I saw it in the 90s too, but I think for years I conflated it with another future prison movie, Fortress with Christopher Lambert.

klu9 ,
@klu9@piefed.social avatar

Shit! I think I conflated with that one, too!

Gonna have to organize a triple bill to clear up the confusion.

Umarell ( en.wikipedia.org )

Who or what is KonstaKang? Exploring the site & a quick web search have proven fruitless.

Thanks for the info.

  • VPN would be an additional ongoing cost to consider.
  • Looking into Stremio & Projectivity Launcher now, hopefully they can be used on non-geolocked devices available here in MX.

Thanks for the info.

Can Google TV devices be flashed with something like LineageOS Android TV to remove the spyware nature (IIRC) of Google TV? And could those apps like Projectivity Launcher etc still work on that?

I think she just finds operating the Roku so much easier. No remote for the laptop ATM, but even with, there's the issue of how to operate/navigate.

If something like Kodi, the couple of times I've experimented with it, I've rage-quit it within the first few minutes 😂 as (what I thought were) simple actions proved incredibly frustrating. (IIRC my last Kodi experiment 2-3 years ago: just reflexively using the up & down arrows to adjust the video volume brought up some OSD that I could not for the life of me get rid of.)

Has Kodi's user-friendliness improved? Or is there a better alternative? (Laptop currently has Linux Mint 22.3 Xfce.)

I ask because it would eventually involve things like handing over Prime login details to the Prime app on that OS. Have there been any security issues with these KonstaKang OSes? (Or am I being paranoid?)

I see Amazon MX showing the Shield for MXN $4,300, which is maybe 2~3x what she's hoping to spend. And the Shield TV for $3,200. Still pretty pricey.

Mometu is yet another FAST provider. They have apps for smart TVs but I've only watched stuff in the browser (Zen Browser + uBlock Origin) so I've never seen an ad.

They have the 90 minute English dub of Mothra. (They also have other films like Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster and Godzilla Raids Again.)

Intelligence Agencies don’t operate like that. Mossad agents don’t go around distributing bags of money to thousands of protesters in 40 different cities.

Coincidentally last night I listened to Central Intelligence S01E07 (October2024), an audio drama about the early years of the CIA, where they did precisely that. And in Iran, to boot.

Kermit Roosevelt Jr. (don't laugh!) literally smuggled a big bag of cash into Tehran and distributed it to local mob bosses who paid people to protest and riot.

Altho I'm making a counterpoint to what you wrote, I agree with the gist of your post. (Fuck tankies!)

And even if intelligence agencies are throwing cash around, you can't pay people to destroy something they're happy with.

Just a reminder that Chariots of the Gods was rejected by publishers until one editor took on the job of extensively rewriting it.

And that editor was Wilhelm Utermann, formerly editor of... Völkischer Beobachter, the official newspaper of the Nazi Party. Managing to spread lies that people of colour never achieved anything ("it was aliens!") even decades after his beloved Führer blew his brains out in the bunker.

But it's free-libre, ain't gonna monetize you & ain't gonna enshittify.

Thanks for looking into this issue.

Re scheduled timezone, no, I didn't use that.

Also I just tried another event, and after publishing, the time & date were shown to me in UTC, not local. And when I went to edit to try to fix it, the event time fields then showed the time & date in UTC... but the time zone as mine 😂

I have to run now, so I deleted that event and will try again tomorrow when I have more time.

Do you have javascript disabled?

Not AFAIK. Using Zen Browser on Linux, with multiple extensions like uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger etc. I don't know if they affect any of the javascript.

Are there any errors in your JS console?

Would the "Browser Console" in Zen be the same as a JS console? If so, here is the output viewing the Piefed.social homepage. There appear to be several errors but I've no idea what they mean 😊

I did a test event post in Playground, and the time is displayed to me correctly this time (both on the post page itself and on the Piefed.social main page). Without yet disabling any browser extensions.

https://piefed.social/c/playground/p/1637085/playground-test-event

Shall I go ahead with trying with all extensions off, re-enabling one at a time? Or has a change been made that renders such testing unnecessary?

EDIT: Now I see that Piefed is showing the wrong time in on the Playground page: now it says "23.30 GMT-6".
EDIT 2: Also now on the main Piefed.social page, it has changed from 18.30 GMT-6 to 23.30 GMT-6.

klu9 OP ,
@klu9@piefed.social avatar

Disabling all extensions does not fix the issue. All pages still showing incorrect start & finish times.

klu9 OP ,
@klu9@piefed.social avatar

Hmmm, Zen has Privacy Badger (amongst others), which might resist fingerprinting. But the same time (23.30) shown even with all extensions disabled.

Pale Moon only has uBlock Origin, and even off, still shows 23.30.

Falkon only has a not-so-strong in-built ad block, and again, turning it off, still 23.30.
