US sanctions turn International Criminal Court judge’s daily life into a nightmare

French ICC Judge Nicolas Guillou is living a nightmare after the US sanctioned him and other judges for issuing an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, once again exposing the risk of Europeans' reliance on American services.

Not to distract from this justified outrage, but in the background, the EU is preparing to share (or are already sharing?) personal data of EU citizens with this US.

Including biometrics. And via the DHS, no less.

The same DHS, and especially their "border and immigration control" elements, which have been identified by US civil rights organisations as the most unrestrained and dangerous government organisation in the US?

Yes, it sucks if we can't use US services.

But it sucks even more if the same US can target us individually and at scale, because they know literally everything about us.

From the detailed Personally Identifiable Information (PII) our government voluntarily shared.

There is a really simple and non-violent way to rid ourselves of billionaires.

You see, a billionaire is not a person.

Because “billionaire” does not describe an intrinsic trait of a person.

There is wealth, valued at billions of (most often) dollars. And there is a person who controls that wealth. Because we allow it.

Take the control away, and the billionaire is gone.

✨Poof!✨

🪄 Like magic, You are now left with billions to redistribute amongst the people, and one person (or group of persons) you probably should offer some publicly funded treatment for one or more mental disorders.🌈

It really is that simple.

But yeah: “it is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of capitalism.”

They had me at the headline: AI isn’t replacing jobs. AI spending is

"From Amazon to General Motors to Booz Allen Hamilton, layoffs are being announced and blamed on AI. Amazon said it would cut 14,000 corporate jobs. United Parcel Service (UPS) said it had reduced its management workforce by about 14,000 positions over the past 22 months. And Target said it would cut 1,800 corporate roles. Some academic economists have also chimed in: The St. Louis Federal Reserve found a (weak) correlation between theoretical AI exposure and actual AI adoption in 12 occupational categories."

"Yet we remain skeptical of the claim that AI is responsible for these layoffs. A recent MIT Media Lab study found that 95% of generative AI pilot business projects were failing. Another survey by Atlassian concluded that 96% of businesses “have not seen dramatic improvements in organizational efficiency, innovation, or work quality.” Still another study found that 40% of the business people surveyed have received “AI slop” at work in the last month and that it takes nearly two hours, on average, to fix each instance of slop. In addition, they “no longer trust their AI-enabled peers, find them less creative, and find them less intelligent or capable.”

All the feckless scheming by the Democrats isn't going to unseat the Orange Tyrant in the White House. It's going to take mass public demonstrations, extended work stoppages/strikes, govt shutdowns, and sustained and viral boycotts of companies that bent the knee for profit or because they have spineless leaders.

Not saying it's going to be easy, but violent resistance is not the answer, as the Cheetoh-in-Chief would like nothing more than that. Nonviolent resistance works, and has a long history of unseating despotic leaders.

From today's NYT:

"President Trump demanded on Saturday that his attorney general move quickly to prosecute figures he considers his enemies, the latest blow to the Justice Department’s tradition of independence."

“We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility,” Mr. Trump wrote in a social media post addressed to “Pam,” meaning Attorney General Pam Bondi. “They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”

Mr. Trump named James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director; Senator Adam B. Schiff, Democrat of California; and Letitia James, the New York attorney general, saying he was reading about how they were “all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done.”

"Asked later by reporters about his message for Ms. Bondi, Mr. Trump said, “They have to act. They have to act fast.”

@briankrebs there is, of course, already a lot of violence and political murder happening in the US. But not jet in similar amounts towards MAGA and the orange emperor*.

But yeah, as a final non-violent action, a general strike is a good idea.

The last time i suggested that on here, a lot of USians pushed back. In summary, they said they “couldn’t afford” it.

Yes, resistance is made harder by a lot of people living pay check to pay check. Poor people can’t afford to complain. That’s the whole idea.

But in other times and in other countries, people under even worse circumstances made the choice to strike nonetheless.**
