discarded bones and greens, poor Cajun-Creole making a beans and rice into a masterpiece, Irish, making potatoes 100+ ways, because it's what they had. If you can make something delicious out of dollars store food, that is just more impressive to me.

FourT4 ,
@FourT4@mastodonapp.uk avatar

@RickiTarr people persevered with coffee until it was drinkable! Now that's worthy of a separate thanks-giving event.

The woman that makes the post box toppers in Mudeford has done her best work yet.

The new one is doing double duty as reasonably tasteful performative remembrance fetish object, but also sad commentary on the slow rate of repair of All Saints' Church since the 2022 fire, or morale boosting message to the community, depending on your perspective.
