Yes. Because if I’m somehow in a situation where I’m dating again, I’m a single parent too.

thisisdee ,

So we should just not wear pants until however long it takes to happen?

thisisdee OP ,

Animal shelters are always keen to take old towels.

Oh that's a good tip! I have old towels that I now use for cleaning towels, but I'll check animal shelters near me as an alternative.

thisisdee OP ,

I rotate between 2 sets as well

Yes, only S1 was from the book. S2 and the finale/S3 is new material but Neil Gaiman said it was something he and Pratchett had planned/talked about. S3 was in development when Gaiman's allegations came out so instead of a full season to wrap it up they made it just 1 longer episode, which I think is unfortunate as I've loved the series.

Who is an artist or public figure you still enjoy despite them being cancelled for bad behaviour?

It's something I struggle with. Some bad news comes out about some public persona doing something shitty and they get cancelled. But sometimes I really struggle with giving up the things they've made because I like them. There are also occasions where the person has been accused of something and it doesn't seem true to me, or ...

Justin Timberlake. I’m in my mid 30s now so I don’t follow celebrity gossip as much as I did in my tween years but from what I’ve seen he didn’t do anything too bad? The DUI was really stupid but I thought that was mild compared to a lot of celebrities. Felt more like it was cool to hate him cos he’s been famous for a bit but no longer at the top. But I still think he’s a fantastic performer and some of the new songs are great.

thisisdee ,

At least online, this past year or two, maybe not fully cancelled but got a lot of hate. Since his last album/tour a lot of comments are saying that his success has only been by stepping on successful women. Things that get brought up a lot is the Superbowl "wardrobe malfunction" and people seem to think he threw Janet under the bus (which I don't think he did and his and Janet's relationship was fine), and also his relationship with Britney from 25+ years ago. Britney also released a book which probably didn't paint him in a good light.

thisisdee ,

Yeah that's one of the issues that keep getting him a lot of hate I think. But from my understanding their relationship was fine. IIRC Janet confirmed that she told him he could apologize for himself but not to say anything on her behalf, so that's what he did. But that was 20+ years ago so I might be misremembering.

I was in a car accident. On my way back to the office from lunch out and this woman made a left turn from the opposite side in front of me. I basically t-boned her at 50-55mph. We were both okay, just shocked, but our cars were blocking the intersection. She kept saying I was going too fast and that she was driving home from church. I just sat down on the sidewalk waiting for cops and tow truck to show up. Funny enough I remember, even though my car couldn’t go anywhere, I turned off the engine, got out, and still locked the car.

I had to hitch a ride with the tow truck to their office so I at least had some shelter (middle of summer with no shade around) and wait for a taxi to pick me up. The other woman had her husband pick her up.

The one time I got called a boomer online was because I didn’t understand why artists have “eras” now instead of just albums. I think at the time an artist removed all posts from their socials and the comments are “new era coming soon?” And I asked if that just means they’re dropping a new album

thisisdee ,

No idea. But it wasn’t Taylor Swift who I commented on. It was years ago now and I don’t remember who, but it was before the eras tour. I’m not sure when Taylor started using “eras” though

thisisdee ,

I think Matt Damon’s wife was a waitress or bartender? They met while she was working

thisisdee ,

No, but walkable places would probably have public transport access as well? If so I'd take the bus. I think I generally consider 15-20 minutes to be "walkable" if I need to go often (train/metro stations, grocery stores). For the occasional trips I'd consider 1 hour walk one way. Anything longer I would probably skip or find alternative ways to get there (including taxis/ride shares)

thisisdee Mod ,

This comment was reported but I didn't remove it because I think it's quite mild, but this line is unnecessary:

Alrighty then, stay losing and simping for overpriced trash I guess.

Please refrain from personal attacks.

Rescuers found the man stuck inside the middle portion of the slide in a crouched position — both head and feet first.

How do you even get into that position…

thisisdee ,

Would be nice to learn about other countries too.

I grew up in Indonesia and would like to know how much of what we were taught regarding the Dutch and Japanese occupations were actually true. I believe we weren’t even taught about the fact that the Dutch attempted to retake control after Japan’s surrender after WW2. What I remember we were taught was just WW2 happened and we fought for independence.

I visited the Netherlands last year and talked to some locals who said their history lessons around that was quite different than what I learned (how long were we occupied, how bad the situation was, and the battles that followed WW2)

I work from home and always tell my husband when I’m going out. He works from the office 1-2 days a week and is home other days. So depending on the day it’d take minutes or around dinner time. Although he’d probably text my phone and wait for hours before contacting others.

thisisdee ,

I think so because most of the time I need at least a carry-on on top of my personal item. Most budget airlines wouldn’t include carry-on, at least where I am. I’m also doing a light credit card churn for an airline points so at this point I won’t be saving that much going on a budget airline vs just using my points. You get better seats and better service.

Also had one bad experience on a budget airline that canceled and rescheduled a flight so many times that my husband and I lost 28 hours of our long weekend trip. Not worth the time wasted in my opinion.

Got drunk and hooked up with a married customer during an event. He said he didn’t know the customer was married (no wedding ring). It was my first job out of college and I learned from the sales team that it’s widely known at these events that people “forget” their wedding rings for this exact reason. I guess he wasn’t fired because it was consensual, but weird because customer and her husband were running a family business so technically both of them were our customers.

They might run away from fire in fear

I wouldn’t initiate or invite, but if I just happen to be in the same room with myself it would be fine. It would be mostly quiet and we do our own thing, or the occasional silly philosophical or metaphorical discussions but probably nothing real or deep. Or maybe it’ll be a free therapy session, having 2 brains figure out my emotions

Is moderately severe back pain really normal at 30?

I know it's a joke " oh haha you're 30, everything hurts now cuz you're so old!" But really, is something wrong with me or are backs just this stupid? Not overweight. Decently active although I don't exersize every single day. No genetic issues, doctor always says im in perfect health. But my lower back will randomly act up, ...

thisisdee ,

It also annoys me that my insurance groups chiro together with physio so people might think that they’re alternatives to each other. I had a colleague who said “physio just gives you exercises/homework while chiro fixes you on the spot”

Just started watching Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV. Not bad. Not amazing. Decent to watch with the hubby when we’re relaxing after dinner.

We’re also interested in Murderbot but want to wait until the whole season is available

Went to a pretty strict school with uniform/dresscode in Asia. One of the rules is we’re not allowed to dye our hair. One of my high school teachers was convinced that all Asians have black hair, so my hair that’s very slightly brown under sunlight cannot be natural. It’s so subtly brown that most people would say I have black hair. It’s just that he saw me under the sun with my friends who had blacker hair than me that he assumed I died my hair.

At first he gave me a written warning. I thought it was stupid so I ignored it. The next time I had his class, he pulled me aside and told me he was gonna send me home cos I still hadn’t dyed my hair back to black. I’d never really been in trouble at school so I didn’t even know what I was supposed to do. Since he was teaching a class, he sent me to the teachers lounge and find someone there and tell them I’m supposed to be sent home. Luckily the teacher I found there was someone who liked me and when I told her about the issue she just laughed and said that’s stupid. She let me hang out with her until the end of the period so I didn’t have to deal with the other teacher until she got a chance to talk to him.

My husband is on the “Donna is annoying” camp. Which is totally understandable especially since she basically screamed every line during her first appearance. He softened up on her later on cos she’s funny but still thinks she’s mostly annoying

I think Martha is underrated. She’s a doctor, actually brings knowledge/expertise, and still has the human compassion aspect that Rose and Donna rely on. Her only flaw is that she had a crush on the Doctor and he didn’t reciprocate.

thisisdee ,

I agree. It was a slog for me to finish his run. Capaldi was exciting in the beginning, had some great episodes, but still a bit rough. I think I just personally don’t like Moffat as a show runner.

thisisdee ,

I like 13 more than 11 and 12…

thisisdee ,

Just finished Andor today and have Rogue One up next. My husband and I aren’t Star Wars fans but that was enjoyable.

Not quite sure what to watch next but I think we have a few queued up on Apple TV+

thisisdee ,

I believe it’s true too that other people might notice first. I think it might be because we look at the mirror often, especially when working out, and don’t notice the small changes our body has gone through during the process. But when you see someone you haven’t seen in weeks, the difference is much more noticeable

In college, guy went to the bathroom, found a lighter in his pocket and started lighting toilet paper on fire while on the toilet. No idea how long he was in there but it was bad enough that the fire sprinklers went off and flooded the basement and first floor. The guy got kicked out of the dorm, but don’t know what else happened or how much it cost.

Do you have any recommendations for a good pair of earplugs?

thisisdee ,

Stitch has also infiltrated Marvel

There was also a Thunderbolts* poster or ad that was broken through by stitch but I couldn’t find where I saw that picture

thisisdee Mod ,

Yes, this breaks community rule (off-topic) but I'm gonna leave it up because it's funny. And judging by the upvotes/replies, seems like people are ok with it.

Should be on Disney+

Unfortunately video is not available in my country. Any quick recap?

thisisdee ,

I live in Australia but working remotely for a US tech company.

  • Unlimited PTO (company policy) that my boss encourages to take. If I take less than 4 weeks then I get paid (Australian policy)
  • Unlimited sick days
  • 16 weeks maternity leave at full pay (company policy), or 24 weeks at national minimum wage (~AUD 185/day) for Australian policy. Up to 12 months unpaid

I usually take 6-8 weeks a year of PTO and for maternity leave I’ll take the 16 weeks paid, and 8 extra weeks unpaid/minimum wage (depending on my spouse’s situation)

thisisdee ,

Yeah I thought it is doing well. Reviews have been pretty good and word of mouth seems to be decent as well. This is 100% a spoiler for those who haven’t watched it. I did think it’s quite soon from its release to them revealing it publicly like this though

thisisdee ,

Might wanna set your shelves to not allow rotten then. No point getting your pawns hauling them in if they’re already rotten upon death

thisisdee ,

Oh wow. I didn’t know it was this bad. I was planning to vote 1 for them cos they’re the only left minor party other than Greens where I am. I guess I have to rely on Greens and Labor instead.

thisisdee ,

Are you having any specific issues? Design is subjective and personally I don’t think I’m good at it either (I always just go with rectangular blocks everywhere).

One thing that I don’t think I’d do is putting foundation through the whole map. That’s a whole lot of money upfront. I’d just build sections that I need and leave the rest undeveloped.

thisisdee ,

Why do you think so?

thisisdee ,

Definitely ended strong. And that was way more gruesome than I expected (or even wanted tbh)

Can’t wait for season 2 and the Punisher special

thisisdee ,

Agree with Muse. I think that’s the most disappointing point in a strong season for me. Muse is an interesting and creepy villain, but his story ended so quickly

"While some choose to seek out the negative, I’ve always believed in focusing on the positive," Jones wrote. "I understand the impulse to address what might be seen as cultural insensitivity, but calling it a 'mistake' would dismiss the impact it had on countless people around the world who found inspiration and representation in TV’s first Black superhero — morphin’ into none other than the Black Power Ranger! It wasn’t a mistake; it was a milestone. It was an honor."

🙋‍♀️ grew up with a religious mother, went to church every Sunday, did bible study and got baptized as a teenager. Then I went to college and continued reading the Bible on my own. Without anyone else shaping/interpreting what I read, I quickly disagreed with the text. It was interesting to see how much the church’s interpretation can differ from your own when reading the same text

I was studying computer science then, and I’m working as a software engineer now, so probably just as expected. Probably thought I would have gotten married and had kids younger but otherwise life has been…boring
