WTF people, just as a most basic principle of being an #Ally - when people are xyz culture/ethnicity or whatever and you are not - do not explain their culture, ethnicity, history or anything to them.
I've seen a few examples in recent comments that really boggle the mind. These are racist aggressions, very unhelpful.
No one has the bandwidth to school one by one every example of racist nonsense that comes along, maybe an ally can take that labor when they see it. #Native#Indigenous#BIPOC
What does a sustainable civilisation look like and how do we get there? A burgeoning movement of #artists and #activists is seeking answers.
by Joe Coroneo-Seaman, January 21, 2022
Excerpt: "The concept of solarpunk originally emerged in the late 2000s, when a handful of artists on the social media platform Tumblr began sharing drawings of futuristic green cities. Over time, the aesthetic and ethos evolved into a more robust vision for the world, and in the process has been embraced by other art forms. There are now published collections of solarpunk literature, subgenres of music, movements within architecture and even tabletop role-playing games [#RPGs].
"At the core of this vision is the idea that humans can coexist in harmony with the rest of nature. A solarpunk world is one where vast swathes of land have been returned to #wilderness, rooftop gardens dot the skylines of high-tech cities and vertical farms provide food to their residents.
"Increasingly, artists and writers in the solarpunk movement also describe a world that is just and safe for #MarginalisedGroups – especially those facing the brunt of the #climate and #ecological crisis today. '#BIPOC [#Black, #Indigenous and #PeopleOfColour] and #QueerPeople are safe in solarpunk futures,' says Brianna Castagnozzi, co-editor-in-chief of Solarpunk Magazine.
"Although it may seem utopian and idealistic, solarpunk attempts to answer real questions being asked more and more often in light of the unfolding climate and ecological crisis. What can be saved? What does a truly #sustainable civilisation look like? How do we get there?
"It may be a big ask, but it’s now clear that the scale of the environmental crises facing humanity demands #TransformationalChanges to the way we live, as well as the way we think. Art has the power to shape our attitudes, so perhaps it’s time – as Nigerian poet #BenOkri said recently – for artists of all kinds to 'dedicate our lives to nothing short of re-dreaming society'."
All kinds of people are valid and worthy, but #trans people, folks on the #autism spectrum, and #bipoc get a shout out right now because they need our support.
Black history is woven into the identity of the UK. The theme this year is 'Standing Firm in Power and Pride', focusing on the power of individuals in history who exercised courage, vision, and agency.
Breaking my social media silence to look for a #transgender#Japanese-to-English #translator who would be interested in #translating a rather famous #manga featuring transgender characters. I will help, but N1 or an equivalent level in #Japanese is a must. Writing experience is a big plus. Preference will be given to #Black, #Brown, or #Indigenous translators. Please send me a private message if you are interested or have questions. #BIPOC#translation
I haven't done one of these in a while, so here goes!
Hey #Women, #LGBTQ+ and #BIPoC folx! Are you an expert in something? Do you have a fancy degree or a lot of experience in some field/hobby? Do you like to infodump about it? Then out yourself in the replies below!
I'll start. Hi 👋 I'm Alice. I'm multi-queer (pan/bisexual and nonbinary). I'm an expert lockpicker and data scientist, and I have an education in computer science, psychology, and statistics.
Oh boy! #Seattle's #Police are asking the city council to give them millions of dollars to install hundreds of snitch cameras around #LGBTQ and #BIPoC communities. These don't deter crime, but they sure do deter people from feeling safe in their own neighborhoods.
If you can, please flood the city council's contact channels and tell them we don't want an authoritarian surveillance state—especially when the SPD has such a long history of misconduct, and the current administration will use it to terrorize minorities.

(A new account for teaching/research stuff).
I teach wildlife and GIS courses at a remote field campus (State University of New York - College of Environmental Science and Forestry) in the Adirondack Park.
Most of my research focuses on bat conservation, bioacoustics, occupancy modeling, spatial analyses...but also involved in collaborative projects with trail cameras, bird research, etc.
Love to connect with other BIPOC in science. #bats#wildlife#BIPOC#BioAcoustics#GIS
Please help keep
@SabiLewSounds & family safe from #ICE, cops and potential for death due to exposure.
Being without shelter has explicitly been stated under state law, following the #SCOTUS decision of Grant's Pass V Johnson, that it is illegal to be without shelter.
Further, it is illegal to own and operate a vehicle without valid licensure, registration and insurance.
Having invalid identification allows for increased likelihood of a dangerous encounter.
It sounds like a strange name for a band or the title of a campy 1980s tv episode, but for #BIPOC families in #poverty, it speaks of very real & present danger
Danger that didn't start with the election, nor in the past 10yrs
For some, action means #activism, for others it means upholding #communitycare, to ensure mutual survival
@JessTheUnstill
I challenge the assumption that everyone addressing social ills operates with a binary emotional switch of + Calm or - Outrage.
I know that is white people in general, and white women in specific, perceive all people not like them as constantly outraged and demanding equality, but that is simply not how real #BIPOC live life, and is more about your fear-based projections.
I need to write a proper post about this at some point, but for now, here's the short version:
If you're purportedly fighting racism on fedi, purportedly trying to make it a more diverse space, purportedly trying to make it a more welcoming space to people that aren't white, etc, stop assuming people that don't have their race plastered in all caps on their profile are white, k? :shiba_angry: (especially if you're a POC yourself)
Because you know what that is? White-washing, an example of the very racism we're trying to fight, and something that makes a space seem less diverse than it actually is :zerotwo_shrug:
The fact that it's used against POC to discredit what we have to say is just the cherry on top (and often even a wonderful example of lateral violence :cat_facepalm: )
p.s. Deflecting criticism from poc by insinuating they're not actually poc, that they're actually white, is included in this as well. Some people use this as their go-to defense, painting everyone who they don't agree with as 'white' or 'not poc enough'.

The other women's #RibbonSkirts ❤️
We all had a wonderful time at this 2 day #IndigenousLed ribbon skirt workshop. Everyone helped one another. Multiple new friendships were sparked. What a great way to connect & engage with fellow, local #POCwomen 🙌
Please consider supporting our local BIPOC womens community by donating or volunteering: http://www.sniwwoc.ca
Collage of 6 BIPOC women, wearing their ribbon skirts that they learned to make at the 2 day Indigenous led workshop. The first 2 women at top & all 3 on bottom are all women with Indigenous lineages. The Black woman on top, 3rd photo, is African, from Etitrea.
