#doorsday#thursdaydoors I didn't have time this morning, but I still wanted to include this beautiful door. It is stil thursday. I took the photo a few days ago in the fishing village of Isla Christina (Spain). A few years ago, I was photographing the fishing industry there. I saw that door back then, but it wasn't until Pixelfed that I became interested in doors and windows. I wanted to show the door today because it there is also a beautiful window besides the door. I'll post that photo tomorrow. #doors#spain#travel#photography#streetphotography#travel#fediverse
In the center of the photo is a bright red wooden door. Around the door is a wide tile pattern in yellow, green, purple, and blue. On the left and right are angels, but they are mostly beautiful curls that flow into each other. Small brown stones surround the tiles.
The castle, Walmer, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles Image shows Walmer Castle in Kent, England which was built by Henry VIII in 1539-1540 as an artillery fortress to counter the threat of invasion by France and Spain. (Source: Flickr Commons project, 2015) England Walmer
The image depicts a historic castle named Walmer Castle, located in Kent, England. The photograph appears to be from around the late 19th or early 20th century, based on its style and coloration which suggests it's an old postcard. It shows the fortress-like structure with multiple towers topped by conical roofs and a flag flying atop one of them. A series of archways are visible through what looks like a high hedge that encloses part of the castle grounds.
In front of this, there is a neatly manicured lawn extending towards a wooden picket fence which separates it from an area with more greenery and trees in the background. The sky above is partly cloudy but bright, indicating good weather at the time the photo was taken. There are also sheep grazing on what appears to be grassy ground behind this hedge.
The overall scene gives off a serene historical ambiance, typical of English country estates during that era.
Nearly half of Europeans would back banning X over EU law breaches.
A new YouGov survey across Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Poland shows 47% of Europeans would back banning social media platform X from the EU if it continues to breach EU rules.
The polling suggests growing frustration among voters around what they see as a lack of compliance with European regulations.
Yes, occasionally it does happen, I do take colour, digital photos! And another shock: January is a great time of year to explore the Cabo de Gata coast. Honest!
See my latest post, a photo essay: Cabo de Gata in January: Winter's Coastal Gem. Over ninety photos of the Cabo de Gata coast in winter – stunning scenery and serene beaches - this is your chance to escape dreary winter weather.
A scenic beach view featuring tall, slender trees and vibrant greenery in the foreground, with calm blue waters and a distant shoreline under a clear blue sky.
A black and white image of a beach scene featuring a wigwam-like structure made of sticks and dried leaves, positioned near the shoreline. The background shows gentle waves and a distant mountain under a clear sky.
The Prime Minister of #Spain 's clear explanation of why thriving societies should accommodate #immigrants.
'Challenges are not driven by migrants’ ethnicity, race, or language. but by the same forces that affect our own citizens: poverty, inequality, unregulated markets, barriers to education and health care.
We should focus our efforts on addressing those issues, because they are the real threats to our way of life'
Spain plans to ban social media for under-16s, with tougher age checks and penalties for platforms that boost illegal content via algorithms. 🇪🇸
The move, pitched as protecting kids from a “digital Wild West,” raises questions about enforcement, teen rights, and platform accountability across Europe ⚖️
In the old city, or Casco Viejo, bills addressing the #genocide are pasted on the facades between shop windows; "Boikota #Israel" (#BoycottIsrael) are widely sprayed on the walls of apartment blocks.
On the balconies of the colourful apartments overlooking the Nervion River, #Palestinian flags are draped from every second or third apartment.
Every flag that flutters in the wet breeze announces itself as proof of life.
The level of pro-#Palestine solidarity is unlike any other city I have visited in the western world over the course of the genocide.
So telegram sent a political propaganda message attacking Pedro Sanchez to every single Spanish user. Think of that... a non national actor building a political campaign with unparalleled reach. Every Spanish user...
I have to give it to Pavel Durov. He managed to show in under 200 words what I’ve been trying to argue for years: digital infrastructure is critical infrastructure and unprotected it amounts to a massive security vulnerability that endangers the state, its citizens and its democratic rule.
By hijacking Spain’s national communication with a parallel national communication system to push a call for political subversion against efforts to protect children and uphold the law, he showed what happens when critical infrastructure is not protected or is allowed to fall into the wrong hands.
This episode also explains why far-right networks across the West are panicking over threats to their propaganda channels. The stakes are clear: control over digital infrastructure shapes public discourse, legal integrity, and the safety of the most vulnerable. Indeed, Telegram, Twitter, Insta and Tiktok are the main instrument of the new emerging FachoInter.
‘We will protect them from the digital Wild West.’ Another country will ban social media for under-16s
Spain will ban social media for under-16s and require platforms to employ strict age verification tools, joining Australia, France and Denmark in moves to curb the influence of digital platforms on children.
