The #Jenin Refugee Camp was established by persons coming from Haifa and whereabouts, who fled or were expelled by Zionist forces during and in the aftermath of the 1948 Palestine War.
The camp has since become a stronghold of militants. It was the location of several occupation incidents, most notably the 2002 entry by the Israel military, and the 2022 killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. It remains the site of frequent clashes between Israeli forces & the residents. 🧵

In the West Bank, since January 2025, state forces have displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians from Jenin, Tulkarem and Nur Shams, while bulldozers continue to transform refugee camps into militarised zones.
Amjad #Iraqi explains why Palestinians identify with Khader #Adnan, a prisoner who died on hunger strike, for his struggle against #israel#prisons.
"Those trying to undermine public anger over the hunger striker's death don't want to talk about the violent carceral regime that he struggled against."
#Prison for “internal enemies”:
"Administrative detention, long weaponized against Palestinians under occupation, is gradually being directed toward those with citizenship too."
In August 2024, NGO B'tselem published a report on what it calls 'torture camps':
“B’Tselem collected testimonies from 55 Palestinians held during that time and released, almost all with no charges. Their testimonies reveal the outcomes of the rushed transformation of more than a dozen Israeli prison facilities, military and civilian, into a network of camps dedicated to the abuse of inmates as a matter of policy. Facilities in which every inmate is deliberately subjected to harsh, relentless pain and suffering operate as de-facto torture camps.

#UNICEF: “This year has been the deadliest year on record for children in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with conflict-related violence reaching unprecedented levels.
“83 children have been killed in the past twelve weeks – more than double the number of children killed in all of 2022, amid increased military and law enforcement operations. More than 576 have been injured and others have reportedly been detained. Furthermore, the West Bank has been heavily affected by movement and access restrictions."
