One of these days I'm buying a Linux phone.

One of these days.

noodle ,
@noodle@aus.social avatar

@joshua @Daojoan
I've tried both.

My government (AUS) effectively blocked my Linux phone (OG pinephone) from working when it shut down 3G and allowed the businesses running 4G/5G to only allow some phones. The Pinephone also had a bad camera and some apps don't have Linux equivalents, so you need to already be selfhosting a lot, and may need to change which businesses you interact with. Overall it was a struggle and I never replaced my 'main' phone. I'm considering trying again and using 2 phones if Graphene slips.

I'm now on GrapheneOS with most features turned on. Memory tagging breaks Teams, my bank's app, and my car's app - But memory tagging is optional. Only my car's manufacturer seemed to care about this. I was already changing banks, and not having Teams on my phone is a feature. Everything else is fine. Scopes is/was missing the ability to permit account access without giving full contact permission (an issue when restoring a WhatsApp backup). Google has started messing with their open source feed, see linked release note for one example. So currently it is 9/10 strongly recommended, but over the next few years Google may continue turning screws on the dev team.

i've been working on a list of the fundamental archetypes of video-games. literature is primarily concerned with men causing drama, so all works of literature can concisely be boiled down to a man opposing something. video-games on the other hand are primarily concerned with our instinctual desires for interaction, so our archetypes are fundamentally different.

so far i've got:

  1. make a little doll

  2. make nest for doll

  3. protect doll

  4. fruit

  5. climb

  6. block puzzles

  7. follow deer

    I'm curious to hear what others are ! Here's my current setup:

    Hardware & OS

    Infrastructure & Networking

    Security & Monitoring

    Authentication & Identity Management

    • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
    • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!

    Productivity & Personal Tools

    Notifications & Development Workflow

    • Notifications via: (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail ()
    • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension.

    Accessibility Focus ♿️🖥️

    Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (), so I prioritize services usable without sight (, ). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

    I've also experimented with:

    • Ollama (): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
    • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

    I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here ()—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

    What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?
