Next to each result is a small block icon which adds the domain to the filter and not 1 link of this site will reappear in your results.
Each time the result of a website is clearly #ai generated I block the whole domain. Last week I searched an issue about CNC milling and 9 out of the 10 first results on duckduckgo had been ai crap that didn't answer any questions but just rephrased a question multiple times.
Probably sysifus work but I'm feeling pretty good about making sure I'm never kicking a second time on basically fake links of fake websites.
Try it! If search engine companies can't do a good job or don't want to, I'm happy I can do it myself and stop them being able to show shit to me.
Google "has all the important parts of the web, plus niche sites, abandoned blogs, sketchy copies of legitimate websites, copies of those copies, and AI-rephrased copies of the copied copies—basically everything. And the result of this Herculean digital inventory is a search experience that feels increasingly discombobulated," writes Ryan Whitwam for
@arstechnica as he delves into how unleashing Google's search index and algorithm could remake the web.
Have you heard that MS is closing Bing's API's soon? DuckDuckGone?
I think it good news. Finally, the hegemony of creeps is shrinking back down into the USA.
We will all have increasing moments of clear-eyes awakening and realize that we can do all that tech-stuff ourselves, without the obvious oligarchic doom-side.
Let the USA retreat. Let them go! One day, when the rest of us have a new world, we can invite their grandkids to join again.
My survey asked what your favorite search engine is.
51% said DuckDuckGo, 12% Startpage, 9% Ecosia and 4% Qwant. Only 6% said Google and 1% Bing. 17% said they preferred another search engine, with many mentioning Kagi and Mojeek.
This is quite different from what the market share out there is, which shows how unique you all are here in the Fediverse. You make your own choices and do not follow everyone else. Be proud.
One of my favorite Google mistakes is when I'm trying to convert metric to imperial, and I accidentally type "___ km to usd" by mistake. (It doesn't work.)
I made
@Mojeek my default search engine. It is refreshing to get results from other sites than the %&*# twenty sites which pay #google and #bing to always show up in the results

While #DuckDuckGo is down, I tried out a few other search engines. I did a search I made yesterday in each. #Bing gave me an interesting looking blog first, then some less-related info from high-trust sources, then an interesting paper, then a bunch of garbage. #Mojeek gave me nothing that looked interesting, just pages that used some of the words from my search. #Kagi gave me the less-related high-trust sources first, then the entire rest of the first page looked interesting.
I've tried in multiple browsers, both with and without plugins enabled, yet DuckDuckGo is still failing to provide search results (here, at least) just responding;
There was an error displaying the search results. Please try again.
It's been this way for several hours. Anyone else seeing the same? I'm in the UK.
