I just checked my latest Google Search Console report for Cybercultural. Couple of notable trends, that I think apply to other indie websites too:
Google has totally turned off Google Discover traffic for my site over the past 3 months. I never got big traffic from it, but at least my posts had a chance before. I suspect Google's algo has pivoted Discover traffic to larger sites, to keep them quiet.
Clicks per impression 0.50% (was 2.25% at peak). This is AI Overviews/Mode at play #SEO

Twórcy stron, na których zarabiają, nie mogą już tylko patrzeć na #SEO, ale też #AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) - ze względu na rosnące znaczenie #LLM i szukanie na zasadzie "zobaczę odpowiedź i nie kliknę", rady z tego tekstu warto sobie przyswoić.
There used to be this deal between Google (and other search engines) and the Web: You get to index our stuff, show ads next to them but you link our work. AI Overview and Perplexity and all these systems cancel that deal.
And maybe - for a while - search will also need to die a bit? Make the whole web uncrawlable. Refuse any bots. As an act of resistance to the tech sector as a whole.
@arstechnica There are a huge number of Search Engine Optimization companies that help small businesses improve their rankings with Google. These companies charge from $2500 to $3500 per month. I wonder if the Google AI Overviews have put them out of business? And, what are the smaller businesses supposed to do? #SEO

Online recherchieren, Suchmaschinen benutzen und erstmal automatisch auf das oberste Suchergebnis klicken. Diese Gewohnheit von vielen Nutzerinnen und Nutzern machen sich auch Kriminelle zunutze und platzieren ihre Inhalte inmitten seriöser Suchergebnisse. Das Phänomen heißt SEO-Poisoning und wer nicht aufpasst, landet z.B. in gefälschten Online-Shops oder auf präparierten Download-Seiten.
Ihr, wenn die Suchergebnisse mal wieder voller Fakes sind.

Auch wenn SEO-Poisoning-Angriffe oft gut getarnt sind, kann man sich schützen:
👉 Achtet auf die besuchte URL - enthält sie Tippfehler oder unerwartete Begriffe?
👉 Suchergebnisse, die mit "Anzeige" oder "Gesponsert" markiert sind, solltet ihr meiden, denn SEO-Poisoning tritt durchaus in diesem Bereich der Suchergebnisse auf
👉 Aktiviert Sicherheitserweiterungen eures Browsers, mit dem ihr online surft - Adblocker können vor allem helfen
