How to password protect folders and open them in Windows Mac or Linux?

I know I could and should encrypt whole drives but I want another layer of protect specific folders when my devices are unlocked, a password. I want the folders to behave like regular folders where I can add or remove files as usual, without a clunky UX like password protected zips. I looked it up and didn't find any ...

@silverwizard@convenient.email avatar silverwizard Thanks for the hint, maybe, but I didn't get any high cpu load warning from monitoring. The database seems responsive during this error messages but the website went error 500.

I restarted Friendica and MariaDB containers because I don't know better (same host).

I will watch for cpu load and how actually mariadb respond to some hand made queries next time. Until now this happened only 1 time since 3 or 4 month running my instance anyway.

JimmyMcGill I don’t buy Nintendo exclusives, and very very few AAA games. It doesn’t matter.
Does the steam deck works flawlessly every single time? Is is a no brainer switch on and play console ?
My switch is docked 90% of the time, is the steam deck as good as a 90% TV console…?
I am not convinced, not saying steam deck is worse than switch, I just don’t know anybody with a steam deck around me.

m33 ,
@m33@theprancingpony.in avatar

JimmyMcGill Not that I want one, I already have a switch for the last 10 years.
It’s a small device, silent, that fits well next to the Tv.
Can play silly games with the child, and play my own games during the 10 minutes free time I get every two moon eclipse 🙄

    Ephera OpenSUSE is first to come to mind, then probably Mageia + OpenMandriva (Mandrake derivatives).
    All these EU opensource initiatives looks really good, but I fear that they may just be trying to pump taxpayer money and produce actually nothing usable.

    @m33@theprancingpony.in avatar m33 , to Linux Mint

    Unexpected benefit of Linux Mint relative slowness following Ubuntu releases, as they like to keep a safe pace and make things working right before releasing new versions : it aligns with enterprise software surprisingly well.

    Enterprise software are even slower to update, meaning the network shared printer drivers, corporate Zero trust client, email server connector, antivirus (as in paid, licenced av agent) does works perfectly.

    Mint sits right in a sweet spot about both corporate bloatware and OSS.

    @Sunshine@lemmy.ca avatar Sunshine It works pretty much like in FB. First you subscribe to a group, then you "post to the group" instead of sending simple messages.

    I use Friendica group feature to follow Lemmy groups (this is how I got Rimu's message and this reply).

    The point is, "native" friendica groups are not so common right now, the only big friendica groups I know are friendica's helpers, admin, devs groups. So, pretty much about friendica itself. You can find friendica native group directory here : dir.friendica.social/group

    To have more, friendica groups one has to create groups and grow a community, people have to go there instead of FB, Reddit, Lemmy similar groups.

    It's not a design flaw, friendica groups is just another offering for a federated platform group use case. The incentive to use native groups is all about developing a community around a particular topic, not much about the underlying technology I guess.
