Just out of curiosity: if you edit a post to add a hashtag, does the edited post then get pushed to users who subscribe to the hashtag?

@FediTips @Miro_Collas As Miro says, thank you for testing this.

Quite a few times I've seen people reply to posters suggesting that they add hashtags to their original post to better reach certain communities. I've always had a nagging feeling that it wouldn't work, but it's nice to know that it does. 👍

AI slop is so useful and desirable that Google and Microsoft have to spend shit tons of money to have "influencers" shill for it:
https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/06/google-microsoft-pay-creators-500000-and-more-to-promote-ai.html

Remember when "influencers" were shilling for NFTs? That was fun and ended well for everyone involved, proving NFTs are actually useful. 🤡

No glutes were harmed in the making of tonights spaghetti carbonara. Or animals, or pea proteins. Instead I used Rummo pasta (derived from rice, corn and potato starch), smoked tofu pieces fried then finished in the air fryer until dehydrated and crispy, and a sauce blended from soaked cashews, silken tofu, kala namak salt, pepper, garlic powder, nutritional yeast and some oat milk, finished with parsley. It is extremely good.

One thing that Fedi has taught me, it's that it's OK to think some of your own posts are funny and to boost them. Or maybe not and this is insane and I'm the only person doing it and should be locked up and studied. 👍

I have very mixed feelings about any institution - even those I broadly agree in - using their presence on Fedi exclusively for PR or fundraising. That model of 'broadcast only' (or let's be honest, advertising) doesn't feel right to me in this community. Interested to know what other people think.

GlasWolf ,
@GlasWolf@mastodon.scot avatar

@TheBreadmonkey It doesn't bother me, because unlike other platforms they can't pay to have their posts shoved into my timeline. Which is a big reason why there are no major brands here, of course.

Pub update. Cheeky chappy (loud) has exclaimed loudly that I look like a teacher. Like I'm in fuckn Withnail and I. So I say thank you. And this opened the doors for a series of questions about my life. Which I have tried to respond to in good faith and good cheer. I've then had to shake everyone's hands and learn their names and now I'm in the gang. All I wanted was a pint.

The plot thickens on the proscription of Palestine Action;

at short notice the judge originally intended to preside over the judicial review (starting tomorrow) has been replaced by a 3 Judge panel.

Now the key issue is why the change, and what impact that will (and perhaps was intended to) have on the conduct of the review & the conclusions reached.

This looks on the surface of it to be suspect, but much will depend on the conduct of the Review.

The use of AI (and associated technologies is a threat to universities):

It 'threatens to deskill precisely those people who are essential for society to function. What value, after all, is there in automating art, thinking, or reading – especially in educational & academic settings? None. On the contrary, automation of knowledge & culture by private companies is a worrying prospect – conjuring dystopian & outright fascistic scenarios'!

We need to step back...

@ChrisMayLA6 I was reading this and thinking the anti-AI arguments were somewhat similar to the old calculator debate, where people worried that students would use new-fangled calculators all the time and lose the ability to do arithmetic. Maybe they've even been proved right, to some degree.

But imagine how that debate might have gone if calculators only gave correct answers half the time.

The Govt. has decided the proscription of Palestine Action hasn't done enough to burnish their anti-democratic credentials & now is looking to restrict repeated protests at specific locations if communities feel threatened by such protests;

you don't need to be particularly paranoid to see how this will be (almost immediately) miss-used if it enters into force in anything like the form Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood seems to envisage.

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us avatar ChrisMayLA6 , to random

When Jack Straw pushed through the Terrorism Act in 1999, under which Palestine Action have been proscribed, he noted in the House that:

'The Bill does not focus on demonstrations, which are a normal activity in a democracy. I wholly defend people's right to go in for peaceful protest'.

Seemingly, the Govt. is ignoring that commitment (such as it was).

I just don’t know what to write anymore. Israel is committing genocide with the full support of our countries in the West.

What do I say to my friends in Palestine who don’t know if they’re going to survive the night? That we are morally vacuous? That we are horrible human beings? That we’ve lost any semblance of humanity we might have had? That we deserve their eternal wrath?

What do you say about societies that, far from failing to prevent genocide, support and profit from it?

Zionists love to ask you if their genocidal project deserves to exist. They’re not asking a broad enough question. Does a system that cannot even prevent genocide deserve to exist? What is the purpose of us if we are to exist shackled to the bloody whims of the worst of humanity?

GlasWolf ,
@GlasWolf@mastodon.scot avatar

@aral And why do we keep electing the worst of humanity to rule over us in the first place? It feels very much like a stitch-up.

"The government is looking [like] such idiots,” said Deborah Hinton, a former magistrate. “I mean when people say, ‘What’s your status?’, and then I say, ‘Well, I’m on bail for terrorism’, they look at me as if the situation is farcical. I think they [ministers] are making themselves look an absolute joke.”

    Dear "concerned liberals," a word if I may - as you're watching the overwhelming public response to defend English communities from fascist rioters, please pay close attention:

    When a metric fuckton of antifascists and antiracists show up, and the fash don't? The end result is hugs and a street party.

    When violent fascist mobs show up, and community defenders don't, the end result is fear, violence, and arson.

    Please consider this the next time you insist "both sides" are to blame.
