#GamersNexus once again prove themselves as among the most important and professional of US journalists today, reporting on the connections of #Discord and its upcoming #ageVerification and #chatControl imposition to technofeudal oligarch #PeterThiel, private #panopticon maker and seller #Palantir, leading anti-#privacy UK politician and lesser oligarch Joanna Shields, child-corralling company k-ID, and even (indirectly, through Thiel) Jeffery #Epstein.
As always with GN videos since the Nvidia/Bloomberg incident, download and back up the video ahead of vexatious DMCA abuses, to ensure a Streisand effect if the oligarchs try to censor it.
Despite the supposed ‘ceasefire,’ Gaza is still being starved, bombed, and invaded by Israel in real time. The genocide in Palestine has not stopped and Canada is complicit. The bombs and shells raining down on Gazans are being made with Canadian technology and assembled with hundreds of Canadian parts.
On Monday, February 16th AT 5pm PT / 8pm ET, join me, Dr. Yipeng Ge and Shatha Mahmoud for a critical conversation on Canada’s complicity in Israel’s genocide, the rise of anti-Palestinian racism, and what we can do collectively to end the occupation and fight for liberation and return.
Poster for Solidarity Session #5: Ending Canada's Complicity in the Genocide in Palestine. With Avi Lewis, Dr. Yipeng Ge, and Shatha Mahmoud. Hosted by Emma Jackson. Monday, February 16th at 5pm PT / 6pm MT / 7pm CT / 8pm ET / 9pm AT / 9:30pm NT. RSVP at Act.LewisForLeader.ca/Pal-Solidarity-Session.
I would like to suggest that folks in #Canada who appreciate the #fediverse and #activitypub learn about and thank
@dansup, who invented, developed & maintained
@pixelfed for YEARS even while the user base was like in the few hundreds.
His dedication to the open web is so criminally underrated in our country, even though he has been on the global cutting edge of the #digitalsovereignty movement we're seeing in #cdnpoli for the better part of a decade.
So... the shooter was trans, and I am just fucking broken. hundreds of men go fucking apeshit all the time and it barely gets a mention and nobody says fuck all about male ideology (It's the goddamned patriarchy you fuckheads). But the shooter is trans? Well, them fucking transes are a problem. I guess it's because they ultimately view trans women as men... and they're just looking for a reason to lump us in with them.
I'm not looking forward to being hated even more. I'm so fucking tired.
The amount of hate being pushed out right now by alt-right and right-wing pundits and (ashamedly) officials is downright disgusting and reprehensible.
Regardless of your social caste, gender, or other identity, you are welcome on the fediverse and at mstdn.ca.
The absolute tragedy in Tumbler Ridge is incredibly heartbreaking, and we likely will never know the whole story.
Right now, we need to hold space for the victims, the community, and make sure that those in our lives who identify as transgender know that they are loved, and always will be.
I'm grateful for the support of these outstanding labour leaders, who have spent their lives in the struggle for workers’ rights and equality.
They know that the NDP must be a political home for all workers. That's why we’re putting forward plans for dignified work and a stronger care economy that ensures workers are paid fairly and treated with the respect they deserve.
They also understand the urgency of tackling the cost of living crisis, because nobody should ever have to choose between paying rent and putting food on the table.
I’m honoured to have earned the trust of these champions for workers’ rights. Together, we're building a party of the working class.
4 baseball cards against a sky background. The cards show labour leaders Marie Clarke Walker, Nan McFadgen, Nigel Barriffe and Derek Fudge endorsing Avi Lewis for NDP leader.
Sam Altman said Trump was Hitler in 2016. Then he gave $1M to Hitler's inauguration because OpenAI's $830B valuation depends on his deregulation.
Canada's Bill C-11 protects these companies from Canadian competition.
@pluralistic is right - repeal it, legalize jailbreaking, and go into business disenshittifying their garbage.
If anyone comes into my mentions with anything along the lines of “the shooter was trans, therefore”…
expect a public excoriation and immediate block.
This is not the place for your gd culture war.
We don't even know the full motivation yet, all we know is this was a deeply troubled young person who did not get what they needed to survive and be a productive member of society.
That is a failure on all of us. This event is our collective failure.
First we support the community and the people directly affected... then we figure out how we could have supported this family in a way that would have prevented this outcome.
Analysis: "Starmer’s ban on Palestine Action was done to protect the arms industry"
A Channel 4 doco on Palestine Action’s proscription as a terrorist organisation alleges the proscription was done at the behest of Elbit Systems.
The doco cites evidence - including a 2023 internal Home Office email stating: "Reassure Elbit Systems UK... that the government cares about the harm the group is causing the private sector".
Just a reminder to everyone who was too young to remember, Stephen Harper was a strong leader who almost got away with destroying our democracy.
He tried to take away voting rights. He tried to bribe a senator. He loaded the senate with people he knew would fail so that he could get Canadians onside with dismantling it. He didn’t like the power the senate held over the Prime Minister. He did everything he could to make us subservient to the US.
He was pretty good at achieving his goals but he overshot, broke his own fixed election promise and called an election thinking he would give the Liberals a hard run, but Canadians from coast to coast had enough and sent him packing.
He gave tax breaks to corps, believes in trickle down economics and hates science, especially climate science.
If you don’t like the current PM because he is too right wing, Stephen Miller Harper is right wing rocket fuel. I hope you do your own research. The Harper years damaged us and we still have not recovered.
Trump is fuelling a humanitarian crisis in Cuba, with an oil blockade that is leading to devastating power outages and rationing. This administration is determined to dominate the hemisphere with brute force and naked impunity.
Canada has a long history of good relations with Cuba. We have consistently voted at the UN to end the blockade of Cuba, and millions of Canadian tourists have visited the island.
We should immediately follow Mexico’s lead and condemn this act of economic warfare. And we should step up with humanitarian assistance to the Cuban people, as NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice calls for in this excellent parliamentary petition: https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-7082
Prime Minister Carney, silence is not an option when Trump attacks sovereign nations in the Americas. Canadians expect you to stand up for human rights, international law, and against the bullying of smaller nations by a rampaging superpower.
This applies every bit as much to Alberta and the Conservative party in Canada as it does to the current situation in the US. It deserves a careful read before Canada ends up in the same situation. #cdnpolihttps://www.the-reframe.com/hating-the-game/
1/ Laura Mae Lindo and Zanana Akande are trailblazers in our party and our movement. They have opened doors and dedicated their lives to social, economic and racial justice.
Zanana was the first Black woman to serve as an MPP and cabinet minister in Ontario history. She raised social assistance rates, and her work led to the creation of Ontario’s Anti-Racism Secretariat and the province’s first binding employment equity legislation.
Laura Mae was the inaugural chair of the Ontario NDP’s Black Caucus, the first formal caucus of its kind in Ontario history. In this role and as the party’s anti-racism critic, she was a powerful advocate in addressing anti-Black and all forms of racism, including by introducing a groundbreaking Racial Equity in Education Systems Act.

2/ This Black History Month, let’s acknowledge and reflect on the work of leaders in our movement like Laura Mae Lindo, Zanana Akande and Jill Andrew, who have broken barriers and whose work embodies the words Rosemary Brown loved to quote: “until all of us are free, none of us are free”.
