I try my hand at stuff that interests me regardless of how well I can do it, a full believer in taking journeys to solve the nagging questions in my head.

Dabble with designing and making prototype boardgames, programming, music and digital art. Currently working on a project (still embryonic) combining some of the above with my interests in pre-history and the ironage.

Game in my downtime - I've just set up a Peertube account as I've been posting a lot of Valheim stuff and have plans:

For people looking for mutal follows - I'll follow back as long as you have something on your bio.

I've been avoiding posting on certain topics because as far as the goes people are pretty clued up.

Others are just beginning to grasp to the reality. If you are thinking it's a question of weathering 4 rough years, I'll just leave this here:

Mussolini was in power for 21 years.
Hilter for 12.
Franco for 39.

They didn't leave when their welcome wore out, they just made it illegal to talk about them leaving.

Mark could speak up. He could take a stand. He could use even a fraction of his power to defend the institutions and principles he once claimed to cherish.

Instead, he cringes. He capitulates. He collaborates.

This man is a coward. And no amount of corporate jargon or performative masculinity can make that stain go away.

@Daojoan
We're talking about a man whose first endevour involved hacking into his university admissions datatbase and stealing people's data, specifically women which he then used in a webpage inviting visitors to vote on their "hotness", for which he got censured but not charged for illegal behaviour.

Still at university, his second endevour, involved stealing the idea and concept of a social yearbook website from the people who had hired him to code their version, which he sandbagged so his version would be first to go visible, a feat which also involved using stolen log-in info to gain admin access to his paying client's server to delete user accounts (the fallout from this dogged him for years as the people he fucked over pursued him legally and he eventually settelled the cause for millions). The heat generated by his actions landed him on the radar of the university paper journalists whom he tried to make force to sign NDAs before talking to them and later hacked into their server to see what they wrote.

Recognise a pattern - obtaining and using userdata without permission in dubious and/or illegal ways. Cambridge Analytica. Setting up shell VPN companies to get at encrypted userdata. Shadow accounts ... I could go on.

He has made a career out of being a nasty little shit of a human with problems recognising boundaries, end of. He'd probably find the article hoping to shame him into being decent, funny.

665.4 million liters is 540 acre-feet. Per year.

For the last 40 years, the Tagus-Segura Water Transfer has diverted up to 530,000 acre-feet per year from just downstream of Talavera de la Reina to the Segura basin, where 86% of it is used for irrigation of crops.

Twenty times more water is sent 300 miles away just to irrigate Segura golf courses than this Meta headquarters will allegedly use.

By going to a new physical space you revert to infant-like watch-and-learn behaviour. Every detail will jump out at you as your brain starts assessing the new environment. While in that state you will be more receptive to new ideas. "Travel broadens the mind", as all your senses are heightened while your brain goes into overdrive to make sense of where you are. Coming into contact with artistic ideas or philosophies in this state will leave deep emotive imprints in your memory. This new influx of information combined with having to deal with deeply held convictions or habits that hinder in the new environment are what cause people to broaden their horizons, and it takes longer than a week. Or two.

So exactly none of the above is describing short-stay Tourism. Short-stay Tourism is not a voyage of discovery, self or otherwise, it's changing the backdrop to your daily habits and dramas, and dealing with the minimal problems arising from conflicts with your entrenched routines, including beliefs. Any unresolved conflicts will be put on hold until the end of the holiday when you can get back to "normalcy". This is why most of the aspirational packaging of "pamper spa glamping weekends away" is just empty posturing. The only benefits are freeing up headspace from random clutter, something you can do by taking the time to go for a walk.

Does anyone know if it's possible to reuse media? I don't want to burden the server by adding what is already there.

I know I can copy the link to a media file, but then it doesn't have a preview. Is there a way to achieve this? For instance, replying with an already present .png file so people can immediately see it instead of see just a link to the file?

    @FediTips Maybe?

I'm on a Sharkey instance which has media features usable with fixed "pages" (think long-form/ blog posts) and posts like this.
I can get to media I've used either by looking at a tab in my account for my posts containing media content or via a dedicated image library for my account, called "Drive" in the UI. I can upload or pull media from an url and store it in the Drive.

Ahh yes. Entirely unprovoked attack. England totally weren't the Somali pirates of their age. And there totally aren't serious university papers trying to establish the gold they robbed had nothing to do with the subsequent rise of England as a sea power. It was all manifest destiny. Obvs.

I thought I was going to be working on my monograph and various academic tasks the whole day. But the vibe at work was very much "school's out!" and everyone was busy with practice for our Faculty games. Since I am on Team Karrom, I immediately started playing Karrom with another colleague. My first game in 41 years. But I was bested by younger colleague who was playing for the first time. No matter! I still managed to get my white discs in the pockets which is a miracle!

Attached is a picture of the Karrom board. Summary rules of the game in the alt text.

yes they ran the spring along a pipe to the road in the 19th century, but the name gives away the story. Rather than being just a simple 19th century public well which just happened to be on church land - the original church was built to Chrisitianise an existing water source of renown.

Why not just enable instance moderators to mark some of their existing lists as "starter packs" and offer them to newly registered users for automatic follow + list import at once? (Without need to save and import CSV manually...)

so, if I understand you correctly, you're essentially asking "why not give new joiners a curated list of accounts to follow?"

If so then you are at the point of asking to create an algorithm and most of us are here because of "the algorithm" elsewhere.

we're in the give a fish and teach a how to fish realms here. Better to teach people how to use the means in front of them.

    • fill in your profile page
    • your timeline is made up by who you follow.
    • follow in abundance
    • if you start seeing posts that don't interest you - unfollow
    • like and boost posts you enjoy or think others might enjoy
    • use to make your posts findable by people not following you
    • If you have accounts you think other people should know about post them with the tag on Fridays.

I think the issue is with users coming from an algorithm based platform. From new it took me about a week to fill up my Social timeline, up until that point I was lurking Local and General.

I still go into General to see if there is anything interesting out there.
