@pluralistic , we spoke Saturday about whether the French translation is closer to 'merde' or to 'chier' (pardon).

The way I see it, enshittification is more of a dark alchemy, so it has little to do with the act, and everything to do with the result.

Therefore

➡️ Emmerdification

But soft! French also has

➡️ Démerder

which is to be resourceful!
So there is hope yet!

A very opinionated article about the inevitability of , but I didn’t see anything factually incorrect in it. The gasoline car market peaked way back in 2016 while the market set a new record last month (albeit because of US incentives expiring). Legacy manufacturers like GM aimed to transition to solely EVs while lobbying the government to back off pollution restrictions and efficiency requirements. It’s been quite a ride, but the present administration is swimming against the tide of the global market and empowering China, while leaving us isolated and increasingly irrelevant. @ZeKik @sgt1372 @vinc @vwdasher @DenOfEarth @MarkBrigham @richardknott https://www.autoevolution.com/news/at-the-crossroads-between-ice-present-and-ev-future-legacy-carmakers-chose-irrelevance-258245.html

Surprisingly when we were in Paris last year there were a lot of Mirai hydrogen taxis around, presumably subsidized by the government or the Olympic Games as a contribution to carbon whatnot. I am going to also presume that they had adequate refueling facilities purely on the basis that if they hadn't, French taxi drivers would have been vocal about it.

And while I think many people think hydrogen is still made by cleanly splitting water using hydrolysis, much of it is actually made using natural gas, so it's another form of greenwashing.

Not surprisingly, hydrogen converted back and forth to ammonia is gaining popularity in the ocean shipping world, for similar reasons.

For another clear hint that has already begun to affect EVs, look no further than the charging station conundrum.

Wanna buy gas? You're good with cash, credit, bank card, Apple pay, you name it.

Wanna charge your EV? Welcome to any number of mutually incompatible charging networks, each requiring you create an account and pre-load it with funds, load the app on your phone, order a card in the mail...

Who do you wanna bet is behind this turnpike cluster fuck?

Studies have found the most logical and fastest keyboard layout is not between key orders like qwerty and dvorak, but one that prioritises the size of keys depending on the frequency of those letters in the language being typed, regardless of the ordering.

This Apple keyboard has an English layout. More frequently used letters in english are larger and slightly taller, less used letters are smaller and lower, which conveniently prevents tyops.,

I remember reading a story I can no longer find from someone who was looking for an Apple cable while traveling, and the ones they found were surprisingly cheap but all of them said you needed to have Bluetooth on, which made no sense for a cable.

    Well.

It turns out the Apple licensing fee for their proprietary connector costs more than a Bluetooth chip, so these cables all had USB at one end and a Bluetooth chip embedded in the wire, with a dummy Apple plug that wasn't wired!

    2. Setting timers/alarms
    3. Echos notifications from my phone.
    4. Bonus: Is round.

A few years back I got a Skagen hybrid watches. There is no digital display, only mechanical hands. But the inset dial can be programmed to do various things such as count steps or show which of four possible sources a notification just came in, etc. And it has alarms. Unfortunately it's not rechargeable and relies on pill batteries which I got fed up changing every 4 months or so. But I liked the elegant design.
