Things that remain centerstage today in the #marginalization of so many
There's a long history of #segregation and #uglylaws, on and on, to keep those who don't conform with expected norms from having an affect on the lulled masses
Somehow a young white tech bro found my profile and requested to follow me. I vet every follower and so I was immediately sceptical when I saw a non-critical toot with a picture of Trump.
Obviously I straight up hit them with "what do you think about Trump and Musk?".
I kid you not, their answer was: "Why should I think about them?"
The irony of them "follow request"ing me mere minutes after tooting this:
And this goes out to my marginalized homies: just because we have been on the receiving end of the stick more often than not doesn't mean that we can't be the one who occasionally does the beating.
Don't be so arrogant to assume you're above that, or you inevitably become part of someone else's problem.
For me, #2025 will be "The Year of the Marginalized." (Or the Margins.)
It won't be perfect, but essentially I'm going for 80% of the media I consume is written / directed / created by or starring people from marginalized populations. Music is impacted too, though likely by creating marginalized-centric playlists and listening to those.
If the name seems familiar, it echoes 1992 in the US after the election which was called "The Year of the Woman."
I'm definitely up for suggestions, though of course no guarantees.
The contrast--the majority--is to me for purposes of this, white, straight, male, US or England since they have an inordinate amount of influence over everything. And marginalized is basically everyone else. (FYI, I am white, male-presenting and in the US.)
To be clear, it's not to remove the majority, just to find more balance in what I consume.
