In other news, I managed to convince my wife, my sister and brother -in-law to install #Linux in their machines due to the #windows 10 thing, instead of buying a computer (there's no money for that!).
Got #elementaryOS in one and #linuxmint in the other two. There were kinda blown away that both OSes were essentially the same, just different desktops.
I let them play around both in live USB before choosing.
Installations were according to their previous sensibilities in their favorites OSes.

Inzwischen habe ich #LinuxMint auf einem USB-Stick. Live sieht das gut aus, aber ich habe keine Lust, immer mein sehr langes WLAN-Passwort eintippen zu müssen.
Jetzt habe ich gelesen, dass man dafür z.B. mit gparted auf dem Stick eine Partition als persistenten Speicher einrichten muss.

Call it a "Starter Linux" all you want, but I just fucking love how well Mint works.
And the great thing is, when there IS a problem, there is so much documentation out there, that it shouldn't take you long to solve it.
If you're a Windows or a Mac user and you've been considering making the jump to Linux, try out Mint. You can run it from a thumb drive and take it for a spin without even installing it.

@laptoprevive al? Als je nog een oude notebook hebt waar je niks meer mee doet, dan kan het zomaar zijn dat een student deze nog prima kan gebruiken!
Hoe werkt het? Vrijwilligers nemen de notebook in ontvangst, beoordelen het apparaat op geschiktheid en zetten er #Linux op (#LinuxMint). Ze testen of het systeem goed werkt en overhandigen hem dan aan de volgende eigenaar.

Linux ist bestimmt cool. Als Windowsnutzer würde ich mir eine fertiges Paket wünschen, das mir eine Oberfläche zaubert, die im wesentlichen so funktioniert wie unter Windows gewohnt. Um den Übergang zu erleichtern, mit Office.
Ich verstehe die ständig wiederkehrende Frage nach einem möglichst #Windowsähnlichen#Linux nicht.
Gerade die User die sehr wenig technische Expertise haben, erkennen den Unterschied zwischen #Windows und vielen #linuxdistributionen doch gar nicht. Bzw. höchstens an der Optik.
Egal ob #cinnamon#XFCE oder #KDE. Sehr viele Desktops haben ein Bedienkonzept das nicht weiter von Windows weg ist. Als verschiedene Windows-Versionen von einander.
Ich hab schon Leuten #linuxmint installiert, die gar nicht bemerkt haben dass das kein Windows ist.
#LinuxMint ist für viele "Gelegenheitsnutzer", die vorrangig Browser, Mail und Office nutzen, ein sehr gutes "Drop-In-Replacement".
Die Bedienkonzepte sind genau wie unter Windows, und die "Welcome"-Applikation, die standardmäßig bei jedem Login gestartet wird, nimmt Neulinge direkt an die Hand (von sowas können Windows-Nutzer nur träumen 😄).
This toot is being sent from old HP SFF #desktop now running #LinuxMint which was too slow and laggy for #Windows (TBH its sometimes only slightly less laggy even with 8GB RAM and an I7 CPU, maybe as its still running a spinning rust hard drive?)
Photo is not the PC but a newer one I installed last week at another office, I just wanted something from #Dropbox (originally taken on the #lumixG100 and transferred to my Windows laptop) to test if the cloud sync was working as expected
#Firefox will even play full HD video from #Youtube without problems, although it does sometimes seem to eat resources (almost like there is a memory leak?)
Also managed to install #Edge and succesfully work on #MS365 documents, so this is looking promising as a backup office PC
Interestingly #Edge is way faster than #Firefox on this #Linux PC, and comfortably works with multiple tabs + #MS365 apps, this seems like it would actually be usable for a non-technical user (eg if someone needs a quiet place away from the main office, or training sessions where we need an extra PC)

Petite satisfaction dominicale : avoir changé d'OS sur mon antique PC perso (un vieux Medion de bureau acheté en 2010 sous Windows 7).... apres l'avoir fait sur tout un parc de pc portables pour le boulot.

Déprogrammons l'obsolescence de Microsoft et reprenons le controle de nos bécanes !

Windows musings:
A 10 y.o. laptop I have had Win10 installed.
Tried nuking it when installing BlissOS (#android), but I think not all was removed.
A day later, it wouldn't start up, and checking the BIOS, only once it recognized Android, most other times only Windows' recovery appeared, and once neither did though can't that reproduce again.
Using the live mode from #linuxmint, I see all Android files there, intact.
Sound like the little that lingered of #windows ate my own system of choice =D
Don't know if you did this already but you've got to make sure the Windows features Secure Boot and Fast Start are turned off before installing another OS

Tous les ministères ou services publics sont concernés sauf la Gendarmerie Nationale qui depuis plus de 10 ans a choisi d’utiliser #Linux.
Changez de PC (dixit Microsoft).

Moin, ich habe jetzt alle Daten von meinem #Windows-PC gesichert und möchte #LinuxMint installieren. Bisher hatte ich das #Betriebssystem auf einer #SSD, und die Benutzerdaten auf einer #HDD. Ich möchte das unter Linux beibehalten.
