Huh Open AI is killing older models of chat GPT, which is controversial. I presume the controversial aspect is that these older models have been used in such a way as to make artificial doormat romantic partners, which is not very good

TBH no credit to Open AI, they should have put a stop to that kind of crap over a year ago, not now when the damage is already done

Don't see this as a net positive, because remember that Open AI wants to add a paid sex RP mode to Chat GPT. So they're only cutting out these models to monetise what made them so popular with the AI gf/bf types in the first place

Miguel O'Hara as Spiderman isn't quippy or funny like the other Spider-Persons because he doesn't have spider-sense. I'm being totally serious. His powers are constructed, not imbued, so he doesn't have the spidery-sense like the others.

What's that gotta do with being funny?

Well, this means Miguel needs to be locked TF in 100%. The others can be witty and quippy because the spider-sense helps them move instinctively, and thus takes off cognitive load while in the heat of action, which Miguel doesn't have the luxury of. Therefore there is cognitive room for the other Spideys to be more playful and they utilise that by being very funny.

This also explains why Miguel is a lot more physically direct and less flowery with his fighting and action style, because he HAS to use his strength as efficiently and effectively as possible.

(Ofc, Miguel has had a lot of terrible things happen to him, that takes a toll on a man, but I also still maintain that his lack of Spidey-sense also contributes on a purely baseline level)

I just finished reading "Misogyny: The World's Oldest Prejudice" (2006) by Jack Holland (RIP).

Misogyny is one of those prejudices that seems to be forever present and this book really is an intelligent and well-researched dive into the ancient, early, and contemporary history of misogynistic behaviour from men, women, and societies. What was stunning to read was that a lot of misogynistic commentary has rarely changed from the Greco-Roman periods, but also that early Christianity was a lot more pro-women than we give it credit for, which was then usurped by male hierarchy.

I think this book is an educational read, and Holland treats the topic with respect, sensitivity, and a rigorous look.

The history of misogyny is the history of civilisation, so deep-seated that it is. In his words "women's rights are human rights".

While he didn't touch upon trans women or transgender identity, you get the feeling from the way that Holland writes appreciably about the openness of gender identity and sexuality, that he would have supported trans rights.

BTW Holland died in 2004, and the manuscript for this book was the last thing he worked on — this was posthumously published with the assistance of his daughter

In the foreword to the book, Holland writes that when he explained this project to women, many responded with interest and curiosity; while some men responded the same, many others acted as if he was writing a book trying to justify misogyny, or that it was topic not worth writing about

Whenever someone writes about misogyny, there is always someone to prove why such writing is important

Do you capitalise or not capitalise the "x" in manga/anime names eg Hunter x Hunter, Spy X Family? :boost_request:

I personally leave it as lowercase as a holdover from ship names (eg Bella x Jacob), and in my eyes I see the same as articles in titles (eg "the", "if", etc)

In-depth discussions with my younger cousins about young people speak such as "chopped", "unc", and "6-7"

One of them kept asking me if I know these words one of the older ones is like "um of course Yaseen knows because Yaseen is cool", which is nice that I'm the cool older cousin

Then they expressed how annoying it is that random adults say "6-7" all the time, and I was like "even when I do it?"

Then the conclusion was that since I'm doing it to ragebait, that makes it slightly funny; what is annoying is when adults try to do it sincerely in some way to connect with them

I think that is a very amusing thing that no matter what happens, what stays the same is that a) it is really funny to ragebait teenagers by repeating their silly phrases at them and b) adults trying to genuinely connect with young people by repeating their silly phrases come off as unprofessional and cringe

My fellow Millennials and older will remember how the early Internet worked.

Since colour CRT monitors didn’t exist until 2003, the Internet was often in black and white. In addition, it was only on for about five hours per day. I personally would wear my best clothes when using the Internet because it was such a rare treat to do so.

The thing is that if someone else in your neighbourhood wanted to use some Internet, it was considered polite to let them use it after you had done.

Since there were only about ten or eleven websites online until 2006 you could get most of your Web browsing done in about an hour anyway.
