    What happened in that minute before the NSW police officer pushed the man in white? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-02-11/-white-shirt-man-town-hall-protests-punched-new-video/106332094

    @level98@mastodon.social avatar

    @Qldaah IMO, more disturbing was the video of police punching the man already pinned on the ground.

    My brother, a long time ago, was a UK police officer. We had conversations about how difficult it can be to restrain / arrest someone, with minimal force, who's resisting.

    However, punching someone (particularly already pinned) was never an aspect of it - that's simple thuggery / a beating / retribution / officer lost their shit etc.

    Similar-ish here. IMO, they first go to beat him, not arrest.

    Trump has now set a deadline for Thursday next week, where he demands Ukraine signs an agreement to meet Putin’s demands:

    — No NATO membership
    — A reduction of its military to just 600,000 troops
    — Accepting the loss of Donetsk, Luhansk, Crimea, and most of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia
    — Forcing Ukrainian elections within 100 days

    While Russia will
    — Reenter the G8
    — Have all sanctions lifted

    This is not a peace agreement. This is capitulation.

    Christianity in much of America has lost its true meaning and teachings.

    ALT
    level98 ,
    @level98@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgetakei "Making stuff up" is intrinsic to religion and you can't be US President without being religious. USians are so steeped in religious twaddle that Trump making stuff up is just another chapter in a lot of making stuff up.

    Trump relies on that. He's essentially a religion to those who follow him.

    Historically, Christianity's never particularly been characterised by being kind to others etc. Sure, many Christians do, but it's not particularly correlated with being Christian.

    Even if I had a time machine, and even if I could bring this picture back to 2015 — even then, I could not explain to anyone that in the future, a convicted felon would become president of the USA, and he would invite wanted war criminal Vladimir Putin to Alaska to debate the future for our ally Ukraine — WITHOUT Ukraine present.

    A few might believe I was from the future, but NO ONE would believe the picture of these two criminals in front of Air Force One was real.

    SOS 💔

    3 months ago I wrote the post in picture 1 asking if anyone could help me translate a phrase into English, and asked if @HarriettMB could help.

    This has turned up on Bluesky where the post is incorrectly linking to Harriett's profile, as if I am some creep talking smack about her.

    Surprised, Harriett has asked me about this, but I have been away from my phone, and now she has blocked me.

    Could someone please help clear this up?

    Update: Harriett has unblocked me and we are handling it.

    level98 ,
    @level98@mastodon.social avatar

    @randahl @kevbob Issue seems related to Harriet's profile/bio appearing on BlueSky and past doxxing that Harriet's experienced.

    In Harriet's post, there are comments attempting to explain & let Harriet know about your post/explanation. There are also those who've immediately jumped to "outrage" and/or jumping on those trying to explain - I can both understand such behaviour due to terrible experiences... and know people who've had such experiences and are still accepting of genuine mistakes.

    @level98@mastodon.social avatar level98 , to random

    As an outsider, it's surreal to see many USians seemingly only now discovering dystopian aspects of their society because it's affecting a larger proportion - before, many could ignore it.

    Elsewhere we spend time continually fighting against even pre-Trump type USian stuff becoming more pervasive.

    e.g. guns, universal health care, incarceration rates, workers rights, racism, tipping etc. etc.

    I was going to tag as USPol but it's, unfortunately, of far wider relevance.

    It's been a big night. I'm glad the angry spud got banished.

    The fact is though, the reason we dodged another political nightmare was because of the one unfolding in America.

    The current ALP is a massive disappointment. The current LNP is something far worse again. Albo talks a big game, but does he deliver?

    level98 ,
    @level98@mastodon.social avatar

    @ewen But a majority did vote for climate action over climate denial, both in terms of Labor but also independents. Even the LNP had to keep their criticism of renewables etc. relatively muted. And their attempt to derail them through their impractical nuclear proposals were rejected.

    There's hope... though I feel weird briefly playing the optimist, as I often feel pretty depressed about the lack of sufficient action.
