A systems thinker. I see systems everywhere and the connectedness of everything. I'm fascinated by them, especially the systems of the natural world and our connections with it. This is both interesting and scary. Have been described as an "intuitive visionary", but now discover I'm an "otrovert". Not qualified to call myself an expert in anything, but I like to think I know stuff. Anti-oligarchy, pro-spaceship Earth. Interests: #Science, #sustainability, #equity #democracy #Linux #otrovert

I did not realize Australian culture and Danish culture was so different. This article describes a decades long swim wear war in Australia with all kinds of initiatives to make Australians hide their bodies with more clothes in the summer.

Meanwhile in Denmark we can literally lay stark naked on the beach and no one even raises an eyebrow.

@randahl Same situation here in New Zealand. I think the Danish attitude is far more healthy.

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 with the understanding it would only be released after her death. In it, she discusses blasting Trump and Musk deep into space and shares the message, "Don't lose hope"

@joyousjoyness I just watched the whole video. Unusual for me, and difficult to admit, but I actually cried.

Laser printer carcasses at the Burbank Recycle Center

A shrink-wrapped shipping pallet of dead laser-printers.

@DenOfEarth @fringd @wb2ifs @pluralistic 25 years ago I was a printer technician. One of my favourite printers was the LaserJet III. I have seen one that had printed over 1.3 million pages and after servicing, probably could have gone on to print the same again. They come from an era when things were designed to be maintained, rather than thrown away at the first issue.

@pluralistic and I bet with nearly every one of them, there is only one thing wrong that could be fixed by replacing one component. Or just a good internal clean used to work wonders.

Arctic Norway in January.

I'm sitting down by the log fire after two weeks of shooting in the far north. I have a folder with 1TB of RAW files to rummage through. Might take a while :)

This image was taken in Grovfjord, a real hidden gem that sits half way between Senja and Lofoten. Most people think of January as one of the dark winter months, but there is just enough light to bring the colours too :)

@ewen I don't understand how this works, but I see your video fine when I click the link you provide to photog.social (which I don't have credentials for - I'm on mastodon.nz). Maybe the issue is with the mastodon.nz instance?

We're not Generation Y or Generation Z, Millennials or Gen X. We're not isolated cohorts, disconnected from those who came before or after.

We're all part of one long, unbroken chain of human experience.

    We're simply human.

@Daojoan I so much agree with this! Yes, we are all individually somewhere on various "continuums" or "spectrums". Labelling is all too often used as a tool to bunch people together in a certain cohort so they can be negatively branded and treated in a generalised and dehumanizing manner with disregard for the individual.
This applies whether we are talking about generational, social, financial, medical, psychological, political or educational situation.

Whoopsies! "Free speech absolutist" "accidentally" suspends the accounts of journalists who are critical of him, and people whose political views he disagrees with.

He seems to have quite the habit of firing or banning people he disagrees with, doesn't he?

    Via Gizmodo:

"X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, purged an unknown number of prominent accounts over the last 24 hours with little to no explanation, and then restored the accounts minutes after this article was published.

"The list includes popular accounts belonging to journalists, writers, and podcasters. Among them are Ken Klippenstein of the Intercept, writer and podcaster Rob Rousseau, Texas Observer correspondent Steven Monacelli, the account for TrueAnon, a left-wing politics and news podcast, and a number of others.

"One thing the accounts have in common is recent criticisms of the Israeli government.

    ...

"Musk, who calls himself a “free speech absolutist” has previously said no one should be banned from X unless they break the law.

"Update, 1:12 p.m.: Shortly after this article was published, Musk responded to a question about the issue from far-right influencer Jackson Hinkle. Musk promised to investigate, and the accounts went back up soon after. Musk later blamed the “mistake” on X’s spam algorithms. The Hamas account is still suspended."

@dannym Including me. Depending on how “free speech” is defined. The statement “I think the moon is made of bread dough” is ok. “The moon is made of bread dough” is not ok.
