Random musing of the day: What would it take to build and open source atomic clock?
Designing an atomic clock and making the design open is easy. Heck, there are plenty of schematics and drawings of commercial clocks online. But making it such that Joe and Jane Average could replicate it at home without any parts or devices that are hard to get or extremely expensive? That's a tough nut.
Any open hardware #meetup at #fosdem in February? Would be cool to see peoples devices and talk. Maybe even have the opportunity to poke at a Tangara, Reform Next prototype or maybe an Open Book.
"One fast growing aspect of the internet, that is generally unseen to the general public, is #telemedicine . This could be entirely remote diagnoses, communication between doctors, allowing for remote second opinions, enabling greater training opportunities for doctors in remote areas to join conferences discussing difficult cases."

I've been on fedi since the great twitter exodus 2022, however i have never made a proper #introduction, so here it is.
I am a programmer and tinkerer but I find interest in many things.

Currently I am working on making my own phone. :phone: I haven't really wrote much about it on here but i will be in the future! The plan to make a Nokia as if it was created today. (USB-C, 5G etc.) I have a picture of it attached. It is written in #cpp, however I am a real beginner, so please bear with me. Tips and tricks are greatly appreciated. The source code for it can be found here: https://codeberg.org/bvoigtlaender/open-phone
#webdev
I also like making websites. Currently I am making my own website over on https://bvoigtlaender.de there's lots in the making, so stay tuned for that! :computer: I plan on making it a fun place to check out and interact with.
I also like to post pictures i take under the #photography hashtag. (my profile currently consist of almost only that, i try to change that!) For that I use my Fuji XT-1 the built in iPhone 11 Camera or lately even my DSi
I also like #videogames. I used to make more, in fact I have started programming by making them in Game Maker :gm:. I am planning to get back to it but have not found the time lately. I like playing them as well of course. I currently play #yakuza#professorlayton.
I love my bike as well! Not sure if this is a topic i post about, but i still wanted to point that out! :smirking:
A "phone" consisting of a visible circuit board with buttons and a screen soldered onto. Wires are coming from the back some not soldered on to the phone. At the top is a antenna. The soldering job is exceptionally bad.
A pile of purple pcb's. These are ch32 breakout boards packaged into a right angle ruler that also doubles as a business card and were made in Issue 3 of SOURCE magazine using KiCad and Inkscape.
The cover of issue 3 of SOURCE magazine. The cover has a diagonal image across the centre with a stack of purple PCB's which are the output of one of the tutorials in the magazine. There is some green text describing the magazine content.
I just re-flashed my #MNT#PocketReform keyboard to match the Preonic layout that I've been using for years. My fingers are a little bit confused again, but hopefully less so than they were switching back and forth!
An MNT Pocket Reform (a surprisingly tiny laptop with a 5x12 ortholinear mechanical keyboard) sitting on a wooden table behind a Preonic ortholinear mechanical keyboard of the same physical configuration. The labels on the key caps are mostly equivalent. The Preonic has blue and cyan key caps in the Data General Dasher color scheme. There are fresh pink and white flowers in a glass of water behind the laptop.
Back in my day, we bought things once and actually owned them. Imagine that! You'd get a CD, a movie, a game, or a piece of software, it was a tangible item with a set price that was all yours. No strings attached.
Now? Everything's a fucking subscription. It's like renting your life, but somehow it ends up being way more expensive in the long run. Go figure.
This is why open source matters a lot. It still gives you freedom and whenever possible please support your favourite FLOSS app 👍
@nixCraft and the same is true for #OpenHardware too: once I own it, I truly own it and can repair it myself rather than being tied to a service centre that is a sort of organically regulated sneak-subscription ⛓️
As a bonus, people who make open hardware tend to care about the product, so I'm more likely to get one that's designed to be long-lasting than one that'll become obsolete as soon as the company can come up with a newer reshash of the same product to thrust onto people ⏳
