In one week, join our next Special SDO Session featuring the introduction of the Responsible Data Governance (RDG) Standard for Immersive and AI-Integrated Systems by XRSI.
RDG provides a practical, technology-agnostic framework for proactive data governance without prescribing specific data mapping platforms or technical implementations.
I've seen enough to confidently say of the Ruby Central issue:
What the fuck?
A FOSS foundation is meant to be a steward for an ecosystem and all the players in it. It's a vehicle used to convene, make decisions, and allocate resources. And they're only as effective as they are trusted.
It is absurd to unilaterally revoke access of maintainers & wrap it in supply chain security/open gov lingo, while those same maintainers already sought those improvements.
Good day all! I was out on vacation last week with my family, so that's why there weren't any episodes of Fireside Fedi!
This week though! WOW! I'm nervous and super excited! All times are Eastern, UTC-4.

#Trump gives #Harvard 30 days to contest end of international student enrollment
The Trump admin on Thursday backed away from plans to immediately revoke #HarvardUniversity's ability to enroll #InternationalStudents & would instead give it 30 days to contest those plans through a lengthier administrative process.
The #DHS sent Harvard a notice of intent on Wednesday to withdraw the school's certification under a federal program to enroll non-US students.
The #university's lawyers argued #DHS's action was part of an "unprecedented & retaliatory attack on #AcademicFreedom at #Harvard," which is pursuing a separate lawsuit challenging the admin's decision to terminate nearly $3B in federal #research#funding.

The Routledge Handbook of Arctic Governance ed. by Elena Conde & Corine Wood-Donnelly, 2025
A comprehensive exploration of the multifaceted issues surrounding governance in the Arctic region. Delving into the complex intersections of justice, sustainability, and security in Arctic politics.
Divided into seven sections: Perceptions, History, Security, Diplomacy, Governance, Law, and Challenges, this multidisciplinary volume unites scholars across the social sciences to offer a comprehensive exploration of Arctic governance. As a region profoundly impacted by climate change, the Arctic faces growing challenges, exacerbated by geopolitical shifts such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine and increased international polarization. These developments may undermine peaceful cooperation in the region, as non-Arctic states like China adopt alternative strategies for engagement through remote technologies and space surveillance.Building on the Horizon 2020 JUSTNORTH project, the book highlights the importance of influencing regulatory frameworks to ensure sustainable economic development and just societies in the Arctic. It shows how security concerns permeate all levels of governance - from national military strategies to community-level human security, where adaptation to climate change is crucial. This handbook serves as a vital resource for understanding how justice, security, and sustainability shape Arctic governance. It will be of interest to scholars and students of global governance, security studies, environmental studies, and geopolitics, offering insights into the region's pressing social, environmental, and geopolitical issues.
> It's about whether we build systems that distribute power or concentrate it. Big Tech's dominance wasn't inevitable, and it's not unbreakable. But it's reinforced by the choices we make every damn day. Because over and over again, we choose easy. We choose platforms with less friction.
