Just merged a feature in Plasma 6.7 that might make you happy: a way to "unify" your mouse pointer and the tablet pointer. You may had to resort to other software to do this, but now it's built-in to your desktop environment ✅

In previous versions (or with this option off), your mouse cursor would start from the last position it was in - not caring where you had your stylus pen. This is useful for users whom switch between the two often 🖱️

Starting a new thread detailing 🧵 changes I recently made in KDE's NeoChat, which may inspire other users/clients/whatever... :BlobCat_Nerd:

For new features they will can appear in the next new major version (like 26.04), bugfixes are assumed to be backported as soon as possible with a few exceptions.

1/many to come

Yeah, I did it again! :BlobCat_OpenMouth: I submitted a XP-PEN Artist 24 Pro driver that should appear in 6.19, here's a short blog post about it:

Something I stumbled upon that's cool: https://isso-comments.de/docs/contributing/infrastructure/

The Isso comments system (that I use on my website) has a nice documentation page explaining who is in control of infrastructure, and who/what could be potentially affected by a bus crash. It would be cool to see this for more projects :sniffa:

she's done! 🟥

Looking for XP-PEN Artist 24 Pro users! I'm testing a quick/dumb change to see how closely related this model is to the XP-PEN Artist 22R Pro, by assuming it has the same interface. I don't expect it to work, but if you have this tablet, a USB stick and some free time please try this ISO! It's a live medium, no installation required.

FYI the next image update is going to be paused for a little while, but for a good reason: I have one on hand now

I made some really great progress yesterday, and now the pad and pen are initialized. The biggest bug I'm going to be tackling after work is how it "wraps" it's x value. I'm not sure if this is a descriptor problem, or something I have to implement yet.

IT WORKS NOW AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The long awaited final blog post in my XP-PEN Artist 22R Pro series 🖋️ It's the last one, because I have nothing left to do! The kernel driver is merging for 6.17 and it's fully configurable in the upcoming Plasma 6.5. I also discuss near the end some other exciting tablet-related announcements!

Here's a reminder that I'm giving a talk about artists & on the 7th at 2025 in Berlin! (It will also be livestreamed and recorded.)

So if you've enjoyed this blog series, that talk might be right up your alley!

@Venerabela @kde kde@lemmy.kde.social icon KDE The KDE Wayland session currently lacks a way to remap the touch wheel/ring (although they should be available to applications) but I plan on adding that soon, in addition to the cheaper scroll wheels seen on other tablets

Psst, here's a sneak peek at what's in store Plasma 6.3 for artists. Better UI/UX, pressure curve & limiting support, custom input areas, rebinding to tablet pen buttons and more!

Plasma 6.3 is planned to release early next year.

I also updated the upcoming features list on https://artonwayland.redstrate.com/

🖋️ My work in this month (July) contains the following ingredients:

Tablet pen calibration, binding tablet buttons to your mouse, making invites in NeoChat safer, SponsorBlock support in PlasmaTube. (Made in a factory that also processes peanuts 🥜)

I spent some time fixing up Tokodon, and figured I should continue working on PlasmaTube as well. Now it can play videos, albiet the UI still needs some work 😀

@davidrevoy @raghukamath , perhaps gsetwacom can be useful in your workflow to be a replacement of xsetwacom but in Wayland.

@raghukamath Unfortunately due to the nature of how the ecosystem works now, something that works across every DE is going to be hard. Not impossible, but I'm not aware of any cross-DE collaboration there.

Aleix was working on a KWin-compatible tool a couple of years ago, but stopped. Building something like a ksetwacom is possible though, but that I feel like focusing on the GUI bits are more important first 🙂
