Anybody have any games they really liked on a first play through and then fell out of love with it later on? I'm going through it right now with the city builder game Workers and Resources. I've got 26 hours in it on Steam. Most of those hours came years ago when I first tried the game. I had a good grasp of it then naturally ...
The Rainsdowne Players would take the crown for me. Everything in it seems to evoke a sense of tranquility and innocent silliness. Also on a specific detail, despite technically being a rhythm game, it feels pretty loose on that, adding to the more relaxing experience. Also being a sandbox game, it felt neither too cluttered or with activities too sparse or repetitive.
As a second place, which I recently started and finished, Overseer by thestoff. Gorgeous and exploration feels good right off the bat, and the game didn't really feel unfair, at most demanding patience and learning, which the game seems designed towards, nothing feeling cheap after a little while. Also finding a non-souls-like metroidvania is always a plus in this saturated market. =D
I'm giving up on Google. None of the projects I've been working on (spout2pw, obs-pwvideo, libfunnel) are searchable, you get everything except for the actual project sites/repos. I put up a landing page and it briefly ranked and then disappeared.
DuckDuckGo has no issues. I'm switching.
How badly do you have to screw up search to not be able to search for an open source project and get, you know, the actual home page, repository, or documentation for that project at least somewhere in the first page of results? This is not hard...
@lina Dunno if you follow him, but Louis Rossmann after much troubleshooting figured out his company site sunk in the Google results because it wasn't using LLM-made texts. Google as a search engine I don't use, but using Youtube directly a bit more and observing the sad state it is in, added to Louis' situation, it sounds as if Google running stuff to the ground is quite widespread.
Hello, I'm a new player of Souls-like games. My first game is Elden Ring, but some people say that it is difficult for new players. So, I'm looking for mods to make Elden Ring easier. Do you have any recommendations, or do I not need mods?
Slog through most of it, and underdelivered for what Ragnarök the myth is. Also apparently it must've been a trilogy, the Norse saga of GoW, but someone decided for cramming two games into one.
There are fewer instances afaik, so the chance of finding more permissive ones is much lower. If you can, I'd suggest to self-host a compatible instance.
Not ideal, but what I do is to set an account on some Mastodon service and follow @bsky[email protected] there. Also maybe I should investigate Wafrn, since apparently they have AT Protocol compatibility natively.

As stated, the game is a fully offline and single-player experience that will remain available to any existing owners after it has been delisted.
Digital versions of the 7-game compilation are available until April 1st on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Besides a woman's name, Ilya afaik is also the Russian word for a species of flower. But with the little I know of Russian, trying to approach the pronunciation to what I'd expect it to be, it sounds like the female form of Julius, Julia, if I was to pronounce by Norwegian logic, the language not being geographically too far ...
Dunno what the acronym PIE is, but going by the religious examples, vpol's comment makes me think, didn't a few names get from Hebrew to Latin through the Greeks?
Keeping it short, it was pretty good. Precision-platformer hard but good. It's also a metroidvania, and I made a review of it here (though mind spoilers): https://thebrainbin.org/m/defeat_the_backlog/t/1415043/Just-finished-Overseer-A-game-for-when-you-want-a ...
Thanks! Also if you'd want to play in your computer, the Playdate SDK comes with a tool for testing projects which works just as fine for playing them. =D
Also never seen one up close, but toucans in videos are amusing to see, due to awkwardly and stiffly showing affection, like they don't know how but are trying.
I'm an English teacher who wanted to "cut the cord" wherever I could, so I started learning about domain hosts, containerization, .yaml files, etc. ...
Linux initially, giving way for me to see that the best alternatives to me are generally the ones I control.
And considering geopolitics, where I can see how dangerous a well-positioned spy/saboteur/paid actor can be, my next self host project is some ActivityPub social media, at least as an one-user instance since I don't want to act as a company yet, so I have control of where I'm posting from too.
@Zak been hearing a lot of power metal and adjacent ones these past few years. Bands like Rhapsody of Fire, Nightwish, Sabaton and the sort usually build something in their songs, which had been something I also missed previously.
I remember when my opinion started souring about Discord was when someone mentioned the platform is the death of forums. It's been quite a few years now, but that sure stuck to my mind. Glad to see forums regaining space, specially publicly-browsable ones. =)
I use GrapheneOS with multiple profiles. My main profile contains only FOSS apps, along with two proprietary apps that have no network access. One secondary profile is for my personal Google account (just Gmail) for work and bills, while another is for a disposable Google account for apps like Google Maps when I need GPS. ...
Still depend somewhat, but aside from Google Meets, which I can use without account if I'm not hosting, I reasonably only need to log into it in devices and VMs that are usually turned off. So the least bad option, I think.
Hey everyone, with the new Discord changes, I decided it was a great excuse for me to finally try to ditch discord. So I just got a Moto Razr and am going to start setting it up. I've been outside of the android ecosystem for a long time. Can I get some recommendations for anything and everything? I recently read the Nova launcher has gotten much worse since I last used it. I'm also not sure if I should do a launcher or just use the base OS. ...
If you want to go for privacy, specifically through using a "vanilla" system (as close to the base Android as possible, at most with some FOSS apps), you'll lose some stuff, like most banking apps, since those usually require Google Services.
Also though the main app source for Android is Google's Play Store, you can find some useful stuff on places like F-Droid (for utilities from my experience) and Itchio (for games in my experience). There's some more places but they're usually much smaller or not as easy to sort by Android.
I have a bias that favours tinkering systems, so if you'd be curious about something different or if I use some jargon you don't know, please do point out.
For "sideloading", I don't have much of a preferred method, going mainly by what I can find that works.
But aside from the aforementioned Itchio and F-Droid, I also use git-based services like Github, game stores and Patreon-like sites if/when they have Android contents, through Aurora Store if the program is on Google Play only and either I paid for ir already or it's free, and some times I even download the apps directly from the Play Store from another device, generating an APK from it with an appropriate tool and moving to my main phone, which uses a vanilla system.
Also I back up everything I can, and test them in both my main phone while in airplane mode, and in a virtual machine running BlissOS 15 (Android ported to the x86 architecture).
Not much lore this time around, I couldn’t find a way to coherently make it work and seem realistic. This was inspired by a similar map I saw on Reddit’s r/imaginarymaps :3 ...
At worse, make your own "Fuck AI" community, or find some adjacent community in another instance. The fediverse's potential for redundancy is a godsent for when a community is problematic for whatever reason. No need to worry about enduring a given community because its name was already taken and is being run to the ground. =)
But if you must follow the community where you are banned, I second the suggestion of contacting the moderation team.

Unfamiliar with Battle.net, but the problem sounds like a case of DRM and the solution sounds like the installer tries to normalize launchers and you are able to leverage it.
If seen as a solution, it'll lead to disaster. If seen as a tool, then something good could come. But a tool being a tool, it's as good as the person using it. And there's the concern of it causing addiction similar to TikTok to be tackled if it is to be reliable, and not a dependence source.
