There's a large group of folks who do not identify as disabled (despite experiencing symptoms consistent with disability and barriers consistent with ableism), often because of stigma and internalized ableism.rsc.org/policy-and-campaigning #DisabledAndSTEM #Chemistry @disability

"How our community recognises their disability

Data from RSC Member Survey 2022

Just 4% of our members self-identify as disabled people. 10% of our members, however, said they "experience barriers or limitations in their day-to-day activities relating to a form of disability, long-term health condition or impairment" - meaning that up to 10% of our members may meet the legal definition of disability."](https://ecoevo.social/system/media_attachments/files/115/104/890/347/686/828/original/9dd03c1a19ecd4fe.png)

"If I don’t raise at least $300,000 by June 30, the end of the fiscal year, we will almost certainly have to cease operations.

I’m writing to ask you to help us save the CDNC. We have created a page to collect donations: givecampus.com/campaigns/61710

Please give if you can. The future of the CDNC depends on it." @academicchatter

"Unfortunately, the news is worse than I expected. As several of you pointed out in emails to me, the CDNC funding line in the budget for next fiscal year has in fact NOT been removed. It turns out that our funding for the CURRENT fiscal year has been withheld. We are over $300,000 in deficit with only three months left in the fiscal year. Our friends at J. have written a nice summary of our plight: jweekly.com/2025/04/23/our-dig "

Conferences planned with creative accessible online options are more likely to have fallbacks ready when folks have trouble getting visas, or cannot take the risk of traveling to a given country, or just become ill and don't feel like traveling.

Make #accessibility a regular part of your planning from the very inception of the idea of having an event. #USpol #AcademicChatter #Ableism @academicchatter

@Ooze @plantscience @gardening I think the geology and chemistry people would be hurt you consider that plant science, heh!

There are some nice soil chemistry videos on this channel, but you would benefit from some basic chemistry knowledge as a base before viewing. youtube.com/@WWCCSoils #Botany

@ClimateJenny @plantscience @gardening Not at all. I'm just trying to see what people are interested in knowing. And I thought maybe getting folks to participate would help start to cohere the plant science/botany community here. #Botany

@academicchatter @plantscience

Ok, BSA, ASHS, ISHS, and rejoined the Agricultural History Society. aghistorysociety.org/

I'm already a lifetime member of another UC school's alumni association, back when that was more affordable, so I'm not sure about joining UC Davis'.

Wondering what other student discounty things I ought to be doing...

@plantscience "Join us for a six-part webinar series with experienced research botanist Dr. Jim Folsom. This crash course in basic botany for the beginner will take us on a journey from understanding plant anatomy and physiology to learning how plants are named and the botanical jargon that will demystify plant keys and identification. Dr. Folsom will contextualize it all in Florida native plant communities. "
