@killyourfm I'm still wondering: why not have both, a public forum that's also accessible through a client that has chatrooms and voice channels for that community built-in?

It's all web tech anyway, literally nothing is stopping anyone from implementing things this way. We can have our cake and eat it too. How did we end up in this mess, with Discord enshittified but no properly working, comprehensive alternative (which isn't "go back to have 5 different apps").

You don't necessarily need to say "image of" in your alt text for users to know it's an image. Screen readers will announce that it's an image. But it can help readers to specify if it's a hand-drawn image, Polaroid, infographic, screenshot, chart, map, diagram, or so on.

@A11yAwareness A "short guide to alt text" would be awesome. There are a lot of details to optimize it which people who write it probably don't know since many never even heard a screenreader. Small things like, when transcribing captions or tags, to use camel case instead of all caps since most screen readers (apparently) can read one properly but would spell out each individual letter with the other. Although I might got that wrong myself, I once saw someone mention something close to this… 😅

@T_X KeepassXC has integrated Copilot into their repo, the team uses it themselves to code for them (as seen in PRs on the repo) and they accept LLM PRs. They also fool themselves and others about it not being a bad idea, see here:

    @vkc Do people really compare it to email in a general way? I mean, if one asks how those usernames work it's a good answer to describe that specific thing to aleviate confusion and build a logical bridge for further explanations about instances and how the federation thingy is structured from the perspective of a user. But that's really just to create a first level of understanding you can then build upon with further explanations.

    The Fedi is too different to be "just like" anything.

    @gamingonlinux I really wish there was a mod to change the flat, boring graphics of the game to be more semi-realistic. Think Rollercoaster Tycoon but with modern tech… would probably just require textures & bumpmaps.

    The gameplay is awesome, but the cutsey artstyle is just too simplified with too little for the imagination… meanwhile Planet Coaster is way too convoluted. 🫥

    It's hard for me to imagine how there can even be enough money made through a single "normal-priced" app (<10€) to allow even a single developer to live from it. In general those big numbers companies keep throwing around feel utterly illogical for me; I am accustomed to live off of a few hundred euros per month though (as well as presents by family 🙃).
    Like, where does all the money even come from? I'm probably too damaged by poverty to even imagine anything but everyone being in crushing debt.

    @dbat I should might add this is a contextual post since I try to bring myself to finally work more on an app that I hope might be able to pull me out of poverty (if I'm able to have a release version when Flathub finishes the payment backend - betting on Desktop Linux user counts steadily rising). However I can't bring myself to be more optimistic, both due to depression as well as… well… the news, our rigged capitalistic economy and all that.
