I would argue that the defining characteristic of an authoritarian system is the elimination of freedom of the press. This is the issue that I will be watching the most, as an indicator of where things stand.

@coppercrush 1. Loved them since childhood, spending retirement wandering the landscape looking at them. I'm so far down the road that I think of them as individuals, with inherent worth and autonomy 2. Complexity. You can spend forever and never get to the bottom of it. 3. Lead with informal (outdoors if at all possible), follow up with formal. Hard to learn plants without being with the actual plant. 4. For me native plants ARE the main topic. Their adaptability and resilience are 1/2

@coppercrush ... comforting and inspiring. 5. Apps are okay if considered a well-informed opinion that requires additional confirmation. Question every app ID. Write down why it's right or wrong. 6. Ugh, depends. Grasses? Maybe two. Several similar plants with a couple of distinguishing characteristics? Maybe five or six. Depends on how confident you want to be with the ID. 2/2
