“The outrage against Francesca is engineered by politicians who for years now have done their utmost to arm and provide diplomatic cover to Israel's genocide”.

Former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis issued a message of solidarity with Francesca Albanese as she prepares to present her eighth report to the United Nations on the situation of Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Varoufakis said Albanese is facing a coordinated campaign of “demonization,” as certain NGOs and European governments are pushing for her resignation in order to deflect attention from Israel’s genocide, corporate profiteering from occupation, abuses against Palestinian detainees, and ongoing violations of international law.

He argued that efforts to silence Albanese would fail, stating that she will continue exposing Israeli crimes whether or not she remains in her UN role, and warned her critics that removing her could amplify her impact rather than diminish it.

With or without a ceasefire, Israel is still targeting Gaza’s journalists
Ibtisam Mahdi wrote about how with or without a ceasefire, Israel is still targeting ’s journalists: the killing of Muhammad Qishta, Abdel Raouf Sha’at, and Anas Ghneim on Jan. 21 shatters any illusion of “post-war” safety. But for Mahdi, who knew and regularly collaborated with Qishta and Sha’at, the honor of their work and the memory of their laughter cannot be erased.

About 200 artists and cultural workers in Canada signed a statement announcing their boycott of the Scotiabank Photography Award in protest against Scotiabank’s investments in the Israeli company Elbit Systems, which produces weapons used in the genocide against Palestinians.

The boycott campaign is organized by the group No Arms in the Arts (NAITA), which called on major cultural organizations and festivals, such as the Toronto Biennial of Art and the CONTACT Festival, to pressure the bank to divest from these investments.

The statement described the award’s website and the bank’s financial support as a means of whitewashing the reputation of funders who profit from the arms industry.

The boycott is part of an ongoing campaign that previously targeted the bank’s sponsorship of other awards and festivals, including the Giller Prize and Hot Docs Festival, after the bank reinvested in Elbit Systems in 2025.

🚨Hind Rajab’s mother, Wesam, delivered a powerful and heartbreaking speech on Saturday about her daughter, who was killed by the Israeli army:

Ladies & gentlemen,

I'll begin with no introductions.

On January 29, 2024, my daughter Hind Rajab was trapped inside a car, under direct fire.

Hind was a five-year-old child.

At that age, children don't think about politics, & don't know the meaning of war.

All they know is fear… & the hope that someone will come to save them.

Hind didn't die suddenly.

Hind waited.

She waited for help,

For her cries to have meaning.

She said:

"I'm scared…come get me."

This isn't a literary phrase.

This is the last thing a child said,

who knew she might not survive.

She said a sentence that tore my heart apart:

"Mom, they're lying. Stay with me!"

At that moment, I realized the betrayal.

An ambulance was sent to her. It didn't arrive. It was bombed.

This means one thing:

Saving a life wasn't allowed.

Today, 2 years later,

I'm not standing here to tell you a sad story.

I am here to speak about responsibility.

I will pose a weighty question:

What is the value of a human life when it is Palestinian?

Because what happened to my daughter Hind,

Had it happened anywhere else, would have shaken the world.

But it was in Gaza.

And that is why time was allowed to pass,

& the crime to be forgotten.

I ask you to imagine, even for a few seconds,

The magnitude of pain that mothers in Gaza carry when they lose their children.

Imagine the bitterness of the pain,

When you cannot save your child,

Or even reach them,

Or know what their final moments were like.

This pain lives with mothers

every day,

& with every breath.

What happened to Hind is not just a personal story.

It reveals how a child can be left to die, before the eyes of the world, without accountability.

You live in countries that believe in the rule of law,

that teach human rights,

& sign agreements to protect children.

But Hind was not protected.

Nor were the paramedics.

Nor was the truth protected.

I don't blame the people of the world,

but I do hold silence responsible.

The silence that makes the crime possible,

& makes its repetition easy.

Your presence here today

means that you have chosen not to be silent.

And that is important.

But what is more important, is what happens after this event.

Will Hind remain just a name at an event?

Or will she become a turning point?

I am not asking for the impossible.

I am asking for something very simple:

That the life of a Palestinian child be protected… as if it were your own child's life.

If the law cannot save a child, then it is a law that needs to be held accountable.

And if the world only acts when the victim resembles its own children, then the world needs a new conscience.

Hind is no longer here.

But her story is a trust.

And a trust is not preserved with words,

But with actions!

De-Healthification: Israel’s Engineered Collapse of Palestinian Life

’s healthcare destruction isn’t new. As this analysis by Al-Shabaka @alshabaka (The Palestinian Policy Network) shows, it’s the peak of a 58-year policy.

From calculated neglect (1967-86) to weaponization during the First Intifada, bureaucratic strangulation under Oslo, siege-induced collapse (2007-23), and now systematic annihilation - has transformed health from a protected right into a tool of colonial control.

Laith Malas calls this “de-healthification” - a policy designed to make Palestinian life unhealable, and ultimately, impossible. This has involved 1,400+ healthcare workers killed since Oct 2023, 700+ attacks on health facilities, leaving under 1,800 hospital beds for 2 million people.

Rafah land crossing, Gaza’s only gateway to the world, has been turned by the Israeli occupation into a tool for extorting Palestinians and a place where patients face life-threatening delays.

Before the genocide war, the crossing operated daily, allowing an average of 3,000 people to exit and the same number to enter each week, meaning around 500 people could pass daily. After the genocide, the Israeli occupation restricted the number to only 150.

This small number makes travel, especially for patients, extremely difficult and requires very long waiting times.

These Israeli policies aim to humiliate, insult, and pressure Palestinians. These restrictions turn the crossing from a travel gateway into a barrier of humiliation.

Breaking | According to Channel 14, the Rafah Crossing will reopen starting Sunday morning, but under strict Israeli controls that sharply limit Palestinian movement.

While the reopening is presented as allowing travel in both directions, the report makes clear that entry into the Gaza Strip will be capped on a daily basis, whereas exit will remain unrestricted, effectively regulating who is allowed back into Gaza.

According to the report, all movement will be conducted in coordination with Egypt, but only after prior Israeli security approval, and under the supervision of a European Union mission, reviving the same restrictive mechanism used in January 2025.

The report further states that only Palestinians who left Gaza during the war will be permitted to return from Egypt, solely after receiving advance Israeli security clearance, underscoring that the crossing’s reopening remains tightly controlled by Israel rather than freely accessible to Palestinians.
