Here we see a captain guiding the spaceship while his crew agrees in multiple languages. Then we see a cup of tea, and a woman having that tea with the man from the first page inside an apartment, with the sky as a background. '...and despite all it would take to take our hoe into the stars, I like to think that we would work together. But... even if we couldn't have any of that, if we were forced to consign our city and culture to oblicion... well... Simply having you here far surpasses any wonder I could ever imagine, for you are my home.'
Years ago I'd read that Gumroad was embracing AI or some such and I intended to close my account, which only included one self-published novella from 2013, which rarely sells any copies. But I had $4.50 in sales and you can't cash out until you hit $10. The book was set to pay-what-you-want and most people paid $0. The book is #cc0.
Now I'm getting solicitations from clearly AI-written emails for book promoters and someone with a questionable gmail address just downloaded a free copy. I'm kind of thinking of finally trying to close out that account to end the nonsense (the book is online elsewhere).
Does anyone have any thoughts? Is it worth just staying on there? If Gumroad is as ethically questionable as I recall, should I try to cash out?
If the latter option is the move, then I need presumably at least two people to buy a download of a weird indie novella released under #FreeCulture terms, for about $5 each. Any takers?
greytone digital drawing. Black and white pencil on grey. A woman, possibly blind, is sitting in a stone room. Around her read is wrapped som very long pieces of cloth that goes to the floor and along it to a well filled with water. On each side of her stand a person. To the left a man with a cape and a spear, to her right a woman holding a pendulum.
Digital drawing white on black. A creature is sitting in a tree watching a sort of aeroplane that is fused into the cliffs. In front of the aeroplane is a hovering light.
Hi friends! This is an account for the semi-monthly, indie comics #zine "Fodongo"! The goal of the zine is twofold: to support independent artists and to make Free-Culture.
A bunch of artists are commissioned to make 3-page (generally) black and white comics and release them under #freeculture licenses. These comics are published on our website:
Issues are put up for sale at the
@geesegoose store for $3CAD digitally, and the comics are released week by week on our site. Once all the comics in a given issue are out, the issue becomes buy-if-you-want!
50% of all revenue is redistributed amongst artists, forever.
Since the zine's beginning in 2023 there have been over 20 independent artists making over 60 comics, with a wide plethora of themes and genres, and always available for everyone to share and read as they'd like.
There are sweet romance stories, silly stories about D&D warriors, a lot of horror for some reason, a few series about dream countries and evasive cryptids... there is something for everyone in Fodongo!
So join us in reading some sweet sweet comics by incredible artists. Thanks for stopping by!
I need a support group for people as pissed off as I am at corporations like Apple for keeping as many people as they do from making the most of modern computing while extracting as much as possible from those people.
You played hooky from school so you could hide under your favorite spruce tree and read books under the branches.
Despite all the chastisement, yelling, threats, and punishments, you refused to ever reveal your secret hiding tree. You would not ever let anyone take that refuge from you. They had their libraries. You had your hidey-hole.
When the principal gave you detention you played hooky from detention to read another book under the tree. You got extra weekends of detention for that and for refusing to tell the adults where you were at.
No reading was allowed during detention. You knew that was evil horse pucky!
In this cartoon, a giant capitalist is controlling a puppet and sayng:
"At this point, 'Gen AI' is here to STAY. So, we might as well just, you know, accept it being PUSHED on us. It is progress, after all! We CAN'T stand in the way of progress, whatever the cost!!'.
The puppet is on a stage talking to a group of people that look like it, and hiding the capitalist behind a curtain.
