I'm actually having a shower, just being too tired/unmotivated to do it at "normal" speed.

mts711 ,

I actually used to work in a solar & heat pump company.

YES it does attract a huge amount of scummy people on both sides.

Some comments have already answered on the side of sales, but it also attracts a lot of shitty clients.

How? A lot of people get greedy with free energy and/or homesteading/offgird wackos. Usually they're unable to pay the "normal" price so they chase down such scammy companies because the number they have offered fits their budget.

IMHO definitely an industry to avoid working in.

mts711 ,

Those formus were a bane of my existence, because their "technical explanations" were equally batshit crazy. (And of course none of those people was an actual engineer with knowledge in that field).

I think offgriders belong in the same crazy camp like healing crystals chicks, and antivaxxers.

mts711 ,

Grew up in rural Eastern Europe.

I have always been considered "eccentric" or a bit "odd". I made my peace with it and lived my life knowing that I'm not mentally ok.

After I emigrated to Germany and befriended new people, I realized that I have always been normal, I just didn't have hillbilly interests like everyone else around me.

mts711 ,

I feel you man, it must have been tough.

I'm happy for you that you got away from all that.

What do people gain from cruelty?

My general assumption for the lowest I can expect a person to behave is basically always looking for their own absolute gain, and any attitude towards other people comes secondary to that. So while a person living by this standard wouldn't donate to charity without some other motive, they would have basically the same answer to ...

mts711 ,

A feeling of power, a sense of pleasure by ruining it for someone. The reasons are many, and each more despicable than the other.

Went out with a skirt for the first time

Well, as the title said: I got the courage to finally go out with a skirt. Specifically i would meet up with a friend and his girlfriend in the next city, eat something and then go to the club. The worst part was, when I had to walk through my city wearing it, since Im absolutely paranoid, that anything about me being trans ...

mts711 ,

Awesome! That must have been a really huge step for you. I'm really happy for you!

mts711 ,

Looking up the information online (beyond just googling it in your native language).

i.e. Trying out the results in other search engines, when looking for the information about something in a foreign land, or something the specific nation is very good at; try using the local language (and use the online translators to search it and read it).

mts711 ,

Are more portable tbh. (Especially on the train)

mts711 ,

Both camps are right!

Cheap bikes just don't ride nowhere as nicely nor do they last as expensive bikes do.

BUT! The worst thing about owning an expensive bike is owning an expensive bike.

It's a thief magnet and source of envy of other riders.

You really need to find a sweet spot between a quality bike and being able to leave it locked in the city without having pangs of anxiety of it being stolen.

mts711 ,

Wow really cool. I really like the art style.

What software did you use?

mts711 ,

I've heard that Krita is an amazing drawing software.

What are your experiences with it?

mts711 ,

I actually won twice.

The first time was on a radio show and I won two tickets to see the first Ice Age film.

The second time was recently, I won a youtube giveaway, and I won a painting. The guy was asking so much for shipping that I stopped replying.

mts711 ,

Oh yeah. I loved rollerblading, sadly it ended for a same reason

mts711 ,

The entire cast of family guy.

Dwight Schrute in the office.

mts711 ,

Oh WOW what a great question!

In my case there are many games.

Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6,7,8,9; Zelda Link to the past, Stalker shadow of Chernobyl.

Some games truly are an experience to play. But more than anything else I want the feeling of childish carelessness I had while playing these games.

mts711 ,

Yes, dosens of times.

I grew up in eastern europe and things work differently there.

Oftentimes the cops would fish for bribes. Cops would pick you up on the street/stop you in traffic and search you/your car/whatever in hopes of finding something to hook onto and escalate the situation further and put you in a legally difficult situation.

Then they would generously offer that they can make it all go away if somebody from your family comes and brings X amount of money.

This didn't happen just to me, in most countries of the former eastern block that's just a fact of life.

mts711 ,

Personally no.

More and more I'm starting to believe that world cup is slowly loosing it's glare. Just like with the Olympics every new Championship will have weaker public interest than the last.

mts711 ,

As an expert in claiming to be an expert on the internet I can confidently say no

mts711 ,

🤣

mts711 ,

Really cool work! It reminds me a lot of The Incal

mts711 OP ,

You understand my current state of mind.

I just stopped believing in existence of deities and the existence of inherent meaning of life (not to mistake it with value of life).

The world is just a mess beyond our comprehension and we tend to attribute random events beyond our comprehension to the grand plan of things.

I do think that life is much more beautiful with the acceptance of atheism, mortality (no afterlife), personal and sexual freedom. I tend to just enjoy the moment and the life I have while I still have it knowing that this is it, this isn't a preparation for what comes next. This is it.

I'm still against mocking religion because I find it to be in poor taste, in the same vein like mocking someones gender, nationality, sexual orientation.

mts711 OP ,

Hahahahaha what a great answer!

You're absolutely right

mts711 ,

Peanut butter + Raw Carrots / Cucumbers / Apples / Bananas / Cottage Cheese / Pickles / Raisins / Raw Celery

Yes I absolutely love peanut butter and eat huge quantities of it.

mts711 ,

Oh wow this is really cool! I love it!

mts711 ,

Wow it's a real beauty

mts711 ,

Oh there are a lot of small things I had to give up because of rising costs of living. TBHany have been a positive change.

  1. Eating meat (yes, really)
  2. Impulse buying of all sorts

The whole situation has made me more intentional with my money, and I like that.

mts711 ,

I have always liked to eat fish more than meat.

After emigrating to Germany I have noticed that meat is really expensive here. Still I bought a piece of meat.

Once I bit into it I was so disgusted by the taste that in that moment I decided not to eat meat anymore.

For me personally it was a great change, amd I'm really loving the lifestyle. I have lost weight and I feel better.

I'm also aware that it might not feel the same for everyone given that I wasn't much of a meat fan from the start.

mts711 ,

That is a really noble reason to do so. Especially if you loved meat so much.

mts711 ,

Give and take by Adam Grant.

The book explains givers and takers and their stories in life and careers.

The problem is that all the stories about givers are about how they got screwed over and ended up not reaching their goals in life and not evolving their careers.

mts711 ,

Exactly!

mts711 ,

That's how I felt about it too

mts711 ,

I think that the Cross-post from the above perfectly sums um the situation.

The Watchmen were hugely influental to the comic books as a medium and an art form, plus having a decent movie definitely did help.

mts711 ,

I find FRIENDS to be unwatchable nowdays. I do understand that it was made for a different time and a different audience, but seen from todays perspective it's absolutely horrible.

I would say that Seinfield fits the same category as FREINDS, but not everyone will share my opinion.

mts711 ,

My point exactly!

mts711 ,

I switched to Proton too

mts711 ,

I'm in a very similar situation like you are. I too have started to be annoyed with the Big Tech products and the Internet in general.

I have switched to Lemmy, shut down my gmail account and opened a Proton Mail, and switched from using Google search engine to Qwant.

I too have switched to Linux Mint, and I'm loving it. TBH my IT colleauges talked me into buying refurbished Thinkpad laptop and told me to install Linux Mint. Boy am I glad I did that.

The next step for me is switching to Fairphone :D

mts711 ,

In my case the main reason is... removable battery.

This fair thing sounds like a gimmick to me too

mts711 ,

That's not what I meant by removable battery 😉

mts711 ,

MIne was from 2007. So not as old as yours. Yes, there are many things connected to it, but you can't imagine what a feeling of relief that is.
