Ok, this shouldn't needed to be said, but it does not matter what anyone is holding or doing when ICE or police kill them. It's still murder and it cannot be justified. Fascists have worked hard to get us to accept murders by authorities if the victim is BIPOC, disabled, poor, queer, or trans by shifting the conversation from murder is wrong to murder is justified if the person looks threatening or has a criminal record.

Please stop falling for that fascist tactic.

Hey ! We are in need of more moderators for disabled.social. Preferably two to three more. The work would involve a training, then periodically during the week reviewing moderation reports. Other duties would include working in Signal together to troubleshoot issues or to talk through a report if needed. Time commitment would be only a few hours a week.

Please contact myself and our team at our email: newmodcall at disabled.social (change at to @ and remove spaces).

Thank you!

Y'all, please contact your representatives if you live in America. It's a bipartisan effort to repeal Section 230 which will make it impossible for disabled.social to exist at all and rip away our freedom of speech. The identity-verification bills is mass surveillance on a horrifying scale, and it places our identity info in the hands of sketchy third-party platforms that have been known to leak data. All privacy would be ripped away.

When a disabled person explains how multiple obstacles can make doing any creative stuff difficult, the incorrect response is to ignore everything we shared to claim the only obstacle is ourselves.

Just stop it with this ableist nonsense. Willpower alone cannot force the world to do what you want, especially as other people exist in that world. Various societal systems can also cause obstacles that willpower alone can't magically disappear.

Maybe actually listen and learn something.

Please do not tell me that the Constitution is an "antifa manual."

The Constitution is literally a slavery manual. Stop.

Aaidanbird ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

@SallyStrange uggggh.

honestly at this point, I doubt some people even understand what 'antifa' is.

like do they realize antifa = antifascist? The constitution is not antifascist. it's the opposite of anti-fascist.

it's so bizarre to me how folks just throw around 'antifa' as if it's the new soda drink or something.

@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar Aaidanbird , to random

I think a crucial point in our fight against fascism is looking at the undercurrent of what makes up society currently.

Capitalism is a disabling process. It exploits our bodies in order to extract the most profit from our labor; however, over time the stress and exploitation grinds our bodies down until many of us fall into the "disabled class."

What is the disabled class?

A disposable class that capitalism deems unproductive and valueless. Far too many people accept this.

This "AI" stuff is getting absurd. A bookmark is just that. to mark ones place in the book. Easier and cheaper to just rip off a piece of envelope from the endless spam mail and use that to find my place in my book.

Concerning the harasser JimmyTruth:

  1. We can block the IP address of him to stop him from signing up here, but we cannot stop him from chosing any server and signing up there. Mods in other servers need to do that.
  2. We have a script running to suspend ASAP. This relies on assistance from other servers to update the shared spreadsheet.

Mastodon's coding doesn't have reliable antispam measures that fit this sceneraio. Other servers don't have better spam measures.

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

One way to stop would be to have fingerprinting (using metadata to identify people more accurately) and setting up blocks to stop new/old accts that fit that from following.

However, fingerprinting consists of data that can harm one's privacy. Mastodon isn't set up for that level of identification, in its core code. It may not solve this either.

Mastodon is decentralized. If other servers didn't have open sign ups, Jimmy wouldn't be able to do this so easily. Us mods only control our server.

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

I also want to be VERY CLEAR that he is also targeting us mods and admin in disabled.social in order to silence us.

I don't know why this guy has decided to do what he can to harm us, but I, for one, will not let him destroy one of the few safe havens left for disabled people.

We NEED others servers to help us find solutions to stop him targeting us. Those with more tech knowledge and ideas for combatting this -- we need you to assist us.

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

If tech gurus out there can create better solutions for this scenario, please share with us and our admin.

The problem: JimmyTruth/J/Jay/Ramon signs up for numerous random servers upload follows.csv on each from usernames stripped from disabled and MutualAid hashtags. Also targets disabled server admins with harmful direct messages.

Banning IP address only stop sign-ups on our server. We suspend Jimmy's other random server accts once we know of them.

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

Another problem is that this harasser targets hashtags, specifically disabled and mutual aid hastags, so doesn't seem to matter what server a user moves to -- as he finds us by hashtags. He seems to store usernames in his github so he can upload the follow.csv to each new acct.

We need Github to shut down his account. Why they haven't is baffling. Please keep reporting his Github.

This guy wants to kill our server. Us mods are doing all we can to stop this.

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

@JessTheUnstill We already do this.

We're looking for other ways beyond just getting reports and suspending. He's mass following and mass replying to target people for harassment. He signs up with multiple accounts on multiple servers. So as much as our members and ourselves report the accounts (where us mods suspend), that doesn't actually solve the issue.

We're looking at ways to make it so he can't access our members or spam follow.

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

@LovesTha @JessTheUnstill Honestly, if y'all cook up such a solution, that would be very helpful!

Aaidanbird OP ,
@Aaidanbird@disabled.social avatar

JimmyTruth, aka Jay, Jemina, aka Ramon, Yahya, etc. is now impersonating disabled people's accounts to further harass them. He tags them in his bio "parody of X." We are continuing to report and suspend as soon as we receive reports.

Problem: They sign up for numerous random servers, uploads follows.csv on each from usernames stripped from disabled.social and MutualAid tags.

We suspend as soon as we know. Working with other admins on auto suspending. Other ideas welcome.

Recent comic: Cutting out the Middleman

I suspect that some readers might interpret this cartoon as a call for Luddism, but mostly it's a reflection of thoughts I've been having lately about out-of-control data harvesting and a growing surveillance state.

@GrapheneOS Did you know that there is an AI copycat of your account?

It's @GrapheneOS

It's copying some of your posts, but others seem to be AI generated. I suspect someone set up the server to scrape people's account details to create an AI copycat account to draw people away from your own accounts to the AI copycat.

Just so you're aware.

Since America dropped testing of parasites, harmful bacteria, and viruses in dairy products and poultry, I will continue to not eat them.

I didn't eat them due to casein intolerance in milk, cheese, and related products. And I didn't eat much poultry because I can't handle touching them raw to cook them. I also don't have the health to cook most days.

So I'm accidentally vegan. lol Now I'm likely choosing it because it'll be dangerous to buy it in the US.

How is everyone feeling?

Is there any activism happening in the Disabled Sphere?

How can we better support one another?

What ways can we make protests more accessible?

These are questions I've been thinking about lately. It's why I'm working on the collective access zine. (It's almost finished!)

@JourneysInFilm disability@a.gup.pe icon Disability group disabilityjustice@a.gup.pe icon DisabilityJustice group @disabilityhistory Education group edutooters@a.gup.pe icon EduTooters group Yes, I've seen it. However, none of this is being implemented right now. I asked my question because access like that shown in Crip Camp is NOT being done. And I wanted to hear about people on the ground and what they're currently doing.

What are YOU doing to increase access?

Right now, where I live, I can't access protests. They're inaccessible. It's frustrating.

Also, to clarify, my post is to host a discussion among disabled people about how we can support one another. What activism we are working on. Ways we can make things more accessible.

Dropping resources is helpful yes, but I also don't want the point of the post lost either. Just didn't have enough characters to say all this in one post I guess.

I wanted to see more folks sharing what they're working on, ways to support, etc.

Okay, this is just stupid! One of the benefits of having a is that people can access your services at any time, day or night, right? Well, I just went to the website to try and get a benefit verification letter, which I need because I'm trying to reestablish a case. I clicked "Sign In" and was greeted by this message:

This service is not available at this time.
Please try again during our regular service hours (Eastern Time):

Day Service Hours
Monday-Friday 4:15 a.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Saturday 5:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Federal Holidays Same hours as the day the holiday occurs.

If you need immediate assistance:

  • You may call us Monday through Friday: 8:00AM - 7:00PM at: 1-800-772-1213
  • If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing, call our toll-free TTY number: 1-800-325-0778

This of the website limitation is especially frustrating for me because I have a and an unpredictable schedule. It feels like the website is designed without thinking about people like me who need flexibility.
Has anyone else out there had similar issues with government services or other websites?

Yes. It's really inaccessible in that regard, and honestly makes no sense. It's a website. Do they shut down all servers in the building or something to save on electricity??

Other government sites don't have operating hours. It feels like just another unnecessary barrier.

There's ways to fight for anti-trust and for privacy without siding with fascists. Thanks.
