Stack Overflow is down... I didn't notice, as it's the weekend. But even if it were a workday, most devs now use LLMs. They get very few new questions, too. Overall, I feel like it's just a matter of time before SO goes to /dev/null. Effectively, AI summarization by Google and LLM tools killed it just like rest of the web. It is sad situation.

Yeah, that was in mid-March 2024. In February I wrote about how it had been almost a year since Mozilla said it was going to kick Onerep to the curb and stop offering it as part of their Mozilla Monitor Plus service.

Well today Mozilla announced that it is finally "winding down" its partnership with Onerep by winding down Monitor Plus.

@georgetakei as any bad science fiction series (like the new battelstar galactica) production costs are an issue.
So the new star trek has a plot with tribbles taking over the world. At some point the teibbles mutated to be more human like. This avoided all the cost of making the puppets and wiggle them around.
One of those tribbles is US president.
Many thought this was so unrealistic that the popularity of the series tanked.

Shitty cheap geiger counter failure mode - I put it near a test source and it warning beeps at 0.5uSv/h

If the batteries are near flat, when it beeps the screen will dull a little. Whatever electrical chaos that does causes it to think it's detected MORE counts, so it just accelerates.

Smashing АЗ-5 here.

A flickery video of a geiger counter climbing up and peaking at its highest reading of 99.99uSV/h after being placed near a test source that took it over 0.5uSV/h, upon where it warning beeps and then proceeds to accelerate and make me think I'm about to die.

Google has all the advanced quantum technology and algorithms, yet it still won't use them to fix YouTube comment spam. They will probably use it for surveillance and Ads targeting, tho. The talk about science and curing cancer is just press releases. Sad reality.

@nixCraft they use it to auto translate titles and dub videos with artificial voices from a language I understand.
AND I CANNOT SWITCH IT OFF!
Chrome browser has a popup "never translate this language". But youtube does not, because youtube is from a complete different company. They are unable to even have that idea.

@MostlyHarmless you can also do that when not hitting the car. Then the owner will search forever for the damage.
Especially useful on cars parked on cycle path.

The Macintosh System 7 was the first W I D E S C R E E N Macintosh.

@EUCommission hey, what are you going to do about Nintendo? They have a charging dock for the Switch2, and no other charging dock works. Only theirs.
And this because Nintendo was too lazy to implement the standard and just made it work with their stuff.

Dosbian is a free and opensource Linux distro for the Raspberry Pi that is designed to create a retro PC environment to run older games and apps from DOS era. It boots directly into DOSBox, a popular MS DOS emulator, allowing you to run classic DOS games and software including Win 3.1/95/98 etc. It is based on Debian. This is a good way to enjoy your older games or apps collection again or introduce your kids to older games that was part of your life once.

@lowqualityfacts an LLM can surely analyse the picture and generate 1000 words of gibberish by consuming tons of water and electricity and making the world a worse place to live.

The English alphabet originally had 2 letters, and a Q could be used to make the sound of G, 5, N, and 2.
