This morning I found out someone broke into my car and stole some low value junk I had in my glovebox along with a jacket and other stuff. I was home all along and didn't hear it happening. I am usually one to check twice that the car locks when I leave it, and if for whatever reason I don't then it auto locks after a while. ...
That sounds pretty much what happened. I don't leave anything in my car I would cry over. I have a nomadic life so I can't really afford to not leave anything behind, most things have a purpose in the car (screwdrivers, my cheap OBDii, the sunscreen cream, rags for cleaning, rain gear in case the rain catches me on the go)The only thing that would have been a nightmare if stolen would be the electronic toll tag, but they didn't grab that one. But what really got me thinking is that the alarm didn't go off.
Seriously? Where would you have me park instead? Compulsory ownership of lockable garage everywhere I go? Btw this happened in a driveway, they have the light sensors, and the neighborhood isn't particularly rough. It's not my home though, I'm just visiting.
That could be the explanation, as I said I typically check twice but when I parked last time I wasn't feeling well. Perhaps I forgot. I can't remember. What I don't believe is that proximity to the key prevents the autolock. I'm pretty sure it has locked itself even with me standing right next to it, as well as inside.
I have a ok laptop but its not the greatest, i want to have something such as a creative outlet that i can do in a simple manner? Ive thought about many of things but im unsure if i should try them? Im stuck inside alot and im bored alot aswell. I just want something to do other than light gaming and watching youtube. ...
The first thing that comes to mind is everything Studio Ghibli. They are mostly great films, and have no sequels or remakes yet and I hope it stays that way.
I'm sure there has to be live action examples but I can't think of any right now.
The technology is remarkable, the implementation is lame, the impact is happening too fast for us to adapt, the damage to artists and creatives is to cry for.
Someone posted a meme yesterday comparing it to The One Ring from LOTR and I think it's spot on.

Depends on how many balls fit in the glass, and whether you can see through the balls- if not, as long as all the balls against the glass surface and on top are blue, with a few more blue visible within the gaps should be enough. But what percentage that is could change according to ball size in relation to glass size.

What makes it worse is the language barrier... cuz I've been using English since 8 and its my primary lanfuage, and my mom sounds awkward af in English and she won't understand complex topics... ...
What do I talk about with family.... We are few, but we have our niche interests.
Small talk about work and how's things going, health, anything of note you've done recently like watching a show or visiting somewhere etc. That goes with everyone as a filler I guess.
Mom will ramble about politics and all her friends and family. I occasionally ask about some of her relatives if I remember, and yes, her relatives are also mine but I don't have much of a relationship with these people like she does. So yes it's more about listening. She also likes to talk about her plants and the birds in the backyard.
Dad doesn't need much input. Occasionally I'll have a tech question for him that he will answer or not depending on how much he can be bothered. If it's him opening conversation, it's probably going to be on either a tech or politics news topic. He may or may not want to show off his latest tinkering project. He's more like the average Lemmy user, only he's not a Lemmy user.
Sister has a more intense work life and topics will include work, food, finances, her friends, occasionally popular culture (movies, games). Great listener for whenever I have anxiety over something, or when I just need someone to explain me the normal way of doing things for normal people.
- - - This is a one panel comic - - - A young boy is lying on the road, badly hurt and with his tongue twisted in the spokes of a bike. Not far away, the rider sits on the ground, bleeding from the face. The boy’s younger sister says: MOMMY SAID WE SHOULD NEVER LICK THE SPOKES OF PASSING BIKES!
Your appreciation of sweeping under the rug for handsome people is true, however, not the only outcome therefore I disagree that beautiful always wins. I've seen beautiful lose just as much.
I don't love any movie I consider terrible, but I do enjoy some parts of movies I consider terrible.
I have a love hate relationship with Michael Bay Transformers. Love the character designs, the flashy action scenes, but I absolutely abhor the plot (yeah if you can call it a plot).
Both, we know AI cannot create anything new, hence the churning of slop decelerates any potential progress or pivots. Why innovate or find new meanings if there is no pressure for you to come up with new stuff? AI does it for you from what's already there.

When they get withdrawals, even if mild. Some people get a bit cranky if they don't get their daily fix (and yes, it has to be a daily habit). That's evidence for me of an unhealthy dependence.
Of course, if they always have alcohol available it's going to be difficult to see the withdrawal and it's also difficult to draw the line because not all people tolerate it in the same way.
Okay the key here is what you mean by "constantly". Telling a story about something so life changing once a year hardly goes as "constantly" in my books.
What may come across as manipulative is you mentioning she's trying to get you to do as she says or trying to get guilt or compassion from you. And this with a pinch of salt, because it's very hard to tell from what you share here. I would have to become a fly on your wall for a long time to have my own opinion about it.
You tell me she's telling you this every week and making reference to it every day, several times a day, and now that's what I consider "constantly". That she hardly has anything else to share about her past or that she somehow finds a way to spin everything to a framework of scarred pregnancy mother, or similar.
My own mother has told me about her pregnancies several times a year, I heard her stories so many times. Hundreds. Yet that was never the only story she had, and it was always brought up more or less naturally in conversation. The same happened with several other favorite anecdotes of her own past and me and my sister's childhood. I would consider this aspect to be normal.
I never felt manipulated by her retelling of a story though. And I know she could manipulate pretty well. She also had a few topics she would constantly harass me about, yes, daily or nearly to a point. But retelling the past was not part of it, even though she did frequently.
