Zachęcamy do obserwacji naszego nowego kanału! https://tube.gryf-kujawy.pl/w/sL6BRHtyfXZdfZBAibxhTB
Od dziś została uruchomiona nasza własna instancja #PeerTube działająca pod adresem tube.gryf-kujawy.pl! Już wkrótce zaczną pojawiać się na niej pierwsze treści wideo! #fediverse
I've had a thought about the whole #Discord thing. One of the reasons why it has become so popular even as a “#forum” thing, despite being utterly unusable in that sense, is that is provided single sign-on. Once logged into Discord, you could trivially join any community with zero to no effort. Compare this with the sign-up process in any other context and it becomes pretty clear.
The only other place that offered a comparable experience was basically reddit, with its own sets of problems.
Ideally, #Fediverse platforms should be able to interoperate at a deeper level. I should be able to browse a #Lemmy#PeerTube or #PixelFed instance with my #Mastodon account, or vice versa.
My understanding is that (some of) the platforms ideated by Mike Macgirvin (#HubZilla and #streams in particular, not sure about #Friendica) have this kind of integration (as well as other nifty features such as nomadic identities). Can we expand support for this to all Fedi platforms, I wonder?
I moved to a new instance, here's my re- #introduction
Hello people. I'm Ari, although I'm better known by my nick APz or apzpins in the social media.
I'm an IT guy by day, dedicating my free time to keep #pinball alive. My hobby has turned from owning a single game at home to an #arcade full of them over the years. Originally a very active tournament player, but in the past years I've been leaning more and more to the restoration and maintenance of the games. I especially love early solid state pins.
I'm a very #DIY -spirited person, often having to come up with creative ways to fix something that's been long obsolete. I do a lot of #3dprinting, tabletop #cnc and #laser'ing, among other things.
In addition to pinball machines, I'm into mechanical and video arcade games, #retrocomputing, owning plenty of machines from Commodore, Atari, PCs and old servers.
I mostly post in English, but I'll reply in other languages where I can, I can do #Finnish and conversational #Spanish.
I love animals and I often post pictures of my whisker faces.
A selfie of me, a Finnish guy in 40s, wearing a black T-shirt that says "Hopeakuula". There's a large Elvira's House of Horrors pinball banner in the background.
Apparently my Fedi promo video is giving error messages on YouTube (shocker).
So I just logged on YouTube Studio for the first time in months to see what's going on... and found some interesting comments.
I'm not caffeinated enough to deliver zingers but I hope my response was adequate.
On the upside, I also saw a few comments of people who set up new accounts here, so yay.
As for the unplayable problem: no clue. But this is why I LOVE #PeerTube and on my website I'm using the PeerTube embed
A comment by a user that says: "Elena, congratulations on exposing yourself as the villain(cause) of all this. I genuinely hope big tech buys the Fediverse. I love how how everyone, here and big tech are going to lose." My response below: "Joke's on you because the entire point of the Fediverse is that it's made up of thousand of independent servers... it's basically billionaire-proof, nobody can buy it. Sure a billionaire could technically set up their own server but it would take seconds for people to defederate from it. That's what I love about the Fediverse: by the people, for the people, you're in control"
@_elena#YouTube has become more and more problematic throwing error messages for all sorts of reasons. Most things i watch are there given the sheer amount and variety of content vs. Peertube.
I use #FreeTube and at times have to change #VPN connections in order to watch videos, at times some will only open in a browser.
It's definitely a hot mess. I wish #Peertube were a viable alternative for more than just #foss stuff but alas, it's not even close for most of what people watch/want.
If I have a #youtube channel and want to open a #peertube channel that is slightly different, what would be the easiest way for my youtube subscribers that have no experience with the #fediverse to subscribe on the peertube channel?
The commenting/discussing part is very important to me, so I'd like to suggest them an instance or some easy way they'll be sure to have a peertube account without a big effort!
I thought it might be fun to share the current Terminal Tilt workload and the state of things for February 2026.
We recently crossed 1000 subscribers (currently at 1033) and 100,000 views since starting the channel in December. That is pretty amazing and it shows there is a thirst for honest #NoAI Linux based videos that explore all things technology (especially privacy).
The "Sovereign Authentication" Series Video 0 of the hardware security key series is already live (published Feb 9!). Today was a heavy production day, I recorded the voiceovers for 3 of the 4 remaining videos. I have one more VO to capture, and then the heavy lifting begins in Kdenlive.
Each video usually takes me between 2 and 8 hours to edit. I’ve already finished the thumbnails, so once that final recording is done (hopefully tomorrow, depending on life in general), I’m jumping straight into the timeline.
Once the security series wraps, I am looking at my 4-year-old Keychron Q1 V2. I have heavily modified it, lubed Gateron Ink v2 Blacks, custom padding, and keycaps. That video will serve as a primer for future keyboard reviews, followed immediately by a look at the Epomaker TH99 Pro currently sitting in the box next to my desk.
In the future, I am also working on:
A look at the Divoom Pixoo 64 (pixel art display) and the Fanttik E2 Ultra electric screwdriver.
A giant overview of ~50 Debian-based (non-Ubuntu) distros. I have had requests for "shiny" trend chasing distros like CachyOS, but I am resisting chasing the views.
I am researching Linux-friendly networking equipment for future reviews, probably going to look at a few switches.
I am also exploring the potential of doing live streaming. I have concerns about doing it on YouTube as their algorithm can penalize your long-form videos when you post VODs from past streams. I might just start streaming on Twitch, but that audience doesn't seem to fit what we are building. OwnCast would be ideal but I don't think my homelab is ideal for that setup. I could stream on PeerTube but I am also worried about filling up my allotted storage with VODs on my instance.
Some ideas I have had for a live streaming are things like maintenance of my Thinkpad by cleaning and reapplying thermal paste, or we could do "Sysadmin Sundays Mornings" where I update and maintain all of the systems I am responsible for, or even blindly exploring obscure and unique distros together. We could also just do some Linux Gaming. We will see, no promises.
I have a .md file overflowing with ideas, so there is plenty more to come. Thanks for following the journey!
I've got my own instance ( https,://nomenloony.live ) but when I try to add my account on Peertube's app I get this message.
Is this a configuration error? Can anyone help? I'm quite new to this so try not to lose me!
Me trying to add my Peertube instance on the app. This is the error I get. It says the URL does not work : type 'Null' is now a subtype of type Map<String, dynamic> in type cast.
I'm grateful to
@pj and
@kevin and
@Casey for The Forkiverse. It turns out that a couple years ago I dabbled with Mastadon as my sole social media presence but I couldn't figure it out.
And now The Forkiverse is my home for talking and reading about books and reading about science. Good stuff.
@wess my favorite thing about the Fediverse: genuine human connections.
I made so many friends here and I've been radicalized in the best possible way... Fediverse folks encouraged me to look into self-hosting and I've been running my own #GoToSocial#Pixelfed and #PeerTube instances 🤗
Tonight at 6pm 🇬🇧 time I play Zelda. There may (will) be latex... There will be unnecessary and pointless deaths (both mobs, and myself) and if I set my mind to it I might even finish off Thunderblight Ganon.
Maybe...
Watch via #peertube - no account needed, although accounts are free (no uploads permitted though, sorry) if you want to chat. I really am going all in on the #fediverse now - loving it here. You guys are ace!
Trying to commit to the #Fediverse is working. Followers are rising in numbers and I'm meeting some really lovely people here.
I've got a policy of don't engage with the trolls, just block them. My recent "plug" post went pretty viral (currently almost 1000 likes) and it brought a couple of them out - particularly those who think AI is the next best thing and tried to tell me it was lies and "post your prompt!"
Today I'll be spending more time on my streaming setup trying to integrate the chat from #Peertube into an overlay on my streams. Wish me luck!
Once that works, the #twitch overlay goes. I'll be focused on Peertube then. I know I can bring the chat overlay off as an html which is a start.
