My consistent finding using #Kubuntu for 8 months: the official application installer doesn't work reliably enough to bother with it.
I'm not sure if the problems are FlatPak or Snap files, but I'm removing it from all shortcuts and convenient places. I'll just run it when alerted there are updates needing me to enter my password 3x to get then installed.
(Also: what is UP with that password crap? 3x or more?)
So... given that Win10 support is EOL, and I kinda want to avoid Win11... What's the take on Linux these days? I mostly use computer for C++ development: Visual Studio, Fork, Superluminal. What's the least amount of hassle? GPU is nvidia.
@aras Ubuntu is not a bad choice as a developer (It's what I've been using as .NET developer for over a decade now).
You'll have to give up Visual Studio and trade it in for #vscode. Or if you want a more Windows looking desktop, go with #mint or #kubuntu
Frankly, I think #archlinux is the most #userfriendly#Linux distribution I can think of. I just tried to figure out how to upgrade #kubuntu to the new 25.10 release, and it is not possible for me. And it includes lots of reading complex instructions and doing shell commands, and in the end nothing happened. Even the grapical commands it says to use does have any kind of meaningful response.
Just did my first #win10 to #kubuntu#linux replacement installation and configuration for someone other than myself... A very gratifying experience! The person (my mother-in-law) is very satisfied with the performance and ease of use of her new OS.💪🏻😎
Well this is cool! A migration tool for Windows refugees that installs Kubuntu and migrates all your files directly under Windows, and once it's done and a reboot later, you're in Linux! Neat
I have the pleasure to browse the web from a #linux OS for the first time. :)
I turned my old (2017) laptop to #kubuntu thanks to a post of #endof10
I struggled a bit with the BIOS setup to make it boot as it should but aside that it was really easy. Now, time to discover further this new environment.
Next step will be to be comfortable enough with it before I move my more recent computer out of Microsoft. One step at a time.
After three weeks of #cycling through #germany, the first thing to do on my PC at home is:
sudo dnf update -y && sudo flatpak update -y
...7.5 GiB of updates on #Fedora 42 and #KDE plasma 6.4 + Kernel 6.15.X
My brother whom I visited with my bike asked me about what he can do with his #windows11 incompatible notebook and I told him about #Linux and
@Endof10
Maybe I can onboard him to the KDE desktop, be it with #Kubuntu or Fedora KDE Edition 🤔
I thought it was high time i upgraded to #Kubuntu 24.04.
I even installed it onto a separate partition from scratch, rather than upgrading from my existing.
it was such a mess that I've been dual booting mostly into my 20.04 old system for the past week or two, because it was more usable. #ubuntu
also, I can't believe #python is such a mess in terms of backward compatibility. You have my sympathy.
